| |  | WASHINGTON: GUARDS: JOHN WALL hasn't developed much diversity in his offensive game, but he's still really fast and an effective distributor. The improved supporting cast should help him reach the next level, assuming he feels no ill effects from the stress injury in his left knee that will keep him out until late November . . . BRADLEY BEAL is a great shooter, but he can also score off the dribble. Throw in his rebounding ability from the backcourt, and he should contribute in a number of ways as a rookie . . . JORDAN CRAWFORD is a pure scorer, but not an efficient one. He won't be able to hold off Beal for long, if at all . . . A.J. PRICE steps in as Wall's top backup. He'll play limited minutes with the second unit . . . SHELVIN MACK will be battling for a roster spot, most likely with underachieving swingman MARTELL WEBSTER. FORWARDS: TREVOR ARIZA should have no trouble stepping into the starting lineup. He'll at least have a chance to re-find his three-point shot getting drive-and-dish feeds from Wall . . . Nene^ will slide to the four with Emeka Okafor coming in. That means athletic, but raw, JAN VESELY will have to play with the second unit. He can really run the floor, but doesn't help much in the half-court game . . . TREVOR BOOKER is a very good screener on offense who holds his own defensively and on the boards. He still has a chance for a handful of starts if Nene^ or Okafor get hurt . . . CHRIS SINGLETON started a lot of games last year, but the defensive specialist will likely spend this season learning behind Ariza . . . CARTIER MARTIN never saw a shot he didn't like. CENTERS: NENE^ had some trouble with plantar fasciitis last year and playing in the Olympics didn't help. If healthy, he has a chance to be Washington's leading scorer . . . EMEKA OKAFOR will start alongside Nene^. He's the fifth-best option on offense, but holds his own defensively . . . KEVIN SERAPHIN has proven he can hold down a starting job. He'll come off the bench but should still have a significant role. | | GOLDEN STATE: GUARDS: STEPHEN CURRY is this offense's engine and a stat-stuffing machine, as long as he's healthy. His ankle should be healed, but his small frame hasn't proven to be up to the rigors of the NBA . . . KLAY THOMPSON is a pure shooter who played himself into a starting job last year. He's a bit one-dimensional, but this spread, up-tempo offense is right up his alley . . . JARRETT JACK will back up both guard spots and provide some insurance for the fragile Curry . . . BRANDON RUSH is going to push for a starting job, but he's never proven to be more than a second-unit talent . . . As a rookie, CHARLES JENKINS proved worthy of a roster spot during his late-season audition. But he'll be looking at a lot of DNP-CDs as long as Curry and Jack are healthy. FORWARDS: DAVID LEE's touches will drop alongside Andrew Bogut. The Warriors seem prepared to give him major minutes despite his defensive shortcomings . . . HARRISON BARNES should push for a starting job early. He's not a great iso player, but the Warriors' offense should set him up with catch-and-score opportunities . . . CARL LANDRY is active around the basket and should do some damage over 20 MPG . . . RICHARD JEFFERSON is going to be in a mentor role until his contract expires in two years . . . JEREMY TYLER is young and a borderline usable big off the bench . . . Second-rounder DRAYMOND GREEN isn't an athlete but does a bit of everything. He figures to have a limited role as a rookie. CENTERS: His fractured ankle is not quite 100 percent, but ANDREW BOGUT hopes to be healed enough when the season starts to be the centerpiece of the frontcourt. He can rebound and defend, and he'll get his share of easy scoring opportunities with so many shooters spreading the floor . . . The Warriors seem content to let ANDRIS BIEDRINS rot on the bench . . . Rookie FESTUS EZELI is too raw offensively to see significant minutes. |

The Golden State Warriors will get plenty of games at Oracle Arena during the final push for their first playoff berth in six seasons.
The Warriors will try to begin that home-heavy stretch by adding to their recent success against the Washington Wizards on Saturday night.
Golden State (39-31) is currently sixth in the Western Conference, 4 1/2 games ahead of ninth-place Utah. The Warriors get the benefit of a five-game homestand as they try to secure a spot in the postseason for the first time since 2007 and only the second time since 1994.
They'll play eight of their next nine games and nine of their final 12 contests in Oakland, where they've gone 22-10 this season.
"It's a great opportunity to put together a string of wins, but we're playing against some teams that are more than capable of coming in here and winning," coach Mark Jackson said. "It'll be a great chance to separate ourselves a little more."
Golden State will try to do that with its fifth straight win over Washington (25-43). The Warriors took advantage of Wizards star point guard John Wall's absence for a 101-97 road victory Dec. 8.
David Lee had 24 points and 17 rebounds while Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry also topped 20 points. Curry's four free throws in the final 15 seconds helped seal that win.
Washington, however, is 20-15 since Wall's return from a knee injury on Jan. 12 and has won five of its last six, including an impressive 103-100 road win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday.
"They're playing much better. A healthy John Wall will do that for you," Jackson said. "It's a team that's playing very well right now. ... To be young and out of (playoff contention), you got to give them credit. They're finishing it the right way."
Wall had 24 points and a career-high 16 assists against the Lakers, and Trevor Ariza hit a personal-best seven 3-pointers en route to scoring 25 points.
The victory gave the Wizards their first back-to-back road wins this season. They trailed by as many as 18 points in the third quarter, but outscored Los Angeles 62-43 in the second half.
"We just knew what our team was, we're one of the top defensive teams and when we play defense and play the right way, we have a chance," Wall said. "We just have a lot of heart and character."
The Warriors are coming off a road trip that would have been perfect if not for a 104-93 loss to San Antonio on Wednesday. With 24 points, Curry was the only player to score more than 14 for Golden State, which won its other two games on the trek by a combined 51 points.
The Wizards have lost four of their last five in Oakland, although they haven't visited in nearly two years since a 114-104 loss March 27, 2011.
Lee had 33 points on 15-of-26 shooting for the Warriors in that game and is averaging 22.1 while hitting 56.8 percent from the field in his last 11 contests versus Washington.
