| |  | TORONTO: GUARDS: KYLE LOWRY is healthy again and will be handed the reigns. He could be the Raptors best player on both ends of the floor . . . As of now, JOSE CALDERON is still on the roster, but he's not long for Toronto with Lowry's arrival. He won't start over Lowry, but he could see decent minutes as the Raptors attempt to showcase him . . . With Toronto's influx of new talent, DeMAR DeROZAN could be marginalized on the offensive end. He hasn't really progressed past the dunker/raw athlete stage of his career . . . Rookie TERRENCE ROSS can just about match DeRozan's athleticism, and while he has no handle, he's a potentially deadly three-point threat . . . JOHN LUCAS III will back up both guard spots . . . ALAN ANDERSON returns as a defensive stopper in the second unit. FORWARDS: ANDREA BARGNANI makes his triumphant return and will likely go back to the perimeter. The Raptors have beefed up in the middle so Bargnani can play outside more . . . LANDRY FIELDS plays enough defense to earn minutes, but it seems like his signing was more a result of Toronto playing cap games to try to land Steve Nash. He'll likely platoon with Terrence Ross . . . ED DAVIS made some strides this offseason, but he's still not where the Raptors want him to be on the offensive end . . . LINAS KLEIZA's knee should be in better shape this season. The Raptors want more shooting, and he has a chance to grab a bigger role . . . Toronto will do everything it can to get out from under AMIR JOHNSON's contract . . . DOMINIC McGUIRE figures to occupy the final seat on the Raptors bench. CENTERS: JONAS VALANCIUNAS would have been the No. 2 pick of the draft had he come out a year later. He's a wiry, strong athlete who's physical down low with soft touch out to 10 feet. Toronto sees him as a franchise cornerstone who meshes nicely with Bargnani . . . AARON GRAY should provide ample competition for the starting center job. | | DETROIT: GUARDS: RODNEY STUCKEY was hampered by nagging injuries a year ago. If he's healthy, he's the best offensive weapon they have . . . BRANDON KNIGHT is more of a combo guard running the point. He can shoot, but doesn't bring much else to the table . . . With Ben Gordon gone, WILL BYNUM has a chance to regain a significant role . . . The Pistons' two second-round picks have a chance to carve out big roles. KIM ENGLISH has a skill set similar to Gordon's, capable of heating up and scoring in bunches . . . KHRIS MIDDLETON is more of a spot-up, catch-and-shoot threat only . . . Former No. 6 overall pick JONNY FLYNN agreed to a non-guaranteed contract in October, as he is no guarantee to even make this sorry roster. FORWARDS: TAYSHAUN PRINCE is still hanging on as the Pistons' best all-around player . . . JASON MAXIELL should be able to reclaim his starting spot early. He rebounds and takes up space . . . JONAS JEREBKO showed flashes but looked rusty in his first year back from an Achilles injury . . . 2011 2nd-rounder KYLE SINGLER has a good chance to step into the rotation after a solid year in Spain . . . COREY MAGGETTE was acquired in a Ben Gordon salary dump. He'll see limited minutes . . . AUSTIN DAYE regressed big-time last year. Unless he gets off to a hot start, he'll be on the outside looking in at the rotation . . . TERRENCE WILLIAMS is seeking a new lease on life, but could be too much of a head case to realize he's wasting his talent . . . The Pistons are counting down the days left on CHARLIE VILLANUEVA's contract (two years). CENTERS: GREG MONROE is a solid fit in Frank's system. He's not a great athlete, but he can score and move the ball on offense, as well as rebound . . . ANDRE DRUMMOND could one day be a perfect fit alongside Monroe. But for now, he'll watch and learn as a raw, boom-or-bust prospect . . . VIACHESLAV KRAVTSOV is an athletic big who will bring energy, but little offense in limited minutes. |

The Detroit Pistons are stumbling toward the end of another non-playoff season.
The Toronto Raptors are following a similar path.
Detroit tries to end a seven-game home losing streak and earn its second win overall this month when it takes on the sinking Raptors, who will face former teammate Jose Calderon for the first time Friday night.
The Pistons (24-48) are 1-11 in March and 2-14 in their last 16, and they've been overwhelmed during their home skid, getting outscored by an average of 103.1-86.6.
Detroit was showered with boos while falling 105-82 to Minnesota on Tuesday, the fifth time during the home slide that it managed 82 or fewer points.
"We deserved everything we got tonight," Frank said. "We've got 24 wins and not many games left. The fans that were out here tonight are the hardcore loyalists, and we need to give them a better product. They have every right to boo us right now."
The Pistons last dropped eight in a row at home Dec. 30, 2000-Feb. 2, 2001. However, they've won four straight against the Raptors in Detroit, taking the most recent meeting there 91-90 on Nov. 23.
Toronto (26-45) evened the season series and ended a three-game skid in the overall series with a 97-91 victory Dec. 19 behind 23 points from DeMar DeRozan and 17 assists from Calderon.
The point guard, who spent his first seven-plus seasons with the Raptors, was acquired by the Pistons in a three-team deal Jan. 30 that sent Rudy Gay from Memphis to Toronto.
The Raptors won seven of 10 following Gay's arrival, but they've lost 12 of 15 since in what will be their fifth consecutive season of not making the playoffs.
There was talk of shutting Gay down for the season after he injured his back last Friday against New York and then missed Saturday's finale of the home-and-home with the Knicks. However, he should be able to go after returning Wednesday and scoring 15 points with a season high-tying 12 rebounds in a 107-88 loss to Atlanta.
Toronto, though, could be without forward Amir Johnson. If that's the case, coach Dwane Casey is hoping the team handles it better than it did Wednesday when it was outscored 55-29 after Johnson left in the third quarter with a left leg contusion.
"We didn't respond when they got physical," Casey said.
That could be a problem against Pistons center Greg Monroe, who has been at his best when facing the Raptors this season, totaling 54 points and 21 rebounds. He scored a career-high 35 and grabbed 10 boards Dec. 19.
Pistons rookie forward Andre Drummond, who had his first double-double Nov. 23 with 13 points and 13 rebounds, could play for the first time since Feb. 6 after being out with a stress fracture in his back.
