| |  | GOLDEN STATE: GUARDS: New head coach Steve Kerr doesn't figure to tweak this system much, so expect STEPHEN CURRY to keep doing his thing. He's added elite playmaking skills to his already outstanding deep shooting . . . The Warriors are reluctant to part with KLAY THOMPSON in part because of his three-point shooting, but mostly because of his defensive value alongside Curry . . . SHAUN LIVINGSTON will back up both guard spots. He's also the only proven point guard on the roster besides Curry . . . BRANDON RUSH will look to revive his career in Oakland. He'll have to prove his knees are healthy enough before he earns a rotation spot . . . It's a make or break year already for NEMANJA NEDOVIC, who was severely overmatched as a rookie. FORWARDS: ANDRE IGUODALA is a defensive specialist and no more than a role player on offense. His main job is to take some of the playmaking duties away from Curry . . . Kerr seems resigned to the fact that he's stuck with DAVID LEE. He has some value on offense, but remains one of the league's worst defensive frontcourt players. Expect him to lose some minutes under Kerr . . . HARRISON BARNES will play a bit of power forward in some small lineups, but mostly he'll play a wing spot. Barnes will have to regain his confidence early if he's going to be an impact sixth man . . . Kerr has hinted at a bigger role for DRAYMOND GREEN, who will play some stretch-4 this year . . . MARREESE SPEIGHTS gives them an offense-only big man off the bench. CENTERS: Kerr has hinted at a bigger offensive role for ANDREW BOGUT. But monitoring the Aussie's minutes may be the bigger goal, to ensure he's actually available for the postseason . . . Back-up center FESTUS EZELI should be ready to return from his knee injury, though he was having shin problems during Summer League. | | MEMPHIS: GUARDS: So much for head coach David Joerger picking up the tempo. MIKE CONLEY has become a much better half-court player, a requirement on this team . . . COURTNEY LEE will likely be the offensive side of their 2-guard platoon, as he was late last season . . . He lost some minutes late last season, but there's still a part-time role for TONY ALLEN . . . VINCE CARTER will take over Mike Miller's old role, a floor spacer at both wing spots . . . The Grizzlies blocked NICK CALATHES' move back to Europe to keep him around for point guard depth. He is suspended for the first 13 games of the season . . . JORDAN ADAMS comes from UCLA with a strong statistical profile. He might not break into the rotation as a rookie, though . . . BENO UDRIH bought himself another season with strong postseason play. FORWARDS: ZACH RANDOLPH remains the go-to scorer in Memphis. And he's playing for what might be his last big NBA payday . . . TAYSHAUN PRINCE has faded fast, and his expiring contract might be his greatest asset right now . . . QUINCY PONDEXTER returns after missing most of last season with a stress fracture in his foot. He'll have to battle his way back into the rotation after the acquisition of Vince Carter . . . Second-rounder JARNELL STOKES has a football player's build and is quick around the basket, but he could be looking at a season spent mostly in the D-League . . . JON LEUER is still doing Jon Leuer things, shooting well from long range and grabbing occasional rebounds. CENTERS: MARC GASOL will earn a max contract if he keeps playing at this level. Along with very good defense, he's become a valuable facilitator for this team on the offensive end of the court . . . KOSTA KOUFOS is one of the league's better back-up centers. He fits well in the Grizzlies' slow-tempo system. |

Golden State At Memphis, Game Three, 8:00 p.m. EDT
Led by Mike Conley's return and Tony Allen's defense, the Memphis Grizzlies dimmed the Golden State Warriors' aura of invincibility for the first time this postseason.
As the series shifts to Memphis for Game 3, the Grizzlies face the tough task of repeating their winning formula Saturday night against a Warriors team that has lost back-to-back games only once since January.
"We're still the underdogs," Conley said. "We understand that and that's the position we've been in for many years. So we know that we have our hands full and they can easily come in here and beat us."
Conley provided a spark in a surprising 97-90 road victory Tuesday that evened the Western Conference semifinals. He made his first four shots and scored 22 points while donning a mask just eight days after having surgery to repair facial fractures.
While Golden State's Stephen Curry is the league's MVP, Conley has been that for the Grizzlies throughout the playoffs. Memphis has gone 4-0 when the point guard plays, but has dropped two of three without him.
After giving Portland's Damian Lillard a difficult time in the first round, Conley had a hand in holding Curry to a playoff-low 19 points - 10.3 below his postseason average - and 2-of-11 shooting from 3-point range.
Conley said the three-day layoff between Games 2 and 3 has helped his swollen face and sprained right foot.
"This is going to be huge for me just having some time to really concentrate on myself, on my body, eating habits and all things that you normally don't get with one day off between games," he added.
Allen understands that continuing to lock down Golden State's All-Star backcourt won't be easy. Memphis' defensive stopper helped frustrate Klay Thompson, who had 13 points on 6-of-15 shooting and committed five turnovers in Game 2.
Thompson has totaled 31 points in this series while missing 8 of 11 from 3-point range after scoring 25.0 per game and hitting 16 of 33 from beyond the arc in the Warriors' first round sweep of New Orleans. He missed all three of his shots - one of them blocked - on 18 touches with Allen defending him Tuesday.
"What we can do is to try and make things difficult," said Allen, who has 12 steals in his last three games. "We know they're going to come back firing, but we have to focus on playing hard for 48 minutes."
The Warriors have gotten used to bouncing back after suffering back-to-back losses on only four occasions in 88 games.
They'll try to regain home-court advantage after committing a playoff-high 20 turnovers, shooting 6 for 26 from 3-point range and failing to score more than two consecutive baskets for only the second time all season.
"It's the playoffs and this is kind of how it works," coach Steve Kerr said. "You get outplayed by a really good team and you're going to lose whether you're at home or on the road, so it's 1-1 and we move on."
Draymond Green had 14 points but shot just 3 of 11 from the field Tuesday, while opposing power forward Zach Randolph has been a key player for the Grizzlies with 20 points in each of the first two games to go with 16 boards.
Golden State was an NBA-best 28-13 on the road during the regular season before winning a pair in New Orleans in the opening round, though Memphis has won all three of its home playoff games. The Warriors dropped nine consecutive games at FedEx Forum before winning on two of their past three visits.
"For us, this is some of the first adversity that we've faced," Thompson said. "We've got a couple options: we can hang our heads or we can go in there and fight in Memphis. We're the best road team in the NBA for a reason."
