| |  | ATLANTA: GUARDS: GM Danny Ferry has really talked up JEFF TEAGUE, who will be more of a traditional point guard with Joe Johnson gone . . . DEVIN HARRIS is going to play plenty of minutes, both alongside Teague and off the bench . . . LOU WILLIAMS is a sixth man. He lacks the mentality to run the point and the size to guard opposing twos. His role will be similar to what it was in Philly . . . KYLE KORVER and ANTHONY MORROW are pure shooters who do little else. They can play the three in a pinch, and the hot hand will get the minutes . . . Coach Larry Drew could call on DeSHAWN STEVENSON for the occasional defense-heavy lineup. More likely, he'll rack up the DNP-CDs . . . JOHN JENKINS might be the best shooter in the rookie class, but he'll be buried on the depth chart. FORWARDS: JOSH SMITH rescinded his trade demand, perhaps because he'll now be the focal point of the offense. He was more aggressive on both ends of the floor last year. As long as he resists the urge to float on the perimeter, he should emerge as an All-Star . . . Considering the makeup of this roster, Atlanta will utilize a lot of three-guard lineups. Korver and Morrow can stretch a defense from that third guard/small forward spot, with Stevenson stepping in as an agitator . . . After scoring double-figures six times in April, IVAN JOHNSON was re-signed to once again provide some muscle inside . . . Rookie MIKE SCOTT is polished after five years at Virginia, but doesn't have the athleticism to be an impact player . . . ANTHONY TOLLIVER is a defensive specialist with very little offense to contribute. CENTERS: AL HORFORD will get his wish to play more power forward this season, though he'll remain their primary option at center. He's healthy again and is one of the most consistent bigs in the NBA . . . ZAZA PACHULIA filled in admirably for Horford last year. But it's back to bench duty for the bruising big . . . JOHAN PETRO is French for "12th man." | | CLEVELAND: GUARDS: KYRIE IRVING is the real deal, a heady playmaker and near-elite shooter. He should emerge as the NBA's next great point guard this season . . . Rookie DION WAITERS has a chance to step right into the starting lineup. He can get to the rim and generally makes good choices withthe ball. The only thing holding him back is defense after playing college ball in Syracuse's lazy zone . . . C.J. MILES will reportedly start at either the two or three spot, but he really needs to find the range on his shot again for him to stick in the starting lineup . . . Gunning combo guard DANIEL GIBSON is looking like he'll be their sixth man . . . The Cavs are still trying to figure out their second unit. JEREMY PARGO figures to be Irving's backup, but DONALD SLOAN is a better defender and could eventually pass him for this role, which doesn't mean many minutes unless Irving gets injured again. FORWARDS: TRISTAN THOMPSON is trying to add a perimeter shot to his repertoire. Don't count on him becoming David West, but he should improve offensively to go along with his rebounding and shot-blocking . . . ALONZO GEE returns as the starting small forward, excelling on the defensive end, but without a polished enough offensive game to earn 35 minutes per night . . . OMRI CASSPI was in and out of the rotation late in the year as he battled knee issues. It's getting close to make-or-break time for him . . . JON LEUER is a solid stretch four who has a real chance at a rotation spot . . . SAMARDO SAMUELS reportedly dropped some weight in his effort to find some minutes . . . LUKE WALTON is an unofficial member of the coaching staff . . . Undrafted rookie KEVIN JONES could make some noise with his work on the offensive boards . . . LUKE HARANGODY is more of a D-League talent. CENTERS: ANDERSON VAREJAO's wrist should be 100 percent, and Sideshow Anderson should be the same relentless, double-double threat he's always been . . . Rookie TYLER ZELLER is a 7-footer with some nice offensive skills -- he can knock down a jump shot in the half court, and run the floor. He'll struggle to defend in space, but made a living drawing charges at UNC, and should be able to play 20+ minutes as a rookie. |

Atlanta (17-9) at Cleveland (7-23), 7:30 p.m. EDT
After earning back-to-back home wins, the Atlanta Hawks are hoping to keep their momentum going during a road-heavy stretch.
A visit to Cleveland might help get that off to a victorious start, but the Cavaliers beat the Hawks last month and will be seeking to build on their first win streak of the season Friday night.
Atlanta (17-9) endured one of its worst stretches this season earlier this month, losing three of four, but bounced back with wins against Chicago and Detroit over the past week.
In the latter of those games Wednesday, the Hawks blew a 22-point lead in the fourth quarter but came away with a 126-119 win in double overtime. Josh Smith had a season-high 31 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, while Al Horford chipped in 22 points and 10 boards.
"A couple of times I thought we were dead in the water," coach Larry Drew said. "It was a really hard fought win."
Smith had a team-best 25 points against Cleveland on Nov. 30 and was one of six Atlanta players in double figures but Alonzo Gee's putback in the final second gave the Cavaliers a 113-111 victory at Philips Arena. Jeremy Pargo, Dion Waiters and Anderson Varejao each had 20 or more points as Cleveland snapped a seven-game skid in the series.
"We've got to go up there and play better than we did here," Drew said. "We know that we can play better. That's our goal and that's our focus."
The Cavaliers head into this matchup having earned back-to-back victories for the first time since a three-game win streak March 7-11, but coach Byron Scott was hardly pleased with his team's play in an 87-84 victory in Washington on Wednesday.
Cleveland (7-23) shot 37.8 percent and Kyrie Irving scored only six of his team-best 26 points in the second half while missing nine of 10 shots.
"I should be a lot happier than I am, I guess," Scott said. "But some of the boneheaded mistakes that we made ... we've just got to be a little bit smarter when the game's on the line like that.
"We feel pretty good about the two wins. Now it's just trying to build on them."
Having won three straight in Cleveland, Atlanta could make it difficult for the Cavaliers to add to that streak and avoid a season high-tying fourth consecutive home defeat. The Hawks, 7-4 on the road this season, won 103-87 in their only visit last season March 18.
Atlanta will play eight of its next 11 games on the road and Smith will try to help get that stretch off to a positive start with another strong performance against Cleveland. Along with his 25-point performance in November, the Hawks forward had 32 points and 17 rebounds in a 103-102 overtime win over the Cavaliers on March 21.
A broken left finger kept Irving out of the most recent matchup. He averaged 22.0 points on 55.8 percent shooting and 7.0 assists in last season's three meetings.
"We have a task before us in defending him," Drew said. "He can make shots. He's good off the dribble. He finds people. He's a very skilled point guard. It won't just be one guy's responsibility. It will be everybody's."
Irving had 29 points, nine assists and a career high-tying nine rebounds in the overtime loss in March.
