KEY GAME INFORMATION
ATLANTA: GUARDS: Considering he was almost gone a year ago, the Hawks are thankful JEFF TEAGUE is still in town. He may never be a great shooter, but he gets wherever he wants on the floor . . . KYLE KORVER is still the NBA's premier shooter, and he's shown no signs of relinquishing that title . . . THABO SEFOLOSHA gives the Hawks a defensive option to complement Korver. He looked worn down last season though, eventually falling out of OKC's rotation . . . KENT BAZEMORE gives Atlanta some more offensive firepower off the bench . . . DENNIS SCHRODER showed flashes of that Rajon Rondo Lite promise last year. Don't be surprised to see him paired with Teague in some lineups . . . There's no guarantee JOHN JENKINS will ever be the same after back surgery. FORWARDS: PAUL MILLSAP has developed into a capable co-alpha, along with Jeff Teague. In addition to his low-post work, he's developed a three-point shot and the ability to work off the dribble . . . DeMARRE CARROLL is trying to add a three-point shot to his repertoire. It would give him a big boost in offensive value to go along with his defense and all-around hustle . . . ADREIAN PAYNE will provide some much-needed depth at the 4 and 5 spots. He's NBA-ready, especially with his ability to pull opposing big men away from the basket with his shooting . . . MIKE MUSCALA gives them another big man who can shoot it, but he's not athletic enough to hold his own in the NBA. CENTERS: Will AL HORFORD ever stay healthy? He's an All-Star when he is. His recent injuries have been a bit fluky, but it's going to be tough to trust him . . . PERO ANTIC proved to be a capable stretch-5 last year, but the arrival of Payne will likely push him out of the rotation.
BROOKLYN: GUARDS: Even after Paul Pierce came to Brooklyn, JOE JOHNSON remained the clear-cut No. 1 option in Brooklyn. Their offense figures to feature Johnson backing down defenders frequently again this year . . . DERON WILLIAMS seems to be deteriorating rapidly, struggling to stay healthy and losing confidence . . . JARRETT JACK figures to take Shaun Livingston's old role, playing alongside Williams often to take ball-handling duties off his plate . . . ALAN ANDERSON will see time at both wing spots as a defensive specialist who shoots some corner threes . . . SERGEY KARASEV has some long-term upside, but will do little this year . . . MARQUIS TEAGUE figures to have the edge on MARKEL BROWN for the No. 3 PG job. FORWARDS: With Paul Pierce gone, MIRZA TELETOVIC has a chance to take on a bigger role. He held his own defensively last year and provides another deep threat to space the floor . . . There's no telling what, if anything, they'll get out of ANDREI KIRILENKO this season. He seems to be at a point in his career when he's just not going to be able to stay healthy . . . BOJAN BOGDANOVIC should give Brooklyn some additional offensive firepower off the bench. He'll likely be a regular in the rotation by midseason . . . KEVIN GARNETT figures to play a bit more at the 4 alongside Brook Lopez, but there's pretty much no gas left in the tank for this 38-year-old player . . . Second-round pick CORY JEFFERSON is likely ticketed for the D-League. CENTERS: The Nets desperately need a healthy BROOK LOPEZ if they're going to win the Atlantic Division, but they'll have to monitor his minutes closely after another season lost to injury . . . With Lopez healthy, MASON PLUMLEE will resume his natural role as an energy guy off the bench.

*Hawks-Nets Preview* ====================

By TAYLOR BECHTOLD STATS Writer

Atlanta At Brooklyn, Game Three, 3:00 p.m. EDT

Al Horford says the Atlanta Hawks have been "playing on the edge" while trying to recapture the form that keyed their climb atop the Eastern Conference.

The Brooklyn Nets only hope they can get back into the series at home before the so-far underwhelming top seed finds its way.

With their banged-up frontcourt showing signs of progress, the Hawks aim to play more like the club that set a franchise record for victories as they try to gain a 3-0 series lead Saturday at Barclays Center.

After enjoying its best regular season with 60 wins and finishing 22 games ahead of Brooklyn in the East, Atlanta has had to hold on late to take the first two at home from the conference's No. 8 seed.

The Hawks led by as many as 16 in Game 1 before escaping with a 99-92 win Sunday after Brooklyn closed within four in the final two minutes. They then built a 12-point advantage Wednesday before Deron Williams missed a potential tying jumper with 11 seconds left.

"This ain't no pushover team," forward Paul Millsap said of the Nets. "There's not going to be games where we can just run over them."

Millsap rebounded with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting and made four 3-pointers in Game 2 after ditching a pad that he felt restricted his shooting motion. He was sidelined for five of the last six regular-season games with a sprained right shoulder and struggled with six points while missing nine of 11 shots in the series opener.

Horford, another Atlanta All-Star, appears to be getting used to having his right hand taped after dislocating his pinky finger in Game 1. He was more effective Wednesday with 14 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists.

Millsap and Horford now look to help Atlanta put up a better fight in the paint as the best-of-seven series shifts to Brooklyn for the next two contests. The Nets held a 96-80 rebounding advantage and a 92-70 scoring edge in the paint at Atlanta.

"We've not been great at (rebounding) all year," Horford said of the Hawks, who ranked 27th in the NBA with a minus-3.1 rebounding margin during the regular season. "But we've done enough to get by."

Brooklyn played well at home down the stretch, winning seven of its last nine at Barclays. Atlanta dropped six of its final eight on the road, though it has won three straight at Brooklyn following its 114-111 victory April 8.

Center Brook Lopez has been a key for the Nets, totaling 37 points and 21 rebounds - nine offensive - in the first two games. He also had 46 points and 17 boards in a pair of home losses to Atlanta this season.

Former Hawks swingman Joe Johnson has a combined 36 points and 15 boards in the series despite shooting 12 for 33. Fellow starters Williams, Bojan Bogdanovic and Thaddeus Young look to bounce back after scoring a combined 12 Wednesday.

The Nets have shot 45.2 percent so far in the series and have hit just 13 of 46 (28.3 percent) from long range.

"All is not lost," reserve Jarrett Jack said after scoring a team-high 23 on Wednesday. "Our confidence is high."

Aside from Dennis Schroder's 25 points, Atlanta's reserves have totaled 31 on 10-of-31 (32.3 percent) shooting.

Starting guard Kyle Korver has averaged just 6.5 points while missing 10 of 16 from 3-point range in his last four at Brooklyn, though he's making a big difference in this series by scoring 38 on 8-of-18 shooting from beyond the arc.

DeMarre Carroll could be in line for a better performance after finishing with two points while going 0 for 5 from 3-point range in Game 2. He's totaled 37 points and hit 7 of 12 from beyond the arc in this season's matchups at Barclays.
