| |  | CLEVELAND: GUARDS: KYRIE IRVING is the real deal, a heady playmaker and near-elite shooter. He should emerge as the NBA's next great point guard this season . . . Rookie DION WAITERS has a chance to step right into the starting lineup. He can get to the rim and generally makes good choices withthe ball. The only thing holding him back is defense after playing college ball in Syracuse's lazy zone . . . C.J. MILES will reportedly start at either the two or three spot, but he really needs to find the range on his shot again for him to stick in the starting lineup . . . Gunning combo guard DANIEL GIBSON is looking like he'll be their sixth man . . . The Cavs are still trying to figure out their second unit. JEREMY PARGO figures to be Irving's backup, but DONALD SLOAN is a better defender and could eventually pass him for this role, which doesn't mean many minutes unless Irving gets injured again. FORWARDS: TRISTAN THOMPSON is trying to add a perimeter shot to his repertoire. Don't count on him becoming David West, but he should improve offensively to go along with his rebounding and shot-blocking . . . ALONZO GEE returns as the starting small forward, excelling on the defensive end, but without a polished enough offensive game to earn 35 minutes per night . . . OMRI CASSPI was in and out of the rotation late in the year as he battled knee issues. It's getting close to make-or-break time for him . . . JON LEUER is a solid stretch four who has a real chance at a rotation spot . . . SAMARDO SAMUELS reportedly dropped some weight in his effort to find some minutes . . . LUKE WALTON is an unofficial member of the coaching staff . . . Undrafted rookie KEVIN JONES could make some noise with his work on the offensive boards . . . LUKE HARANGODY is more of a D-League talent. CENTERS: ANDERSON VAREJAO's wrist should be 100 percent, and Sideshow Anderson should be the same relentless, double-double threat he's always been . . . Rookie TYLER ZELLER is a 7-footer with some nice offensive skills -- he can knock down a jump shot in the half court, and run the floor. He'll struggle to defend in space, but made a living drawing charges at UNC, and should be able to play 20+ minutes as a rookie. | | MIAMI: GUARDS: The regular season goal for DWYANE WADE is to just stay healthy. Even following knee surgery, he's still good enough to pile up numbers, but the minutes won't be there in the regular season . . . That's why the Heat brought in RAY ALLEN. He and Wade will share the floor at times, but Allen should primarily play off the bench. His role will be to knock down the wide-open threes Wade and LeBron James create . . . After all the big plays he made in the postseason, MARIO CHALMERS is entrenched as the starting point guard, despite being plagued by a bad hammy in the preseason . . . Super-quick NORRIS COLE looks like he'll become one of the NBA's better backup point guards . . . If he doesn't retire, the absurdly brittle MIKE MILLER will see limited regular-season minutes . . . TERREL HARRIS will likely make the team because he's willing to play defense. FORWARDS: While another title is their No. 1 priority, LeBRON JAMES has shown no need to rest during the regular season. He'll play full-time minutes and be in the thick of the MVP race . . . CHRIS BOSH remains integral to the offense with his ability to pull opposing bigs away from the basket. His stats don't reflect his actual value . . . SHANE BATTIER will continue to be a defensive specialist whose offensive role is limited to shooting open threes . . . UDONIS HASLEM is another guy who will get held back in the regular season. He should lead their low-post rotation . . . RASHARD LEWIS' knee problems have robbed him of athleticism . . . But Lewis should beat out fellow shooter JAMES JONES for a rotation spot . . . JARVIS VARNADO is a shot-blocking force with little to no offensive game. CENTERS: JOEL ANTHONY will continue to tag-team with Haslem in the middle. Anthony is an absolute negative on the offensive end, but he brings more size and shot-blocking than Haslem . . . DEXTER PITTMAN will be battling for a roster spot. Sexy Dexy has shown no signs of being an NBA-caliber player so far in his career . . . MICKELL GLADNESS is a better alternative than Pittman on both ends of the floor. |

Cleveland (3-8) at Miami (9-3), 7:30 p.m. EDT
For the first time, LeBron James will be facing his former team as an NBA champion.
James has never lost a game in his new home to the lowly Cleveland Cavaliers and will try to help the Miami Heat improve to 6-0 at AmericanAirlines Arena on Saturday night.
The acrimonious departure two seasons ago of Cleveland's top overall pick in 2003 will always be notable in the career of James, who finally added his name to the list of great NBA champions last season with his play during the Heat's run to the title.
Wearing the mantle of champion is a new burden for James. He and Miami (9-3) showed signs of difficulty in handling that challenge Wednesday in blowing an 18-point lead before hanging on for a 113-106 overtime home victory over Milwaukee.
"Guys get up to play us and we understand that," James said. "Guys are in this league for a reason."
Cleveland (3-9) could be up for this game as it tries for its first win in five tries in Miami. James has only been needed to average 21.8 points in four previous home meetings against his former club, with the Heat prevailing each time thanks to the depth of talent surrounding him.
The Cavaliers, however, travel to South Beach without the services of Kyrie Irving, who has replaced James as the face of the franchise after being drafted first overall in 2011. Irving is out with a broken finger.
Jeremy Pargo picked up the slack in Cleveland's first game without Irving with a season-high 28 points in Wednesday's 92-83 victory over Philadelphia. Pargo was held to 15 two nights later as the Cavs dropped their sixth straight on the road, 108-104 to Orlando.
Cleveland allowed Orlando to shoot 50.0 percent. Opponents are shooting an Eastern Conference-high 49.0 percent against the Cavs.
"Again, we allowed another team to shoot a high percentage tonight, and those guys shot the ball pretty well," coach Byron Scott said.
Led by James, Miami leads the NBA at 49.2 percent from the floor.
One positive Friday for the Cavs was the 25 points from Dion Waiters, who is second among all rookies with a 14.8 scoring average. Waiters has totaled 11 assists in the two contests without Irving for his best two-game stretch.
Anderson Varejao had 19 points and 17 boards for his third straight double-double as he gets ready to bang inside with Heat big man Udonis Haslem.
Haslem became Miami's all-time franchise leader in rebounding Wednesday. He surpassed Alonzo Mourning with 4,814 boards.
"Words can't really describe what I feel right now, just coming from where I came from, going through the situation that I had to go through, being undrafted, going to Europe, I had to fight to make the team," Haslem said.
The Heat continue to get excellent production from Chris Bosh, who had 24 points and 18 boards Wednesday. He's averaging 20.0 points - his highest in three seasons with Miami.
Miami's 5-0 start at home is its best in team history.
