KEY GAME INFORMATION
MILWAUKEE: GUARDS: The Bucks hope to fill a gaping hole at point guard with a committee approach. BRANDON KNIGHT, an undersized, athletically-overmatched combo guard, will get first crack at the job . . . Ex-Laker KENDALL MARSHALL, a heady floor general who can't shoot or defend, is an option as well . . . KHRIS MIDDLETON, a spot-up shooter, has a good chance to retain his starting job . . . New head coach Jason Kidd will try to rebuild O.J. MAYO, who could emerge as a serviceable sixth man, but looked wholly disinterested last season . . . The arrival of Marshall likely pushes NATE WOLTERS out of the rotation. He could be ticketed for the D-League at some point this season. FORWARDS: JABARI PARKER becomes the new face of this franchise. He can score as well as facilitate the offense. The only real question is what kind of defensive effort he puts in . . . GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO will be used at both forward spots and both guard spots as well. The Greek Freak is raw, but the Bucks will expand his role . . . After a season in Larry Drew's doghouse, the coaching change should bode well for ERSAN ILYASOVA. He's likely looking at a part-time role . . . JOHN HENSON will play some 4 and 5, though his lack of an offensive game limits his appeal . . . JOHNNY O'BRYANT III might push for a rotation spot once he returns from a knee injury in late November. He's one of the few big men on this team who can score around the basket . . . If DAMIEN INGLIS comes over, he's looking at a D-League stint. CENTERS: Kidd is a LARRY SANDERS believer, so after a season filled with injuries and knucklehead behavior, he'll have every chance to bounce back. When he's in the right place, he's an elite rim protector . . . Larry Drew favorite ZAZA PACHULIA is looking at a traditional back-up role now that Drew is gone.
CHICAGO: GUARDS: There's no medical reason why DERRICK ROSE can't be 100 percent healthy this year. But, as we saw in abbreviated action last season, his confidence may never come back . . . JIMMY BUTLER will still play major minutes this year, though Chicago's added depth on the wing means he's no longer a candidate to lead the league in playing time . . . KIRK HINRICH will return to a straight back-up role. His defense guarantees him minutes at both guard spots in a reserve role . . . TONY SNELL was inconsistent as a rookie, but has the defensive skill set to play solid minutes . . . AARON BROOKS gives the Bulls a more offense-heavy option to lead the second unit. He has his work cut out for him to claim the role D.J. Augustin held last season. FORWARDS: Despite the rough end to his Lakers career, PAU GASOL still has something left in the tank. He will see fewer minutes in a deep Bulls frontcourt, but he's a great fit on the offensive end . . . It seems like only a matter of time before MIKE DUNLEAVY relinquishes his starting spot. The Bulls now have plenty of shooters on this roster . . . TAJ GIBSON will reprise his sixth-man role. He'll be one of the league's top reserves; talent-wise he's a borderline All-Star . . . Rookie DOUG McDERMOTT will supplant Dunleavy once he grasps head coach Tom Thibodeau's defensive concepts. McDermott is an elite shooter who can get by defensively . . . NIKOLA MIROTIC might have some growing pains, but the Euro star can play the 3 or stretch-4 and has a very good offensive game. CENTERS: JOAKIM NOAH is an elite center, as he's outstanding defensively and has developed into one of the best passing big men in the NBA. The Bulls will do what they can to keep him fresh for the postseason, a luxury they have with Gasol and Mirotic adding depth to the frontcourt rotation. NAZR MOHAMMED is back as a big body with the ability to consistently keep the bench warm.

*Bucks-Bulls Preview* =====================

By KEVIN CHROUST STATS Writer

Milwaukee At Chicago, Game Two, 8:00 p.m. EDT

Much of the focus of the Chicago Bulls' Game 1 win over the Milwaukee Bucks was on the postseason return of Derrick Rose, the exceedingly key component to the franchise's last deep postseason run.

Now that that's out of the way, the Bulls seem set on showing how much more well-rounded this group is and how that trait might define its next run.

Game 2 of the first-round Eastern Conference series comes Monday night in Chicago with the third-seeded Bulls seeking a commanding lead before heading to Milwaukee.

Rose, the 2011 MVP who led the Bulls to the conference finals that season, had 23 points and seven assists in the 103-91 victory Saturday in his first postseason game in nearly three years. The Bulls went 7-15 in the playoffs with Rose out over the past three seasons because of various knee injuries. With him, they're 15-15, and dating to 2009-10, he's averaging 26.7 points and 7.6 assists in 23 games.

"I think we have a great opportunity," Joakim Noah told the team's official website. "We just have to stay humble and hungry. Derrick played really well. It was so good to see him competing the way he competed."

Jimmy Butler led all scorers with a postseason career-high 25 points. Along with the addition of Pau Gasol, Butler is one of the pieces that gives Rose substantially more to work with on the offensive end than four years ago. That said, the Bulls could probably use a little more out of Gasol, who had 10 points and 13 rebounds but was 5 of 17 from the floor and is shooting 41.9 percent in his last seven playoff games.

"As long as we stay healthy and everyone keeps his confidence high I think it's going to be tough for teams to key in on any one guy because we have so many guys who do so many things well," Butler said. "So if we just keep playing team basketball and give our all for the team, we will continue to win."

Including four wins to end the regular season, Chicago is rolling, and plenty of it has been because of strong defensive efforts. Over that five-game span, it's held opponents to 89.4 points and 39.1 percent shooting, though in the last two that defensive performance has been necessary to overcome 20.5 turnovers.

The Bulls have also won seven of eight against Milwaukee while limiting the Bucks to 85.3 points per game. That includes four straight wins in Chicago by an average of 12.0 points.

While Rose's playoff return was a long time coming, it's been even longer since Milwaukee had any postseason success. The Bucks have dropped seven straight playoff games with their last series being a four-game sweep at the hands of Miami in 2013.

The Bucks had won three straight to end the regular season, though the playoffs were a new experience for three of their five starters. Only Zaza Pachulia and Ersan Ilyasova had been to the postseason, while it was a first for Michael Carter-Williams, Khris Middleton and Giannis Antetokounmpo. The trio combined for a 15-of-43 (34.9 percent) shooting mark.

"It's the first playoff game for a lot of people on this team," said Jerryd Bayless, who had played in 23 previous playoff games for Portland and Memphis. "There were a lot of nerves and whatnot, but we got rid of it today and have a great opportunity on Monday."

Bulls forward Taj Gibson suffered a minor strain to his right knee in the fourth quarter after dealing with a strained left shoulder the past few weeks but is expected to play. Guard Kirk Hinrich has missed three games with a left knee injury.
