KEY GAME INFORMATION
MINNESOTA: GUARDS: RICKY RUBIO could be back by late December, but even he's not confident his knee will be 100 percent. His minutes might have to be scaled back . . . LUKE RIDNOUR will handle the offense with Rubio hampered. The vet is a steady hand in coach Rick Adelman's Euro-style offense . . . They're counting on BRANDON ROY to reclaim his old form after a radical knee procedure. He may never be 100 percent, but he should at least give them sixth-man minutes . . . CHASE BUDINGER is a three-point marksman who moves well off the ball, a perfect fit in Adelman's system . . . J.J. BAREA will take some of the point guard burden as well. He's a top sixth man . . . ALEXEY SHVED can help as a combo guard, though he might have trouble breaking into this rotation . . . MALCOLM LEE is a defensive stopper who won't be asked to shoot very often. FORWARDS: Despite being limited athletically, KEVIN LOVE is an elite rebounder and shooter for a big. He'll continue to be the focal point of this offense once he returns from a broken hand in early December . . . ANDREI KIRILENKO returns to the States after a dominating Euroleague stint. He's a big upgrade at the three and should be comfortable in Adelman's system . . . DERRICK WILLIAMS will continue his attempted transition to the three. As last year proved, he's a long, long ways away. He might have to play himself into a rotation spot . . . DANTE CUNNINGHAM is a nice, efficient big to bring off the bench . . . Since they need shooting on the wings, rookie ROBBIE HUMMEL has a chance to crack the rotation. CENTERS: NIKOLA PEKOVIC is a beast, the best offensive rebounder in the NBA. His total rebounding numbers get hurt playing alongside Kevin Love, but Pekovic will continue to bully his way to put-backs . . . GREG STIEMSMA is going to come in and do some pushing and shoving (and occasional shot-blocking) for 12-to-15 MPG.
CHARLOTTE: GUARDS: RAMON SESSIONS will have to adjust to a major downgrade in teammates, but he has the kind of versatile offensive skill set to be the focal point of this offense . . . The athletic GERALD HENDERSON has made strides the past two seasons. Realistically, his offensive skills are those of a No. 4 or 5 option . . . Coach Mike Dunlap is high on KEMBA WALKER, who was sometimes overwhelmed as a rookie. With a few new sets built in for him, he could thrive as a sixth man getting starter's minutes . . . BEN GORDON won't overtake Henderson, but should see big minutes as the Cats' only shooter . . . REGGIE WILLIAMS is a D-League talent . . . MATT CARROLL, in the final year of his $27 million deal, symbolizes everything that's gone wrong under Michael Jordan. FORWARDS: Drafting MICHAEL KIDD-GILCHRIST was as much about changing the losing culture as it was adding a piece they needed. MKG's statistical output is a question mark, but he'll see big minutes as a defensive stopper and intangibles guy . . . This team is seriously lacking in the post, where they may have no choice but to play TYRUS THOMAS for significant minutes. The talented but uber-underachieving big man claims to have added 20 pounds of muscle in the offseason. If nothing else, they might showcase him in a desperate attempt to get some trade value . . . Rookie JEFFERY TAYLOR figures to make the team and has the versatility and athleticism to be a respectable second-unit guy. CENTERS: Charlotte sees BISMACK BIYOMBO as a franchise cornerstone. He can certainly rebound and block shots, but his offense is atrocious . . . BRENDAN HAYWOOD brings a veteran presence. At his age he can't go more than 15 or so minutes per night . . . BYRON MULLENS never saw a shot he didn't like. He'll get one more chance to prove he's an NBA rotation player, able to play the four or five . . . DeSAGANA DIOP is doing those things that DeSagana Diop does.

*Timberwolves-Bobcats Preview* ==============================

By JORDAN GARRETSON STATS Writer

Minnesota (17-22) at Charlotte (10-32), 7:30 p.m. EDT

The Charlotte Bobcats are nearing an NBA record for ineptitude with 16 straight home losses. The Minnesota Timberwolves have dropped 10 of 11 on the road, including six in a row.

One of those streaks will come to an end Saturday night when the Bobcats host the Timberwolves.

Charlotte owns the league's worst overall record at 10-32 after losing its last three games, but most concerning has been the team's play at home. The Bobcats haven't won a game at Time Warner Cable Arena since Nov. 21, when they improved to 5-2 on their own court.

Three more consecutive defeats at home would tie the NBA record set by Dallas during the 1993-94 season.

"It's bad because you want to win in front of the fans," said Ramon Sessions, who scored a season-high 27 points in a 104-92 home loss to Atlanta on Wednesday. "... We just have to get it together here at home. We just have to get ready and try to play good for 48 minutes."

Ben Gordon scored 15 points off the bench against the Hawks, but aside from that, Sessions didn't receive much help offensively. Kemba Walker had only 11 on 4-of-11 shooting with five turnovers, two days after scoring a career-high 35 against Houston.

Coach Mike Dunlap said he's keeping his emotions in check for the sake of what the Bobcats are trying to build.

"The frustration is high," Dunlap said Wednesday. "When you're in charge, and I'm in charge, that frustration has to be handled the right way. ... We're doing certain things here and unfortunately we're going to have nights like this."

Poor defense and a growing injury list have been the main culprits for the Timberwolves (17-23) as they've lost eight of nine.

Minnesota's defense didn't show any signs of improvement Friday in a 114-101 loss at Washington. The Wizards, who average 91.5 points on 42.1 percent shooting, shot 57.8 percent from the floor.

"You can't just give them all the credit for their shooting," Luke Ridnour told the league's official website. "They did shoot the ball well, but we didn't play good defense."

It was nothing new for the Timberwolves, who are allowing 100.8 points per game on 50.3 percent shooting in their last nine games. They've allowed 104 or more six times over that span.

Ricky Rubio had another rough night Friday with four points on 1-of-8 shooting along with six assists and five turnovers. He apologized to acting coach Terry Porter because of an outburst over the team's loss to Brooklyn on Wednesday, when Rubio sat on the bench for the final minutes of a 91-83 defeat.

"I don't think it was ever really an issue," said Porter, who is filling in while Rick Adelman tends to his sick wife. "He was frustrated like any player would be who wants to be playing the fourth quarter."

Injuries forced the Timberwolves to play Friday without Kevin Love, Brandon Roy, Malcolm Lee, Chase Budinger, Nikola Pekovic and Alexey Shved.

Pekovic (quad contusion) and Shved (sprained ankle) should return soon, but didn't travel on this two-game road trip.

Charlotte has won nine of the last 12 meetings, including an 89-87 victory Nov. 14 behind Walker's 22 points. Andrei Kirilenko scored a season-high 26 on 9-of-12 shooting for Minnesota in the loss.
