| |  | SACRAMENTO: GUARDS: MARCUS THORNTON is the only one guaranteed a consistent role on the perimeter . . . ISAIAH THOMAS was the story of the second half for the Kings. He can fill up the box score, but at 5-foot-9 (at best) he's too much of a defensive liability and not a point guard . . . AARON BROOKS is the most talented guard on this team. He's had attitude problems in the past, but he could, and should, lead this team . . . Now that he remained in Sacto, TYREKE EVANS will be playing off the ball at the three against his wishes . . . The Kings will keep on trying to unload JOHN SALMONS, who's not a useful NBA player . . . JIMMER FREDETTE should have a role off the bench, but his ball-handling is not where it has to be for an NBA point guard . . . FRANCISCO GARCIA's chance seems to have passed him by. FORWARDS: THOMAS ROBINSON should emerge as a starter early in his rookie year. He has his flaws on both ends of the floor, but he brings energy and doesn't need a lot of touches to get his points . . . Even if Robinson knocks him to the bench, JASON THOMPSON should play the five at times and see close to starter's minutes . . . JAMES JOHNSON should also play big minutes soon considering his ability to make positive contributions without a lot of touches . . . CHUCK HAYES should continue to play second-unit minutes as a glue guy . . . TRAVIS OUTLAW has regressed to the point that he's lucky to have a roster spot . . . TYLER HONEYCUTT has an intriguing skill set as a defensive-minded point forward, but he's likely ticketed for the D-League again. CENTERS: DeMARCUS COUSINS came on strong late last season. There's no doubt he has All-Star potential, but between his awful shot selection and occasional attitude problems, he just hasn't lived up to his potential. After Team USA passed on him this summer because of reported maturity problems, he might still not get it. | | CHARLOTTE: GUARDS: RAMON SESSIONS will have to adjust to a major downgrade in teammates, but he has the kind of versatile offensive skill set to be the focal point of this offense . . . The athletic GERALD HENDERSON has made strides the past two seasons. Realistically, his offensive skills are those of a No. 4 or 5 option . . . Coach Mike Dunlap is high on KEMBA WALKER, who was sometimes overwhelmed as a rookie. With a few new sets built in for him, he could thrive as a sixth man getting starter's minutes . . . BEN GORDON won't overtake Henderson, but should see big minutes as the Cats' only shooter . . . REGGIE WILLIAMS is a D-League talent . . . MATT CARROLL, in the final year of his $27 million deal, symbolizes everything that's gone wrong under Michael Jordan. FORWARDS: Drafting MICHAEL KIDD-GILCHRIST was as much about changing the losing culture as it was adding a piece they needed. MKG's statistical output is a question mark, but he'll see big minutes as a defensive stopper and intangibles guy . . . This team is seriously lacking in the post, where they may have no choice but to play TYRUS THOMAS for significant minutes. The talented but uber-underachieving big man claims to have added 20 pounds of muscle in the offseason. If nothing else, they might showcase him in a desperate attempt to get some trade value . . . Rookie JEFFERY TAYLOR figures to make the team and has the versatility and athleticism to be a respectable second-unit guy. CENTERS: Charlotte sees BISMACK BIYOMBO as a franchise cornerstone. He can certainly rebound and block shots, but his offense is atrocious . . . BRENDAN HAYWOOD brings a veteran presence. At his age he can't go more than 15 or so minutes per night . . . BYRON MULLENS never saw a shot he didn't like. He'll get one more chance to prove he's an NBA rotation player, able to play the four or five . . . DeSAGANA DIOP is doing those things that DeSagana Diop does. |

Kemba Walker was vital to the Charlotte Bobcats ending a losing streak in their last game.
Another strong performance Saturday night against the Sacramento Kings would go a long way in helping the Bobcats avoid matching the longest home skid in team history.
Walker has emerged as Charlotte's key offensive threat in his second season, leading the team with averages of 17.5 points and 5.6 assists. The point guard came up big for the Bobcats (10-29) on Friday, scoring 25 points with eight rebounds and five assists in a 106-100 win at Orlando that ended a five-game skid.
"It's all about confidence," Walker said. "If your coach has confidence in you, that's all you need. My teammates have confidence in me also. It's just really easy to play with these guys."
Charlotte has a chance for back-to-back wins for the first time in two months, but will have to snap a 13-game home losing streak to achieve that. The Bobcats have surrendered 106.9 points and opponents are shooting 42.1 percent from 3-point range during that slide.
They lost a franchise-record 14 in a row to conclude their home schedule last season.
Walker averaged 21.5 points in his first 16 home games this season, but that total has dipped to 13.3 in the past four contests there.
Over that same stretch, Ramon Sessions - second to Walker with 14.2 points per game - is shooting 32.5 percent from the floor while averaging 12.5 points.
Sessions has managed a 17.3 scoring average while connecting on 54.5 percent from the field in his last four meetings with Sacramento (15-25), but those came with Cleveland and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Walker had 13 points in his only career matchup with the Kings on April 22, when the Bobcats lost 114-88 to end their six-game winning streak in the series.
Facing Sacramento gives Charlotte a golden opportunity to earn its first home win since Sessions hit the decisive jumper with 28 seconds left in a 98-97 victory over Toronto on Nov. 21.
The Kings are 3-15 on the road, giving up an average of 101.2 points.
Those troubles away from home continued Friday as Sacramento opened this three-game trip with an 85-69 loss to Memphis. The Kings set a season low in points and matched their worst effort from the field with 34.1 percent.
"We couldn't find the right energy or rhythm we needed," coach Keith Smart said, adding that his team "had a lot of missed shots, easy paint shots.
"We just couldn't finish plays. We had layup opportunities, close paint shots. We just could never get ourselves into anything that was going to be easy for us to break any runs."
DeMarcus Cousins continues to do his part, averaging 27.0 points and 14.3 rebounds over the past three road games. He had 22 points and 12 rebounds Friday, the only Kings player to score in double figures.
Cousins tallied 29 points and 10 rebounds at Charlotte last season, while Tyreke Evans scored 22.
Evans has averaged 19.8 points in four career meetings with the Bobcats, but he enters this game after going 3 for 10 from the floor and finishing with eight points Friday.
