KEY GAME INFORMATION
CHARLOTTE: GUARDS: RAMON SESSIONS will have to adjust to a major downgrade in teammates, but he has the kind of versatile offensive skill set to be the focal point of this offense . . . The athletic GERALD HENDERSON has made strides the past two seasons. Realistically, his offensive skills are those of a No. 4 or 5 option . . . Coach Mike Dunlap is high on KEMBA WALKER, who was sometimes overwhelmed as a rookie. With a few new sets built in for him, he could thrive as a sixth man getting starter's minutes . . . BEN GORDON won't overtake Henderson, but should see big minutes as the Cats' only shooter . . . REGGIE WILLIAMS is a D-League talent . . . MATT CARROLL, in the final year of his $27 million deal, symbolizes everything that's gone wrong under Michael Jordan. FORWARDS: Drafting MICHAEL KIDD-GILCHRIST was as much about changing the losing culture as it was adding a piece they needed. MKG's statistical output is a question mark, but he'll see big minutes as a defensive stopper and intangibles guy . . . This team is seriously lacking in the post, where they may have no choice but to play TYRUS THOMAS for significant minutes. The talented but uber-underachieving big man claims to have added 20 pounds of muscle in the offseason. If nothing else, they might showcase him in a desperate attempt to get some trade value . . . Rookie JEFFERY TAYLOR figures to make the team and has the versatility and athleticism to be a respectable second-unit guy. CENTERS: Charlotte sees BISMACK BIYOMBO as a franchise cornerstone. He can certainly rebound and block shots, but his offense is atrocious . . . BRENDAN HAYWOOD brings a veteran presence. At his age he can't go more than 15 or so minutes per night . . . BYRON MULLENS never saw a shot he didn't like. He'll get one more chance to prove he's an NBA rotation player, able to play the four or five . . . DeSAGANA DIOP is doing those things that DeSagana Diop does.
DETROIT: GUARDS: RODNEY STUCKEY was hampered by nagging injuries a year ago. If he's healthy, he's the best offensive weapon they have . . . BRANDON KNIGHT is more of a combo guard running the point. He can shoot, but doesn't bring much else to the table . . . With Ben Gordon gone, WILL BYNUM has a chance to regain a significant role . . . The Pistons' two second-round picks have a chance to carve out big roles. KIM ENGLISH has a skill set similar to Gordon's, capable of heating up and scoring in bunches . . . KHRIS MIDDLETON is more of a spot-up, catch-and-shoot threat only . . . Former No. 6 overall pick JONNY FLYNN agreed to a non-guaranteed contract in October, as he is no guarantee to even make this sorry roster. FORWARDS: TAYSHAUN PRINCE is still hanging on as the Pistons' best all-around player . . . JASON MAXIELL should be able to reclaim his starting spot early. He rebounds and takes up space . . . JONAS JEREBKO showed flashes but looked rusty in his first year back from an Achilles injury . . . 2011 2nd-rounder KYLE SINGLER has a good chance to step into the rotation after a solid year in Spain . . . COREY MAGGETTE was acquired in a Ben Gordon salary dump. He'll see limited minutes . . . AUSTIN DAYE regressed big-time last year. Unless he gets off to a hot start, he'll be on the outside looking in at the rotation . . . TERRENCE WILLIAMS is seeking a new lease on life, but could be too much of a head case to realize he's wasting his talent . . . The Pistons are counting down the days left on CHARLIE VILLANUEVA's contract (two years). CENTERS: GREG MONROE is a solid fit in Frank's system. He's not a great athlete, but he can score and move the ball on offense, as well as rebound . . . ANDRE DRUMMOND could one day be a perfect fit alongside Monroe. But for now, he'll watch and learn as a raw, boom-or-bust prospect . . . VIACHESLAV KRAVTSOV is an athletic big who will bring energy, but little offense in limited minutes.

*Bobcats-Pistons Preview* =========================

By JEFF BARTL STATS Writer

Charlotte (18-60) at Detroit (27-52), 7:30 p.m. EDT

It may not seem like much, but earning a third straight victory would be a major stride for a Detroit Pistons team concluding another disappointing season.

The Charlotte Bobcats are hoping to salvage some pride as well.

Detroit seeks an eighth victory in nine meetings with Charlotte, which looks to avoid a franchise-record 14th consecutive road loss in its final game away from home Friday night.

The Pistons (27-52) will take part in their fourth consecutive draft lottery, and it's been widely rumored coach Lawrence Frank is on the hot seat. They're not throwing in the towel just yet though, having won back-to-back games for the first time since Feb. 8-9 after defeating Chicago 99-85 on Sunday and Cleveland 111-104 on Wednesday.

Andre Drummond scored a career-high 29 points and added 11 rebounds, while Greg Monroe finished with 23 points against the Cavaliers.

"These are the guys we're building around, and we've got to fight for them," said Frank, whose team's only winning streak of at least three games was a four-game run Dec. 28-Jan. 4. "I have confidence in them."

Drummond, a 36.5 percent free-throw shooter, went 9 of 17 from the line as Cleveland intentionally fouled him.

"I knew I needed to make them for us to win, so I just focused at the line," Drummond said. "It gave me a chance to work on my free throws."

Detroit has been working through plenty of struggles during a season that includes a 10-game losing streak. That skid came to an end with a 92-91 win March 23 over Charlotte (18-60), which owns the NBA's worst record.

The Bobcats have scored fewer than 80 points twice during a three-game losing streak, including 94-75 at Memphis on Tuesday.

There's also been rumors first-year coach Mike Dunlap could be let go due to a lack of progress after the team set a record for the lowest winning percentage in league history (.106) during the 2011-12 lockout-shortened season.

Kemba Walker scored a team-high 19 points Tuesday for Charlotte, which is shooting 39.2 percent over its last four games and is simply hoping to finish the season on a high note.

"I just like the fact our guys are holding onto the rope and playing a good brand of basketball," Dunlap said. "We just have to do a good job of coming down the back stretch and that's kind of been the issue all along. But a lot of credit goes to the guys in the locker room coming in and playing this brand of basketball."

Charlotte, averaging 87.5 points and shooting 41.4 percent during the 13-game road skid, finishes with three home games. It must split its last four to avoid winning fewer than 20 games in a full 82-game season for the first time since it went 18-64 in its inaugural campaign of 2004-05.

The Bobcats are 6-34 on the road, but they posted a 108-101 overtime victory at Detroit on Jan. 6 as Walker scored 20 points and Bismack Biyombo added a career-high 17 rebounds.

Since that victory, Charlotte has gone 0-23 on the road versus teams other than Orlando.
