| |  | PHILADELPHIA: GUARDS: JRUE HOLIDAY is knocking on the door of All-Star status. He's excellent defensively, though his stats sometimes sag because of Philly's deliberate style . . . JASON RICHARDSON gives them some shooting on the wing, but may see his minutes fade if he can't play the kind of defense Collins demands . . . Swingman EVAN TURNER is an intriguing but flawed player. He doesn't quite have the offensive repertoire to be a primary scorer, and he'll continue to get inconsistent minutes as Collins plays to matchups on the wings . . . NICK YOUNG will have something of a lesser sixth-man role than Lou Williams used to have . . . As an offensively-limited but athletic, defensive-minded guard, ROYAL IVEY is the kind of bench player Collins looks for. FORWARDS: Even with Elton Brand gone, THADDEUS YOUNG will play more of a part-time role. Collins has never seemed satisfied with his talented young 'tweener, and Spencer Hawes is expected to slide to the four alongside Andrew Bynum . . . DORELL WRIGHT brings some much needed shooting on the wing. He plays the kind of defense Collins demands and, if his shot is on, he should be close to a 30-MPG player despite his struggles in Golden State last season . . . LAVOY ALLEN is a serviceable reserve big. He'll see few minutes off the bench unless Bynum gets hurt . . . ARNETT MOULTRIE fits the Sixers mold as an athlete. He could be a regular in the rotation by midseason. CENTERS: Maybe ANDREW BYNUM will be happier moving back to the east coast. As long as his knees hold up, he's an All-Star lock . . . SPENCER HAWES will actually play a lot of four this year. He's an offensively-capable 7-footer who's also become a much better rebounder over the past couple seasons . . . KWAME BROWN will be sparingly used as a big body who can move on the defensive end. | | LA CLIPPERS: GUARDS: CHRIS PAUL was every bit an MVP-caliber player in his first year in L.A. They should monitor his minutes late in the regular season to keep him fresh for the playoffs. . . His Achilles is on schedule to be healed by December, and CHAUNCEY BILLUPS will start once he's healthy. He's likely to lose athleticism, and his leash could be short if he shoots as poorly as he did last year . . . JAMAL CRAWFORD steps in to lead the second unit. We'll see how quickly his inefficient, shoot-first ways grow stale . . . ERIC BLEDSOE was a stud in the playoffs. He can't play extended minutes alongside Paul, but coach Vinny Del Negro knows he has to get Bledsoe on the floor . . . WILLIE GREEN provides capable depth, but he's on the outside looking in at the rotation. FORWARDS: BLAKE GRIFFIN's knee injury likely isn't serious enough to linger into the season. He's starting to develop some post moves to go along with his dunks . . . CARON BUTLER played hurt for most of last year, but still did enough to nail down a starting job for this season . . . LAMAR ODOM moped his way back to L.A. Don't be surprised if he has a strong bounce-back year, especially considering he'll be the Clippers' best defensive big . . . GRANT HILL could see some starts, but more likely the 40-year-old is pegged for limited minutes . . . MATT BARNES will replace Hill once he injures himself again . . . RONNY TURIAF will provide some of the toughness they lost when Reggie Evans left . . . TREY THOMPKINS will continue to languish on the bench, especially after sitting out the preseason with a knee injury. CENTERS: He can block shots and rebound, but at this point DeANDRE JORDAN is just too much of a defensive liability in space to play 30-plus minutes. That's why the Clippers will often pair Lamar Odom with Blake Griffin in the frontcourt . . . RYAN HOLLINS can also defend the basket and has six fouls to give. |

Philadelphia (26-40) at Los Angeles (46-22), 10:30 p.m. EDT
Chris Paul has decisively outplayed Jrue Holiday the four times they have squared off against each other as starters.
Paul hopes that trend continues Wednesday night when his Los Angeles Clippers try to extend the Philadelphia 76ers' road skid to 14 games.
The matchup of these All-Star point guards figures to be the focal point of this contest. Paul is averaging 21.3 points on 57.4 percent shooting and Holiday just 10.5 points on 33.3 percent shooting when they've met as starters.
That includes the Clippers' 107-90 road victory Feb. 11. Paul had 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting to go with 11 assists and five steals. Holiday scored 10 points on 4-of-14 shooting and added nine assists.
Paul is second in the NBA with 9.7 assists per game while Holiday - a southern California native - is fourth at 8.7.
Philadelphia (26-40) is enduring its longest road slide since a franchise-worst 20 straight such defeats in 1987-88. The 76ers' last road win came in their last visit to Staples Center, a 103-99 victory over the Lakers on Jan. 1.
This is the start of a four-game trip comprised of two back-to-back sets.
"Now we gotta go out on the road, it's a very tough trip for us, not so much in the number of games but how they are played," coach Doug Collins said. "You got the Clippers and then you got Denver in a back-to-back. Then you got two days off and then you got (Sacramento) and you got Utah in a back-to-back."
Los Angeles (46-22) continued its troubling pattern of alternating wins and losses with Tuesday's 116-101 defeat at Sacramento. The Clippers led by five entering the fourth quarter before giving up 38 points - the most they have allowed in any period all season.
"We're not playing well enough right now, we're not guarding hard enough right now, we're not physically and mentally tough enough, especially when we have to be in the fourth quarter," coach Vinny Del Negro said.
Blake Griffin led Los Angeles with 26 points while Jamal Crawford scored 25. Paul missed 8 of 10 shots from the field, although he handed out 15 assists.
Starting guard Chauncey Billups left the game after seven minutes due to a groin injury.
The Clippers lead Golden State by 7 1/2 games in the Pacific as they bid for the franchise's first division title. However, they have fallen behind Memphis and Denver in the race for home-court advantage in the first round.
"No one is going to feel sorry for you, you've got another game tomorrow night," Del Negro said. "We've got to bounce back at home in front of our fans."
Holiday is coming off back-to-back 27-point efforts for the Sixers, who won 101-100 over Portland on Monday to complete a 3-1 homestand that included victories over Brooklyn and Indiana.
"I'm proud of our guys, it was a very, very nice week for them," Collins said. "I think you can see the fight and the competitive spirit - this team wants to win."
Spencer Hawes recorded his fourth double-double in six games with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Thaddeus Young, who missed the first meeting with Los Angeles with a hamstring injury, scored 19.
