KEY GAME INFORMATION
BOSTON: GUARDS: RAJON RONDO is the last man standing in Boston. Coming off a torn ACL and with a weakened supporting cast, it's going to be a long year . . . AVERY BRADLEY is the favorite to start alongside Rondo. He's still lost on offense, but his defense will be much needed . . . COURTNEY LEE continues to tease with flashes of talent, but hasn't shown consistency and is no longer 'young' . . . JORDAN CRAWFORD will hoist a lot of shots . . . MARSHON BROOKS fell out of favor in Brooklyn and is just hanging on to an NBA roster spot . . . KEITH BOGANS is in Boston because a new deal made the numbers work on the Nets trade . . . Local product PHIL PRESSEY, an undersized point guard, will try to stick as a back-up. FORWARDS: Suddenly, JEFF GREEN is Boston's first option on offense. He showed an ability to score with 20.1 PPG over 17 starts last season, but he'll be in for a whole new world of attention as the only legitimate scorer on this team . . . BRANDON BASS should continue to hold down the power forward spot, and he'll get to take more shots with the team rebuilding . . . Durability is a major issue for JARED SULLINGER, but he has a chance to play big minutes for a team in need of his offensive skill set . . . A washed-up vet with arguably the worst contract in the NBA, GERALD WALLACE is of little use to the Celtics (or any other team) . . . KRIS HUMPHRIES is also dead weight, but is a more enticing trade chip due to an expiring contract. CENTERS: Rookie KELLY OLYNYK is going to get pushed around, but he has some rare shooting and ball-handling skills for a 7-footer. Boston has little to lose by letting him learn on the job . . . VITOR FAVERANI is a tough-nosed Euro import who gives them insurance behind Olynyk.
DALLAS: GUARDS: MONTA ELLIS slides into the 2-guard spot vacated by O.J. Mayo. He should benefit from the attention Dirk Nowitzki gets and from playing alongside a pure point guard . . . JOSE CALDERON is a defensive liability, but he should have the Mavs' offense running more smoothly . . . VINCE CARTER has become one of the league's better sixth men. He'll see plenty of minutes for a team that figures to frequently play small ball . . . When healthy, DEVIN HARRIS should be the defensive side of a platoon with Calderon . . . Israeli star GAL MEKEL should be able to help at both guard spots on a part-time basis . . . WAYNE ELLINGTON has yet to prove he can do anything with second-unit minutes . . . After breaking his foot, SHANE LARKIN is looking at a redshirt year. FORWARDS: Last season was a bit of a lost season for DIRK NOWITZKI, who missed the beginning of the year after knee surgery and didn't get going until late. Health, as well as the arrival of a true point guard in Jose Calderon, should allow him to bounce back nicely . . . SHAWN MARION had a nice resurgence last season, and he should have at least one good season left as he plays for another contract . . . JAE CROWDER has a chance to establish himself as the heir apparent to Marion. He's a hustle guy right now, and whether he can be more will depend on whether he develops his jump shot . . . RICKY LEDO was a favorite NBA draft sleeper for many experts. But while the skilled wing has NBA talent, he also has a reputation for being a bad seed. Ledo is almost certainly headed to the D-League for now. CENTERS: SAMUEL DALEMBERT is a sad consolation prize in the Dwight Howard derby. He'll likely step in as a starter . . . BRANDAN WRIGHT has never been able to overcome injuries. He could end up splitting time with Dalembert . . . DEJUAN BLAIR will provide energy and offense at the four and five . . . BERNARD JAMES should continue to develop as a rim protector.

*Celtics-Mavericks Preview* ===========================

By ALAN FERGUSON STATS Writer

Boston (22-44) at Dallas (39-27), 8:30 p.m. EDT

It's been more than a month since the Dallas Mavericks beat the Boston Celtics as part of a successful stretch.

Locked in a competitive Western Conference playoff race, the Mavericks are hoping to keep another strong stretch going by sweeping the season series over struggling Boston on Monday night.

Dallas (40-27) earned one of its 10 wins in a 12-game span Feb. 9 in Boston, and will try to pick up its fifth in six contests as it faces the Celtics again. After dropping the opener to a three-game trip, the Mavericks responded with pair of wins, including a lopsided one over the second-place club in the Western Conference on Sunday.

Shawn Marion's 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting led a balanced effort in a 109-86 rout of Oklahoma City. Dallas had five players in double figures and four with at least 16 points while shooting 53.3 percent.

Dallas has shot better than 53.0 percent and hit 13 3-pointers in each of its two wins. Those victories have kept the Mavericks one-half game ahead of eighth-place Memphis in the West and 1 1/2 in front of ninth-place Phoenix.

"It's a game we needed," coach Rick Carlisle said. "We need every one, the battle that we're in."

Carlisle's club shot 45.1 percent and made 10 3-pointers in the 102-91 road victory over Boston. Dirk Nowitzki had 20 points to lead six players in double figures.

Dallas has won six of seven over the Celtics (22-45) and will try to earn its third series sweep in the last four seasons. The Mavericks have also claimed three consecutive home meetings.

They appear to have a good chance at beating Boston again Monday. The Celtics have dropped four in a row and 11 of 14 after a 121-120 overtime defeat in New Orleans on Sunday.

Kris Humphries gave his club a chance to avoid a sixth consecutive road loss by making a long jumper to force overtime. Boston, though, couldn't recover after falling behind by five with 1:34 to go in the extra session.

"That's a tough one to swallow," forward Jared Sullinger said. "(Humphries) hitting that big shot to send it into overtime, we thought we could win. In the end, we came up short."

Jeff Green got the Celtics within one point with the last of his season high-tying 39 points but time ran out. Green was held to nine on 2-of-14 shooting in an 87-80 home loss to Phoenix on Friday.

"At least we played with better poise at the end of regulation and overtime," coach Brad Stevens said. "We gave ourselves a chance to win on the offensive end. Guys got a couple of stops, just not enough at the end."

Nowitzki is averaging 27.3 points and 10.7 rebounds in his last 12 home games against Boston. Marion has recorded double-doubles in each of his last three overall meetings, and had 11 points and 10 rebounds in last month's victory.
