| | | UTAH: GUARDS: TREY BURKE is likely the lead guard here, though it's really by default. He doesn't have the athleticism to make a lot of plays in the lane, and will have to rely on difficult shot-making . . . He continues to steadily improve, and there could be a bigger role available for ALEC BURKS. He'll have to develop a more consistent three-point shot before he really breaks out though . . . DANTE EXUM is an electrifying athlete, but he's making an enormous jump from essentially high school ball in Australia. He could be a gem in the long run, but don't expect him to do much as a rookie . . . TOURE' MURRY will likely play some garbage minutes. FORWARDS: He ascended to the alpha role in Utah, but GORDON HAYWARD had some struggles with the extra defensive attention. He should improve somewhat, as he knows what's coming, and has added a runner to his repertoire . . . DERRICK FAVORS will play more at the 4-spot this season, and he has the strength to power his way to easy baskets. He's a potential double-double guy . . . RODNEY HOOD had an up-and-down year at Duke despite his physical gifts. He has an NBA-caliber combination of size and athleticism, but right now he's a streaky shooter with a lot of rough edges on his game . . . TREVOR BOOKER is a solid second-unit big man, a defensive bruiser and good screener on offense . . . JEREMY EVANS can dunk, but provides little else . . . STEVE NOVAK will never be a full-time player, but he's still one of the league's elite shooters. CENTERS: He was disappointing last season, but ENES KANTER still has some upside on the offensive end of the floor. How he and Favors will mesh is yet to be seen . . . RUDY GOBERT is a shot-blocking fool, but still ultra-raw | | CHARLOTTE: GUARDS: LANCE STEPHENSON started chucking and padding stats after missing the All-Star team last season, fueling Indiana's collapse. He's a potentially solid role player, but if he tries to be the alpha for the Hornets, it could be a long season . . . KEMBA WALKER has become a solid playmaker, though he'll lose some touches while playing alongside Stephenson . . . The Hornets seem to be done with GERALD HENDERSON, who will stay in the rotation, but see a reduced role with all the Hornets' offseason acquisitions . . . GARY NEAL can play both guard spots as a high-scoring sixth man . . . P.J. HAIRSTON needs to stay out of trouble off the court if he's to have any chance of becoming a three-point specialist off the bench . . . BRIAN ROBERTS steps in as a No. 3 point guard. FORWARDS: Charlotte reloaded in the frontcourt, but MICHAEL KIDD-GILCHRIST will likely claim a starting job due to his defense. It's probably time to accept that MKG will never have much of an offensive game . . . CODY ZELLER will have every opportunity to grab a starting job early on. Unfortunately, his inability to score in traffic limits his effectiveness . . . MARVIN WILLIAMS will see major minutes at both forward spots. He's a capable defender who has added a three-point shot to his repertoire . . . He's still a teenager, so he may not carve out major minutes this year, but NOAH VONLEH has by far the most upside among their 4's and 5's. He's a potentially elite stretch-4 . . . JEFF TAYLOR's Achilles is close to 100 percent. He has a shot to re-claim a rotation spot. CENTERS: AL JEFFERSON is a flawed player, but he gives Charlotte exactly what the team is looking for: A low-post threat on the offensive end of the court. Like Walker, he'll also suffer a bit with Stephenson coming in, but he's still the focal point of this offense . . . He's not quite a bust because he can defend, but BISMACK BIYOMBO hasn't shown any semblance of an offensive game. |

*Jazz-Hornets Preview* ======================
By JACK CASSIDY STATS Writer
Utah (7-19) at Charlotte (6-19), 7:00 p.m. EDT
The Utah Jazz had notched just two victories away from home before embarking on a season-high six-game road trip.
After winning two straight to even the swing, the Jazz look to take three in a row for the first time since late in the 2012-13 season Saturday night against a Charlotte Hornets team they have dominated for nearly six years.
Gordon Hayward has led the way this past week for Utah (8-19), scoring 29 points in Wednesday's 105-87 win in Miami before finishing with 20 to help the Jazz beat Orlando 101-94 on Friday. He's averaging 19.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals - all career bests - while adding 4.0 assists.
Along with Derrick Favors, who had 23 points against the Magic, his efforts have put Utah on the verge of its first three-game road win streak since March 29-April 15, 2013.
The Hornets (7-19) not only know of Hayward's skills, they desired them. Charlotte extended a four-year, $63 million offer sheet that Hayward signed in the offseason, but the Jazz matched it to retain their starting forward.
"He's 24 years old and he has the talent, the character and the work ethic to be an All-Star player," Hornets coach Steve Clifford said of Hayward at the time.
Utah has won 10 consecutive matchups with Charlotte, even without strong performances from Hayward. Trey Burke had 21 points and five assists to help the Jazz beat the then-Bobcats 83-80 at home on Dec. 30, 2013, in the most recent meeting.
Burke, who had 20 points on his last visit to Charlotte, had five of Utah's 24 assists Friday. Six of their eight wins have come when the Jazz manage at least 20 assists.
"We're taking some steps to improve and it's resulting in wins," coach Quinn Snyder said. "We've got to understand why that is happening so we can keep doing it. When we share the ball, that is when we're at our best."
Charlotte, which hasn't beaten Utah since Nov. 14, 2008, enters this matchup also seeking back-to-back wins after snapping a four-game losing streak with only its second road victory, 109-91 at Philadelphia on Friday.
Lance Stephenson did not play due to a pelvic sprain and will likely sit Saturday, but given the recent play of Kemba Walker, his absence may not be hard to overcome.
Walker scored a season-high 30 points against the 76ers after already recording point totals of 24 and 27 earlier this week. He is shooting 52.4 percent in his last three games with 5.7 assists per contest.
"When he's going, he leads us and we follow him," said Al Jefferson, who had 20 points and 12 rebounds Friday. "He's the leader of this team. He's got a heart of a giant."
Charlotte and Utah rank similarly low both offensively and defensively. Both the Hornets and the Jazz have allowed 101.4 points per game, while Charlotte has scored 95.2 to sit slightly behind Utah's 96.7.
The Hornets are 5-9 at home after dropping their last two at Time Warner Cable Arena.
