KEY GAME INFORMATION
PHILADELPHIA: GUARDS: MICHAEL CARTER-WILLIAMS wasn't the most legit Rookie of the Year, but he had his moments. He should be a little more efficient in his second season, and Philly certainly doesn't have a better alternative at the point. A shoulder injury will likely keep him sidelined for the first three weeks of the upcoming season . . . TONY WROTEN makes some highlight-reel plays and will likely start at the 2. He's too erratic to be in the rotation for a playoff team . . . As for the rest of the backcourt, ELLIOT WILLIAMS is looking to revive his career, and he's no worse than James Anderson and Hollis Thompson, who were starting for this team last season . . . Injuries have all but ended JASON RICHARDSON's career. He's on the final year of his deal, and might not play in 2014-15 after suffering a stress fracture to his right foot in late October . . . ALEXEY SHVED could play some quality minutes at both guard spots for this team. FORWARDS: The 2014 draft was deep, allowing Philly to land a first-round value in second-rounder K.J. McDANIELS. He's certainly better than anyone the Sixers trotted out at the 3-spot last season . . . HOLLIS THOMPSON could keep a starting job warm again . . . Another second-rounder, JERAMI GRANT, could play his way into the rotation. He's talented, but he's also something of a 'tweener, and like most Syracuse guys sitting in a 2-3 zone, Grant never learned how to e-on-one defense . . . ARNETT MOULTRIE has been something of a problem child in Philly, but he's good enough to make this rotation if he turns it around effort-wise . . . LUC RICHARD MBAH a MOUTE is here as a mentor for Joel Embiid. CENTERS: NERLENS NOEL is ready to make his debut. His collegiate rates suggest he'll rebound and block shots. The question marks are durability, functional strength and offensive game. He'll get to learn on the fly . . . JOEL EMBIID's foot problems will keep him out until at least midseason, and the Sixers will certainly play it safe with him. On raw talent, he's a future star. The questions are durability, and whether he can co-exist with Noel.
MIAMI: GUARDS: He's a shell of his former self, but the Heat will have to squeeze more regular-season minutes out of DWYANE WADE. His effectiveness could depend on whether or not he finally develops a three-point shot . . . The point guard situation is getting muddied, but the Heat dug deep to re-sign MARIO CHALMERS. He'll top the PG depth chart again . . . NORRIS COLE is likely too small and too erratic to ever be a starter, but he'll continue to play solid minutes with the second unit . . . The Heat seemed to grab SHABAZZ NAPIER on draft night because he's a LeBron James favorite. Now that James is gone, the rookie could be the odd man out in the point guard rotation. He'll have to overcome subpar measurables. FORWARDS: LUOL DENG is most certainly not LeBron James, and he won't fill anything resembling James' new role. He does give them a strong role player, a defensive stopper and secondary scorer . . . JOSH McROBERTS will facilitate the offense at times and generally serve as a floor-spacing, stretch-4. Miami is built to go small with him and Chris Bosh up front . . . DANNY GRANGER is trying to reinvent himself after an injury-filled couple of seasons. He can play both forward spots and might fit best as a stretch-4 in head coach Erik Spoelstra's system . . . UDONIS HASLEM is essentially a mascot during the regular season . . . JAMES ENNIS could break into the rotation later this season. He was tremendous in Summer League play. CENTERS: CHRIS BOSH is the best player on this team by a significant margin. He'll be the focal point of the offense most nights and should flirt with the 20-10 numbers he used to put up in Toronto . . . CHRIS ANDERSEN will often pair with Bosh in the frontcourt, taking some of the defensive heat off Bosh against bigger lineups.

Because of this information, no power rating or computer score edges are posted for this game.

*76ers-Heat Preview* ====================

By JORDAN GARRETSON STATS Writer

Philadelphia (3-23) at Miami (13-15), 7:30 p.m. EDT

The Miami Heat were finally able to end their home slide despite a depleted roster.

Another home contest against the Philadelphia 76ers could prove to be peskier than expected, given Philadelphia's recent road play and Chris Bosh being out again.

Miami seeks consecutive home wins for the first time since the beginning of the season Tuesday night against Philadelphia.

The Heat (13-15) snapped a five-game home losing streak with Sunday's 100-84 win over Boston. They had dropped three by 17-plus points during the skid, which was their longest at home since a seven-game slide from March 5-21, 2008.

They're 5-9 at home after losing nine home games in 2013-14 and entering the season with an NBA-best 97 home wins since 2011-12.

"We needed a home win bad," said Mario Chalmers, who had 11 points and 10 assists for his fourth double-double. He had two double-doubles in his previous six seasons.

Miami was without its top two scorers in Bosh and Dwyane Wade. Bosh, averaging 21.6 points per game, missed a fifth straight game with a strained left calf and has been ruled out, while Wade (22.8 ppg) sat out due to a bruised right knee after playing 12 straight.

Luol Deng helped compensate with 23 points and four other players in addition to Chalmers scored at least 10. Miami's bench, led by a season-high 16 points by James Ennis, had 33 points.

"Everybody stepped up," Chalmers said. "I think we had six people in double-digits. That's what we need from everybody, each and every game."

The Heat are already stretched thin offensively even when Bosh and Wade do play, ranking near the bottom of the league with 94.5 points per game. They could need another well-rounded performance Tuesday with Wade's status unclear.

"We just figured that it would be best to give (Wade) a little bit more rest," coach Erik Spoelstra said. "We'll evaluate him (Monday) and see how he feels."

Spoelstra continues to juggle multiple lineups given those absences as well as Josh McRoberts', who has missed seven games and could be out the rest of the season with a torn lateral meniscus. He has used 13 different starting lineup combinations, including a new one in each of the last four games.

"Now it's like, 'This is what it is, this is what our season is,'" Spoelstra said. "Let's focus on the guys who are available and not feel sorry for ourselves. I like seeing that our guys are coming together."

Philadelphia (3-23) owns the league's worst record but has been competitive on the road lately, winning three of its last five. Michael Carter-Williams scored 21 in Sunday's 96-88 win at Orlando to open a seven-game trip.

Carter-Williams has averaged 20.3 points and 10.0 assists in the 76ers' three victories.

"It's always great to win, but when you don't win that much, it's even better," Carter-Williams said. "I'm not sure what it is. When we're struggling on the road, it's a little easier for us to come back together because everyone is against us. All we have is each other."

The 76ers allow 97.3 points per game on the road compared to 108.5 at home, where they're 0-14.

Bosh had 30 points while Chalmers added 20 in Miami's 114-96 win at Philadelphia on Nov. 1.

The Heat had won 10 straight home games in the series prior to a 100-87 loss on April 16, a contest both Bosh and LeBron James sat out.
