| |  | BOSTON: GUARDS: This offense now belongs to RAJON RONDO, and that should be especially true during the regular season . . . Even if he comes off the bench, JASON TERRY figures to see the bulk of the minutes at shooting guard. He provides some much-needed outside shooting after Ray Allen left and should challenge Paul Pierce for the team lead in shot attempts . . . Adding COURTNEY LEE was more of a move for the future. He's a fine young second-unit player for now and should be an heir apparent on one of the wings . . . AVERY BRADLEY could be out until December after shoulder surgery. As Boston's best perimeter defensive player, he could reclaim his starting job in the season's second half . . . The addition of LEANDRO BARBOSA gives Boston another veteran who can create his own offense in the second unit, something that was sorely missing in last year's playoff run. FORWARDS: PAUL PIERCE quietly had a great regular season last year. Though with some improved depth behind him, Rivers might have his 35-year-old All-Star wing rest more often . . . BRANDON BASS gives them another scoring option, even if he does struggle on the defensive end. He'll get full-time minutes only in certain matchups as long as the frontcourt is healthy . . . JEFF GREEN's heart condition is no longer a concern, but the tweener's role in Boston after a year off is cause for worry . . . There are already question marks surrounding rookie JARED SULLINGER's back. He's very similar to Bass: He can score out to mid-range but doesn't play much defense. Expect him to be strictly a second-unit player in his first NBA season . . . CHRIS WILCOX will provide fouls off the bench when healthy. CENTERS: The Celtics are prepared to go with KEVIN GARNETT in the middle, which was the case when they were at their best last season. His role on offense is still knocking down mid-range jumpers, and he's still an elite defensive player . . . Professional flopper JASON COLLINS will fill in nicely for the departed Greg Stiemsma . . . FAB MELO is years away from being ready to contribute (if he actually is ever ready to contribute) and DARKO MILICIC was also added via free agency for more frontcourt depth. | | INDIANA: GUARDS: The Pacers went 7-2 during the regular season and won a playoff series with GEORGE HILL in the starting five. He averaged 13.9 PPG and 5.3 APG in those regular season starts . . . PAUL GEORGE is a defensive stopper who is making strides on the offensive end. If he can find the touches, his scoring average will rise . . . D.J. AUGUSTIN has a skill set similar to Hill's. Maybe he'll push him for minutes later in the year, but more likely he'll shoot corner threes off the bench . . . GERALD GREEN is another athlete for their second unit . . . LANCE STEPHENSON has a chance for a bigger role, but he's been atrocious to this point of his career. FORWARDS: DANNY GRANGER's touches dropped last season, but his shot selection improved as last year went on. He'll continue to be a borderline All-Star . . . DAVID WEST's knee should be fully recovered from his torn ACL in late 2010-11. He was their best player in the postseason and should be a star this season with his ability to knock down shots . . . TYLER HANSBROUGH looks like he's settling in as a career second unit player. His lack of athleticism really limits his upside . . . JEFF PENDERGRAPH may or may not hold on to a roster spot in a 12th-man role. CENTERS: They're paying ROY HIBBERT like a franchise player, and he has the ability to control both ends of the court. The question is whether they'll now play him 30-plus minutes, or continue to use him as more of a part-time player . . . IAN MAHINMI should step in as a decent backup center . . . Rookie MILES PLUMLEE was a part-time player at Duke and is highly unlikely to contribute in his first season. |

Boston (31-27) at Indiana (38-22), 7:00 p.m. EDT
The Indiana Pacers have surged into second place in the Eastern Conference and have an excellent chance to win their first Central Division title in nine years.
Anything beyond that may involve getting past the Boston Celtics.
In a possible playoff preview, Indiana seeks an eighth victory in nine tries Wednesday night by preventing visiting Boston from extending its winning streak to four games.
Indiana (38-22) continued its recent solid play by defeating Chicago 97-92 on Sunday and leads third-place New York by one-half game in the East. The victory also pushed its Central lead over the Bulls to four games.
David West scored a season-high 31 points and George Hill added 21 for the Pacers, who haven't won a division title since 2003-04.
West is averaging 24.0 points over his last four games.
"(West) leads our team in will," coach Frank Vogel said. "He has a great will to do whatever is necessary to get the job done and to get a `W."'
The Pacers, winners in 21 of 24 at home, rank second in the league in defense allowing 89.6 points per game.
"Throughout the year, as our defense has continued to grow, we know that we have confidence to make plays in games and to get stops to win," West said.
Indiana's offense, though, let it down in the first meeting with Boston as it shot a season-low 31.8 percent in a 94-75 loss Jan. 4. West and Paul George, who scored 10 points and shot 4 of 14 from the field Sunday, each hit only 4 of 18 shots.
The Pacers know they'll be in for another tough challenge despite not having to face Rajon Rondo, who is out for the season with a torn ACL.
"They have one of the best coaches in the game," Vogel told the team's official website. "They win no matter who's in uniform. That's what kind of team Boston is and that's a credit to Doc Rivers."
Avery Bradley has stepped into a starting role since Rondo's injury, and he scored a season-high 22 points in Tuesday's 109-101 victory at Philadelphia as the Celtics (32-27) won their third straight.
"My teammates have confidence in me and I have confidence in myself," said Bradley, who hit 10 of 15 from the field. "When I have an open shot, I have to take it. That's how we  this team. It helps us when I do that."
Vogel said Boston has been just as dangerous with Bradley running the point.
"They're actually running a lot more than they typically do," Vogel said. "They're going to bring more defensive ball pressure when you have Avery Bradley in there at the point guard spot and more of an up-tempo style."
Boston is in seventh place in the East but is only 1 1/2 games behind Chicago for fourth after Paul Pierce finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists Tuesday.
Jeff Green scored 16 points off the bench and fellow reserve Jordan Crawford added 12 for the Celtics, who finished 11 of 19 from 3-point range.
"That's the new us in a lot of ways, the ball finds the open guy," Rivers said. "It's simple, but it's hard to do unless you buy in. Everyone has bought in."
Boston has won three straight and eight of the last 11 meetings with Indiana.
