KEY GAME INFORMATION
UTAH: GUARDS: TREY BURKE is likely the lead guard here, though it's really by default. He doesn't have the athleticism to make a lot of plays in the lane, and will have to rely on difficult shot-making . . . He continues to steadily improve, and there could be a bigger role available for ALEC BURKS. He'll have to develop a more consistent three-point shot before he really breaks out though . . . DANTE EXUM is an electrifying athlete, but he's making an enormous jump from essentially high school ball in Australia. He could be a gem in the long run, but don't expect him to do much as a rookie . . . TOURE' MURRY will likely play some garbage minutes. FORWARDS: He ascended to the alpha role in Utah, but GORDON HAYWARD had some struggles with the extra defensive attention. He should improve somewhat, as he knows what's coming, and has added a runner to his repertoire . . . DERRICK FAVORS will play more at the 4-spot this season, and he has the strength to power his way to easy baskets. He's a potential double-double guy . . . RODNEY HOOD had an up-and-down year at Duke despite his physical gifts. He has an NBA-caliber combination of size and athleticism, but right now he's a streaky shooter with a lot of rough edges on his game . . . TREVOR BOOKER is a solid second-unit big man, a defensive bruiser and good screener on offense . . . JEREMY EVANS can dunk, but provides little else . . . STEVE NOVAK will never be a full-time player, but he's still one of the league's elite shooters. CENTERS: He was disappointing last season, but ENES KANTER still has some upside on the offensive end of the floor. How he and Favors will mesh is yet to be seen . . . RUDY GOBERT is a shot-blocking fool, but still ultra-raw
DENVER: GUARDS: TY LAWSON is the facilitator in Denver's up-tempo offense. Durability is a concern, as he missed 15-plus games for the third time in five career seasons during the 2013-14 campaign . . . ARRON AFFLALO is what the Nuggets need. He'll be a No. 3 scorer and, more importantly, gives them a big defensive upgrade . . . Denver can't afford to play RANDY FOYE so many minutes. He's a serviceable reserve, but they won't win games if he's playing 30-plus minutes . . . The Afflalo acquisition blocks him, but GARY HARRIS is tough-nosed on defense and a solid deep threat . . . NATE ROBINSON might unseat Foye for the sixth-man role by midseason, but first he'll have to work his way back from a torn ACL . . . Combo guard ERICK GREEN will pick up garbage-time minutes. FORWARDS: KENNETH FARIED is one of the few bright spots in Denver. He can't generate his own offense, but he's effective filling lanes and picking up garbage points in this system . . . If he's ever 100 percent healthy again, DANILO GALLINARI will be the go-to scorer on this team. But he's a question mark after missing all of last season with a torn ACL . . . WILSON CHANDLER won't be relied on as heavily this season, but he's going to get major minutes as a floor spacer who can play the 2-guard or either forward spot . . . Stretch-4 DARRELL ARTHUR is a solid rotation guy when he's shooting well, but he was laying bricks last season . . . QUINCY MILLER has intriguing athleticism, but remains a raw project . . . Even if he wasn't coming off a torn ACL, J.J. HICKSON would not make this rotation. CENTERS: TIMOFEY MOZGOV may have grabbed the lead in this center-by-committee group with his strong finish to last season . . . A stress fracture cost JaVALE McGEE his chance to secure a full-time role last season. The tantalizing, but consistently disappointing, big man should make the rotation, but has an uphill battle to earn minutes . . . JUSUF NURKIC is a high-upside project as a 7-footer with a legit NBA offensive skill set.

*Jazz-Nuggets Preview* ======================

By NOEY KUPCHAN STATS Writer

Utah (21-35) at Denver (20-37), 9:00 p.m. EDT

While Denver hasn't been kind to visitors in years past, the Nuggets haven't won at Pepsi Center in over six weeks.

The Nuggets try to snap their longest home losing streak in 17 years Friday night against the Utah Jazz.

Denver has gone an NBA-worst 2-17 since Jan. 16, including 0-8 at home while allowing an average of 110.9 points. The Nuggets, who haven't won on their own court since beating Dallas 114-107 on Jan. 14, are mired in their longest home skid since dropping a franchise-worst 11 straight Dec. 16-Jan. 29, 1998.

Denver compiled a 213-66 home record over the previous seven seasons for the NBA's second-best mark during that time.

"There's a lot of pressure (to win at home)," coach Brian Shaw said. "What happens is guys start to look forward to playing on the road because the home crowd starts to get antsy and they start to get on us, especially if it seems like we're not hustling and coming up with the loose balls and things of that nature."

The Nuggets (20-37) saw their woes continue Wednesday in a 110-96 loss to Phoenix. They were limited to 38.3 percent shooting and outrebounded 65-40, including 23-10 on the offensive glass.

"We've been having a hard time knocking down shots," Shaw said. "The rebounding edge, those are the hustle things that you have to do at home that we haven't been doing. ... They wanted it more than we did and they went after it and they got it. Until we change that, the result is not going to change."

The Nuggets could get a boost with leading rebounder Kenneth Faried (thumb) and fellow forward Wilson Chandler (groin) likely to return. However, Denver will be without center Jusuf Nurkic (ankle), and Darrell Arthur (knee) is listed as doubtful after both big men were hurt Wednesday.

The Nuggets are seeking a third consecutive victory and sixth in eight meetings against the Jazz after winning 103-101 in Utah on Dec. 1. Ty Lawson had 15 points and 12 assists as seven players scored in double figures for Denver, which managed to escape after blowing a 22-point lead.

Utah (21-35) had won four of five before closing a three-game homestand with Wednesday's 100-97 loss to the last-place Los Angeles Lakers. Gordon Hayward had 20 points and Rudy Gobert added a career high-tying 16 and 14 rebounds, but the Jazz had 21 turnovers and 18 assists.

Utah took a nine-point lead into the fourth quarter before getting outscored 31-19.

"We just were weak. Weak-minded," coach Quin Snyder said. "I don't think we just rolled over. It wasn't like there wasn't any intensity. We couldn't finish.

"You have to understand how the game's being played and respond to it. Your level has to go up. .. They were the more aggressive team."

The Jazz are 26th in the league with 94.1 points per game on the road, where they've compiled a 3-13 record against fellow Western Conference opponents. They have dropped seven of nine on the road overall.

Hayward, averaging a team-high 19.6 points, has scored 25.0 per game his last four against the Nuggets.

Faried is averaging 15.7 points on 60.2 percent shooting and 10.0 boards over a 10-game stretch in the series.
