KEY GAME INFORMATION
CLEVELAND: GUARDS: KYRIE IRVING will play off the ball more. With defenses keying on LeBron James, Irving should become a more efficient scorer . . . DION WAITERS will start for the Cavaliers at shooting guard. He shows flashes of brilliance on offense, but like Irving, doesn't play defense . . . MIKE MILLER reunites with James as a part-time floor spacer . . . JOE HARRIS' deep shooting makes him a possible long-term replacement for Miller. FORWARDS: LeBRON JAMES is the MVP favorite. He'll fill up the stat sheet while having these Cavaliers in a position to win every single night . . . KEVIN LOVE is one of the game's premier power forwards. He should have plenty of open looks this season, as he plays off of James. He'll also rack up rebounds . . . TRISTAN THOMPSON's switch from shooting left-handed to righty last season went well. He's a solid two-way player who should see time at center as well . . . SHAWN MARION will be a swiss-army knife off the bench for the Cavs. He can do a little bit of everything and will allow James to get a little rest this season. . . JAMES JONES followed James to Cleveland. He'll see minutes in a handful of games as a three-point specialist. CENTERS: ANDERSON VAREJAO stayed relatively healthy last season, and the Cavs will need him considering their thin rotation up front. He never developed much of an offensive game, but his energy, defense and rebounding fit well alongside Thompson and James.

Because of this important information, no power rating or computer score edges are posted for this game.

HOUSTON: GUARDS: The postseason was a different story for JAMES HARDEN, but he was a dominant all-around performer during the past two regular seasons. He'll do the bulk of the ball-handling for the up-tempo Rockets . . . After looking for an upgrade during the offseason, it's back to PATRICK BEVERLEY at the point. He's the No. 4 or 5 option on offense, but his defense will keep him on the floor . . . There's little backcourt depth, so rookie NICK JOHNSON has a shot at the rotation. He's NBA-ready as a defender, but his offensive game is shaky . . . ISH SMITH will push for that back-up point guard job . . . ISAIAH CANAAN will have to shoot the lights out early to get a look in the rotation . . . FRANCISCO GARCIA is still here as a 3-and-D option. FORWARDS: TREVOR ARIZA slides into Chandler Parsons' old role, providing defense and three-point shooting. He has a chance for a career-best output offensively . . . The Rockets know they need an upgrade over TERRENCE JONES, but they struck out during the offseason. He's a hustle guy, but he's too much of a defensive liability at the 4-spot . . . After disappearing last season, DONATAS MOTIEJUNAS has a chance to play himself into a thin frontcourt rotation. He's a potential 7-foot floor spacer . . . JEFF ADRIEN will be a "little things" guy in the second unit . . . They wanted to leave CLINT CAPELA overseas, but he'll be in Houston. He might be the future at the 4-spot, but he's years away . . . KOSTAS PAPANIKOLAOU has potential as a versatile bench option. CENTERS: DWIGHT HOWARD looked healthy again and was, at times, dominant. His game still has obvious flaws, namely free-throw shooting and an inability to step away from the basket, but there's no reason he can't flirt with 20-10 nightly while being among the league leaders in blocks . . . Ex-Rocket JOEY DORSEY returns after a strong stint in Spain. He'll bring some muscle (and six fouls) behind Howard.

*Cavaliers-Rockets Preview* ===========================

By ALAN FERGUSON STATS Writer

Cleveland (37-23) at Houston (40-18), 3:30 p.m. EDT

The Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to get LeBron James back for an always-daunting visit to the streaking Houston Rockets.

The Cavaliers, though, won't have one of their other All-Stars again since Kyrie Irving will miss his second straight game Sunday.

With its two top scorers sidelined, Cleveland (37-23) took just its third loss in 21 games, 93-86 at Indiana on Friday. The Cavaliers also had a four-game win streak snapped.

James was held out after hurting his back while scoring a season-best 42 points in a 110-99 win over Golden State on Thursday. Irving, meanwhile, remained in Cleveland with a strained left shoulder.

"Hopefully we'll have (Irving) back soon," coach David Blatt said. "We just have to see how he responds to the treatment, but it's not too serious so that's good."

Matthew Dellavedova had 14 points, a career-high 10 rebounds and five assists while starting in place of Irving and is expected to get another one Sunday.

"We missed them," he said. "But it was experience for everyone, and I think we'll be better for it."

With James expected to return, the Cavaliers will attempt to end a seven-game losing streak at Houston and earn only their eighth victory in 52 visits.

The Rockets have taken the past five overall meetings and won 105-93 in Cleveland on Jan. 7. James was in the midst of missing eight straight games because of back and knee problems.

Irving had 38 points and was one of only three Cavaliers in double figures. Dwight Howard had a season-high 19 rebounds - eight in the fourth quarter - for the Rockets but is out indefinitely because of an ailing right knee.

The Rockets are 10-4 without their superstar and will seek to sweep their five-game homestand. They haven't won five straight overall since opening the season 6-0 and another win would pull them within 1 1/2 games of Memphis in the Southwest Division.

The Cavaliers can move back in front of Chicago for the Central Division lead with a win Sunday and a Bulls loss to the Los Angeles Clippers earlier in the day.

Terrence Jones had a season-high 26 points and 12 rebounds in Houston's 102-98 victory over Brooklyn on Friday. James Harden provided 15 points and 12 assists - his second-most this season - despite dealing with a sprained right ankle suffered in a 110-105 win against the Clippers on Wednesday.

Jones has played just 15 games because of a bout of nerve inflammation in his left leg.

"The beauty of this team is that we've been good battling adversity all year," Harden said. "This is another case where we didn't let it get to us, we just stayed relaxed and made the right plays down the stretch."

James is averaging 30.2 points in his last six games against Houston. His teams have gone 7-1 in his last eight matchups with the Rockets.

Kevin Love is averaging 29.5 points in his last four games in Houston and shooting 58.3 percent, including 11 for 22 from 3-point range.

Harden missed 12 of 18 shots in Cleveland in January and finished with 21 points. He had a combined 65 points and made 19 of 32 attempts (59.4 percent) in his prior two matchups.
