| | | MILWAUKEE: GUARDS: BRANDON JENNINGS benefitted from the arrival of Monta Ellis last year. He has the offense and system to thrive, and now needs to prove he can be efficient enough to be a star . . . MONTA ELLIS played second fiddle to Jennings last year, and really struggled to shoot the ball. The Bucks now play the kind of tempo he likes, but he'll have to adjust to playing off the ball more often . . . BENO UDRIH won't see a ton of action off the bench considering Jennings and Ellis play so many minutes. If a starter gets hurt, he could step in and hit a lot of threes . . . Second-rounder DORON LAMB has some upside as a future sixth man, but figures to ride the bench this year once his torn elbow ligament heals. FORWARDS: ERSAN ILYASOVA should finally get some respect from Skiles after starring down the stretch last year . . . MIKE DUNLEAVY re-emerged as a legitimate three-point threat, though he doesn't do much else . . . DREW GOODEN's role should shrink with Ilyasova stepping up and Sam Dalembert coming in . . . LUC RICHARD MBAH a MOUTE is coming off knee surgery, but he's improving as a rebounder and can play both forward spots off the bench . . . Rookie JOHN HENSON is a defensive stud and does enough as a screener to get decent minutes early . . . TOBIAS HARRIS was a Summer League star, but he's too much of a 'tweener to thrive in the NBA . . . EKPE UDOH provides defense and rebounding off the bench . . . LARRY SANDERS has potential, but this frontcourt is too crowded for him to make an impact. CENTERS: SAM DALEMBERT fell in and out of favor in Houston, but he's exactly what the Bucksneed as a defensive presence in the paint. Milwaukee has numerous players who can man the five in spots (Ekpe Udoh, Drew Gooden), but Dalembert is by far their best defensive option and should see big minutes . . . JOEL PRZYBILLA signed on in August to provide back-end depth on the pine. | | LA CLIPPERS: GUARDS: CHRIS PAUL was every bit an MVP-caliber player in his first year in L.A. They should monitor his minutes late in the regular season to keep him fresh for the playoffs. . . His Achilles is on schedule to be healed by December, and CHAUNCEY BILLUPS will start once he's healthy. He's likely to lose athleticism, and his leash could be short if he shoots as poorly as he did last year . . . JAMAL CRAWFORD steps in to lead the second unit. We'll see how quickly his inefficient, shoot-first ways grow stale . . . ERIC BLEDSOE was a stud in the playoffs. He can't play extended minutes alongside Paul, but coach Vinny Del Negro knows he has to get Bledsoe on the floor . . . WILLIE GREEN provides capable depth, but he's on the outside looking in at the rotation. FORWARDS: BLAKE GRIFFIN's knee injury likely isn't serious enough to linger into the season. He's starting to develop some post moves to go along with his dunks . . . CARON BUTLER played hurt for most of last year, but still did enough to nail down a starting job for this season . . . LAMAR ODOM moped his way back to L.A. Don't be surprised if he has a strong bounce-back year, especially considering he'll be the Clippers' best defensive big . . . GRANT HILL could see some starts, but more likely the 40-year-old is pegged for limited minutes . . . MATT BARNES will replace Hill once he injures himself again . . . RONNY TURIAF will provide some of the toughness they lost when Reggie Evans left . . . TREY THOMPKINS will continue to languish on the bench, especially after sitting out the preseason with a knee injury. CENTERS: He can block shots and rebound, but at this point DeANDRE JORDAN is just too much of a defensive liability in space to play 30-plus minutes. That's why the Clippers will often pair Lamar Odom with Blake Griffin in the frontcourt . . . RYAN HOLLINS can also defend the basket and has six fouls to give. |

*Bucks-Clippers Preview* ========================
By NOEY KUPCHAN STATS Writer
Milwaukee (30-28) at Los Angeles (43-19), 10:30 p.m. EDT
The Los Angeles Clippers had been rolling along before coming up short against one of the NBA's best teams over the weekend.
While they might normally like their chances of getting back on track with a visit from Milwaukee, the Bucks are starting to hit their stride.
The Clippers aim for a 12th home win in 13 matchups against the Bucks, who look to extend their winning streak to a season-high five Wednesday night.
Sitting comfortably atop the Pacific Division, Los Angeles (43-19) had won eight of nine before falling 108-104 to Oklahoma City on Sunday. Chris Paul had 26 points while Blake Griffin and Jamal Crawford added 20 apiece for the Clippers, who erased a 19-point deficit but couldn't keep up down the stretch.
Not including two losses to the Thunder, Los Angeles has gone 18-2 over its last 20 home games.
"Hopefully we can use this as a barometer to tighten some things up," coach Vinny Del Negro told the team's official website. "No one is going to feel sorry for you. You've got to get some good work in, get ready for Wednesday and then move forward."
The Clippers, who cruised to a 111-85 victory at Milwaukee on Dec. 15, have won 11 of 15 in the series.
Milwaukee (30-28), though, could have a chance to snap those woes if its recent play is any indication. The Bucks have averaged 109.0 points - 10.5 more than their season mark - during their win streak.
Milwaukee got all it could handle Monday but escaped with a 109-108 overtime win over Utah. Monta Ellis led the way with 34 points and recently acquired J.J. Redick added 17, including eight in OT.
"The guy is a great shooter. ... The thing with J.J., when he shoots the ball, you expect it to go in," coach Jim Boylan said. "Whenever I see him raising up for a shot, I feel pretty good."
Ellis has been superb during the run, compiling 26.5 points per game on 51.3 percent shooting.
"(Monta) has been great," Redick said. "He's a great player when he's in attack mode like he's been in the last few games."
Brandon Jennings, meanwhile, appears focused on getting his teammates more involved. Jennings, who leads the team with 6.6 assists per game, dished out a career-high 19 in Saturday's 122-114 overtime win over Toronto, then recorded 17 and 20 points against the Jazz.
The Bucks are 23-11 when Jennings has at least six assists.
"The easiest thing in the NBA is scoring. Trying to assist and count on guys to get buckets for you is the hardest part," he said. "Everybody didn't think I could pass like this. I've always been a pass-first point guard since high school, so now we have a little more help with J.J. so I can show what I can do."
Milwaukee owns the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
"I think when you play in these close games and you win, it can't help but boost your confidence," Boylan said. "We're getting more comfortable with each other out there."
The Bucks haven't won five in a row since a six-game run last March 9-20.
