KEY GAME INFORMATION
BOSTON: GUARDS: RAJON RONDO's name is etched on the trading block. Regardless of where he lands, his injured knee should be 100 percent healthy . . . With an improved three-point shot, AVERY BRADLEY has become a complete player. His defense guarantees minutes regardless . . . MARCUS SMART seems to be waiting in the wings for a Rondo trade. In the meantime, he'll back up both guard spots. Just like in college, he'll be brilliant at times, but inconsistent . . . Local product PHIL PRESSEY will stick around as a No. 3 point guard . . . EVAN TURNER was a disaster in Indy. He'll have a tough time making this rotation . . . MARCUS THORNTON was acquired as a trade throw-in. The Celtics don't have big plans for the remorseless gunner. FORWARDS: He's isn't a legitimate No. 1 option, but JEFF GREEN will be the go-to guy again. He hasn't been able to handle the extra defensive attention, becoming increasingly inefficient . . . He has plenty of limitations on both ends of the court, but JARED SULLINGER is a crafty scorer. He'll get close to starter minutes as the Celtics search for offense . . . BRANDON BASS will see time at the 4 and the 5. He's made a pledge to improve offensively, but more likely he'll be a defensive presence and a screen-setter . . . JAMES YOUNG missed most of the summer healing a neck injury. He's going to do some damage running the floor, but he doesn't have the skills for the half-court game in the NBA . . . GERALD WALLACE is playing out the string. CENTERS: KELLY OLYNYK has the most upside in this frontcourt. His rare mobility and skill set for a 7-footer made a difference last year. It's just a question of whether he can hold up defensively down low . . . TYLER ZELLER gives them another solid 7-footer who opposing defenses have to account for. He'll fit well in head coach Brad Stevens' system . . . JOEL ANTHONY isn't going to get off the bench.
MIAMI: GUARDS: He's a shell of his former self, but the Heat will have to squeeze more regular-season minutes out of DWYANE WADE. His effectiveness could depend on whether or not he finally develops a three-point shot . . . The point guard situation is getting muddied, but the Heat dug deep to re-sign MARIO CHALMERS. He'll top the PG depth chart again . . . NORRIS COLE is likely too small and too erratic to ever be a starter, but he'll continue to play solid minutes with the second unit . . . The Heat seemed to grab SHABAZZ NAPIER on draft night because he's a LeBron James favorite. Now that James is gone, the rookie could be the odd man out in the point guard rotation. He'll have to overcome subpar measurables. FORWARDS: LUOL DENG is most certainly not LeBron James, and he won't fill anything resembling James' new role. He does give them a strong role player, a defensive stopper and secondary scorer . . . JOSH McROBERTS will facilitate the offense at times and generally serve as a floor-spacing, stretch-4. Miami is built to go small with him and Chris Bosh up front . . . DANNY GRANGER is trying to reinvent himself after an injury-filled couple of seasons. He can play both forward spots and might fit best as a stretch-4 in head coach Erik Spoelstra's system . . . UDONIS HASLEM is essentially a mascot during the regular season . . . JAMES ENNIS could break into the rotation later this season. He was tremendous in Summer League play. CENTERS: CHRIS BOSH is the best player on this team by a significant margin. He'll be the focal point of the offense most nights and should flirt with the 20-10 numbers he used to put up in Toronto . . . CHRIS ANDERSEN will often pair with Bosh in the frontcourt, taking some of the defensive heat off Bosh against bigger lineups.

*Celtics-Heat Preview* ======================

By JEFF MEZYDLO STATS Senior Writer

Boston (10-14) at Miami (12-15), 6:00 p.m. EDT

Facing the worst team in the Western Conference, the Boston Celtics fared well in their first game since trading star Rajon Rondo.

With perhaps their new additions available against a somewhat tougher opponent Sunday night, the Celtics look for a season-high fourth straight victory while trying to extend the Miami Heat's worst home skid in seven seasons.

A day after sending the four-time All-Star to Dallas for Jameer Nelson, Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, two draft picks and a $12.9 million trade exception, Boston (10-14) continued its surge with a 114-98 win over Minnesota on Friday. Kelly Olynyk scored 21 points to lead six players in double figures for the Celtics, who have won six of nine and no longer must deal with the distraction of Rondo's status.

"We are building every single night to be the best that we can be," coach Brad Stevens said. "Tonight, tomorrow, the next night. That's never going to stop."

Whether that continues Sunday with the new acquisitions remains to be seen. All three watched Friday's victory from the locker room after watching video with Stevens.

Nelson, the longtime Orlando guard who averaged 7.3 points and 4.1 assists in 23 games with the Mavericks, should replace Rondo though Evan Turner, Marcus Smart and Phil Pressey also could see time at the point.

"I've never worn green on any level of basketball," said Nelson, who averaged 12.6 points and 5.4 assists during 10 seasons with the Magic. "I think it complements my skin tone, though."

Avery Bradley had seven assists to lead seven players with at least three for the Celtics, who recorded 29 on Friday.

"We were just playing together, moving the ball and everyone contributed," said Olynyk, who has averaged 22.0 points in three games. "That's a fun way to play."

Wright, who leads the NBA in field-goal percentage (74.8) and averaged 8.8 points with 4.1 rebounds for Dallas, and Crowder (3.6 ppg) are expected to contribute off the bench.

"Let's take a deep breath and enjoy the holidays and let's let these (new) guys play, see how everybody fits in," said Danny Ainge, Boston's president of basketball operations.

They'll try not to break the rhythm of a team that's shot 55.8 percent in two games and allowed an average of 92.3 points in the last three. The Celtics yielded 107.3 points while losing 11 of their first 16 games but have held six of the last eight opponents to fewer than 100.

Boston has dropped five of seven at Miami, but the Heat (12-15) have already matched their total of nine home losses from last season and are trying to avoid losing six straight there for the first time since a seven-game slide in March 2008.

"We all want to win now," star Dwyane Wade said after Miami lost for the eighth time in nine home contests, 105-103 to Washington on Friday.

"It sucks from that standpoint but we'll keep coming in, keep trying to find a way to get better."

Wade had a game-high 28 points but committed a costly turnover in the finals seconds as the Heat fell to 3-8 in December.

Wade, who scored 42 - his most in four years - in Wednesday's 105-87 home loss to Utah, has been held to an average of 15.8 points on 39.7 percent shooting in his last five versus Boston.
