KEY GAME INFORMATION
BOSTON: GUARDS: RAJON RONDO's name is etched on the trading block. Regardless of where he lands, his injured knee should be 100 percent healthy . . . With an improved three-point shot, AVERY BRADLEY has become a complete player. His defense guarantees minutes regardless . . . MARCUS SMART seems to be waiting in the wings for a Rondo trade. In the meantime, he'll back up both guard spots. Just like in college, he'll be brilliant at times, but inconsistent . . . Local product PHIL PRESSEY will stick around as a No. 3 point guard . . . EVAN TURNER was a disaster in Indy. He'll have a tough time making this rotation . . . MARCUS THORNTON was acquired as a trade throw-in. The Celtics don't have big plans for the remorseless gunner. FORWARDS: He's isn't a legitimate No. 1 option, but JEFF GREEN will be the go-to guy again. He hasn't been able to handle the extra defensive attention, becoming increasingly inefficient . . . He has plenty of limitations on both ends of the court, but JARED SULLINGER is a crafty scorer. He'll get close to starter minutes as the Celtics search for offense . . . BRANDON BASS will see time at the 4 and the 5. He's made a pledge to improve offensively, but more likely he'll be a defensive presence and a screen-setter . . . JAMES YOUNG missed most of the summer healing a neck injury. He's going to do some damage running the floor, but he doesn't have the skills for the half-court game in the NBA . . . GERALD WALLACE is playing out the string. CENTERS: KELLY OLYNYK has the most upside in this frontcourt. His rare mobility and skill set for a 7-footer made a difference last year. It's just a question of whether he can hold up defensively down low . . . TYLER ZELLER gives them another solid 7-footer who opposing defenses have to account for. He'll fit well in head coach Brad Stevens' system . . . JOEL ANTHONY isn't going to get off the bench.
GOLDEN STATE: GUARDS: New head coach Steve Kerr doesn't figure to tweak this system much, so expect STEPHEN CURRY to keep doing his thing. He's added elite playmaking skills to his already outstanding deep shooting . . . The Warriors are reluctant to part with KLAY THOMPSON in part because of his three-point shooting, but mostly because of his defensive value alongside Curry . . . SHAUN LIVINGSTON will back up both guard spots. He's also the only proven point guard on the roster besides Curry . . . BRANDON RUSH will look to revive his career in Oakland. He'll have to prove his knees are healthy enough before he earns a rotation spot . . . It's a make or break year already for NEMANJA NEDOVIC, who was severely overmatched as a rookie. FORWARDS: ANDRE IGUODALA is a defensive specialist and no more than a role player on offense. His main job is to take some of the playmaking duties away from Curry . . . Kerr seems resigned to the fact that he's stuck with DAVID LEE. He has some value on offense, but remains one of the league's worst defensive frontcourt players. Expect him to lose some minutes under Kerr . . . HARRISON BARNES will play a bit of power forward in some small lineups, but mostly he'll play a wing spot. Barnes will have to regain his confidence early if he's going to be an impact sixth man . . . Kerr has hinted at a bigger role for DRAYMOND GREEN, who will play some stretch-4 this year . . . MARREESE SPEIGHTS gives them an offense-only big man off the bench. CENTERS: Kerr has hinted at a bigger offensive role for ANDREW BOGUT. But monitoring the Aussie's minutes may be the bigger goal, to ensure he's actually available for the postseason . . . Back-up center FESTUS EZELI should be ready to return from his knee injury, though he was having shin problems during Summer League.

*Celtics-Warriors Preview* ==========================

By NOEY KUPCHAN STATS Writer

Boston (15-26) at Golden State (35-6), 8:00 p.m. EDT

While Klay Thompson may have gotten used to playing in Stephen Curry's shadow, he's going to have a hard time staying out of the spotlight going forward.

Thompson looks to build on a once-in-a-lifetime performance as the Golden State Warriors try to extend their franchise-record 18-game home winning streak Sunday night against the Boston Celtics.

Thompson dominated the headlines after putting together the highest-scoring quarter in NBA history, scoring 37 points in the third in Friday's 126-101 win over Sacramento. The fourth-year guard made all 13 shots - including nine from 3-point range - and both free throws during those 12 minutes, surpassing the 33-point mark set by George Gervin in 1978 and matched by Carmelo Anthony in 2008.

"I was one of the luckiest NBA players ever to play with Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan, David Robinson and some of the greatest players ever," coach Steve Kerr said. "As many spectacular things as Michael did, which he did nightly, I never saw him do that.

"It was reminiscent of Michael, because it was sort of otherworldly."

Thompson, who also set the league record for most 3s in a quarter, finished with a career-high 52 points while shooting 16 of 25. He's averaging 22.6 points, just behind Curry's team-leading 22.8.

"It was kind of a blur. I wish I could go back and enjoy it some more, but moments like that go by really fast," said Thompson, who's scored 32.0 points per game over the last five. "You always dream about it, being a big-time scorer and a big-time player. It's crazy it's reality."

NBA-leading Golden State (35-6) is just the 10th team to win at least 35 games by the midway point. It's compiled a 20-1 home record after winning 18 in a row there by an average of 18.9 points.

The Warriors lead the league with 111.1 points per game and 114.8 at home. They are 13-0 against Eastern Conference foes.

That doesn't bode well for the Celtics (15-26), who are seeking a season best-tying third consecutive victory. Boston had dropped 24 consecutive road games against the West before squeaking by Portland 90-89 on Thursday and Denver 100-99 on Friday.

"It's great from a progress standpoint," coach Brad Stevens said. "Hopefully you can build off this. ... They're both close games, they're one-point games. They both came down to the last shot. As history suggests, this is a difficult game to get on the second of a back-to-back."

Avery Bradley scored eight of his 18 points over the final 3:29 against the Nuggets while Brandon Bass finished with 17. Bradley has scored at least 17 in six of the last seven road games.

Kelly Olynyk was sent back home to have his badly sprained right ankle examined, leaving the Celtics without their third leading scorer at 11.1 points per game. Boston will also be without rookie Marcus Smart due to a death in his family.

Golden State took both matchups against the Celtics last season. Curry made a tiebreaking jumper with 4 seconds left in a 99-97 home victory Jan. 10, and the Warriors easily won 108-88 in Boston on March 5.

The Celtics have dropped 14 of their last 18 visits to the Bay Area.

Curry is averaging 15.0 points in eight career games in the series, his lowest mark against any team. Thompson is averaging 15.8 on 38.3 percent shooting in the last four meetings.
