KEY GAME INFORMATION
BOSTON: GUARDS: RAJON RONDO's name is etched on the trading block. Regardless of where he lands, his injured knee should be 100 percent healthy . . . With an improved three-point shot, AVERY BRADLEY has become a complete player. His defense guarantees minutes regardless . . . MARCUS SMART seems to be waiting in the wings for a Rondo trade. In the meantime, he'll back up both guard spots. Just like in college, he'll be brilliant at times, but inconsistent . . . Local product PHIL PRESSEY will stick around as a No. 3 point guard . . . EVAN TURNER was a disaster in Indy. He'll have a tough time making this rotation . . . MARCUS THORNTON was acquired as a trade throw-in. The Celtics don't have big plans for the remorseless gunner. FORWARDS: He's isn't a legitimate No. 1 option, but JEFF GREEN will be the go-to guy again. He hasn't been able to handle the extra defensive attention, becoming increasingly inefficient . . . He has plenty of limitations on both ends of the court, but JARED SULLINGER is a crafty scorer. He'll get close to starter minutes as the Celtics search for offense . . . BRANDON BASS will see time at the 4 and the 5. He's made a pledge to improve offensively, but more likely he'll be a defensive presence and a screen-setter . . . JAMES YOUNG missed most of the summer healing a neck injury. He's going to do some damage running the floor, but he doesn't have the skills for the half-court game in the NBA . . . GERALD WALLACE is playing out the string. CENTERS: KELLY OLYNYK has the most upside in this frontcourt. His rare mobility and skill set for a 7-footer made a difference last year. It's just a question of whether he can hold up defensively down low . . . TYLER ZELLER gives them another solid 7-footer who opposing defenses have to account for. He'll fit well in head coach Brad Stevens' system . . . JOEL ANTHONY isn't going to get off the bench.
CLEVELAND: GUARDS: KYRIE IRVING will play off the ball more. With defenses keying on LeBron James, Irving should become a more efficient scorer . . . DION WAITERS will start for the Cavaliers at shooting guard. He shows flashes of brilliance on offense, but like Irving, doesn't play defense . . . MIKE MILLER reunites with James as a part-time floor spacer . . . JOE HARRIS' deep shooting makes him a possible long-term replacement for Miller. FORWARDS: LeBRON JAMES is the MVP favorite. He'll fill up the stat sheet while having these Cavaliers in a position to win every single night . . . KEVIN LOVE is one of the game's premier power forwards. He should have plenty of open looks this season, as he plays off of James. He'll also rack up rebounds . . . TRISTAN THOMPSON's switch from shooting left-handed to righty last season went well. He's a solid two-way player who should see time at center as well . . . SHAWN MARION will be a swiss-army knife off the bench for the Cavs. He can do a little bit of everything and will allow James to get a little rest this season. . . JAMES JONES followed James to Cleveland. He'll see minutes in a handful of games as a three-point specialist. CENTERS: ANDERSON VAREJAO stayed relatively healthy last season, and the Cavs will need him considering their thin rotation up front. He never developed much of an offensive game, but his energy, defense and rebounding fit well alongside Thompson and James.

Because of this information, no power rating or computer score edges are posted for this game.

*Celtics-Cavaliers Preview* ===========================

By NOEY KUPCHAN STATS Writer

Boston (23-34) at Cleveland (37-24), 7:00 p.m. EDT

After failing to come through in the clutch, LeBron James is looking to help the Cleveland Cavaliers get back on track.

He probably won't have to do it alone with Kyrie Irving expected to return as the Cavaliers go for a 12th consecutive home win Tuesday night against the Boston Celtics.

Cleveland (37-24) is coming off its first back-to-back defeats since a six-game skid Jan. 4-13, falling 93-86 at Indiana on Friday and 105-103 at Houston in overtime Sunday.

James (back) sat out Friday as a precaution before returning with 37 points against the Rockets. However, it wasn't enough as the four-time MVP was a season-worst 3 of 11 at the foul line, including two misses with 4.2 seconds left in OT and the Cavs down one.

"There is no excuse. I missed free throws," said James, who is 21 of 40 from the line over his last five games. "I missed the two biggest ones of the game to put us up with seconds on the clock and I didn't come through. I failed my teammates."

Kevin Love scored 21 points and Tristan Thompson added 14 and a season-best 19 rebounds for Cleveland, which wasted a 53-36 edge on the glass.

"We win as a team and lose as a team. The game wasn't determined on those two free throws, there were plenty of opportunities," Thompson said. "I think each of us as individuals need to look back and see where we could have done better. It's part of the game, just have to move on to the next one."

The Cavs will be close to full strength with Irving set to return following a two-game absence due to a shoulder injury. The All-Star guard is averaging 21.7 points to rank second on the team behind James' 26.2, the NBA's third-best mark.

They have to like their chances of regrouping at home, where they're outscoring opponents by an average of 14.8 points during their 11-game streak. They haven't won 12 straight on their own court since stringing 16 together Feb. 11-April 12, 2009.

James poured in 41 points and Irving added 27 to help the Cavs escape with a 122-121 win at Boston on Nov. 14, snapping a three-game skid in the series. James, who made what proved to be the winning free throw with 36 seconds to go, is averaging 30.4 points against the Celtics for his highest mark against any team.

Boston (23-34) appeared headed for a season-best fourth consecutive victory before blowing a 26-point lead in Sunday's 106-101 loss to Golden State. Recently acquired Isaiah Thomas had 20 points to lead six players in double figures for the Celtics, who were outscored 31-15 in the fourth quarter.

"I just told the guys in the locker room I have to look at it objectively and subjectively," coach Brad Stevens said. "I think the biggest thing is that it's a disappointing loss, but I really like the guys in our locker room because they're trying to play the right way.

"Hopefully we can keep growing and getting better, but we've got to play better."

Thomas is averaging 21.8 points and 5.8 assists in five games since coming over from Phoenix before the trade deadline. He's the first Celtic to score at least 19 off the bench in at least four consecutive games since Hall of Famer Kevin McHale in 1989-90.
