KEY GAME INFORMATION
CLEVELAND: GUARDS: KYRIE IRVING will play off the ball more. With defenses keying on LeBron James, Irving should become a more efficient scorer . . . DION WAITERS will start for the Cavaliers at shooting guard. He shows flashes of brilliance on offense, but like Irving, doesn't play defense . . . MIKE MILLER reunites with James as a part-time floor spacer . . . JOE HARRIS' deep shooting makes him a possible long-term replacement for Miller. FORWARDS: LeBRON JAMES is the MVP favorite. He'll fill up the stat sheet while having these Cavaliers in a position to win every single night . . . KEVIN LOVE is one of the game's premier power forwards. He should have plenty of open looks this season, as he plays off of James. He'll also rack up rebounds . . . TRISTAN THOMPSON's switch from shooting left-handed to righty last season went well. He's a solid two-way player who should see time at center as well . . . SHAWN MARION will be a swiss-army knife off the bench for the Cavs. He can do a little bit of everything and will allow James to get a little rest this season. . . JAMES JONES followed James to Cleveland. He'll see minutes in a handful of games as a three-point specialist. CENTERS: ANDERSON VAREJAO stayed relatively healthy last season, and the Cavs will need him considering their thin rotation up front. He never developed much of an offensive game, but his energy, defense and rebounding fit well alongside Thompson and James.

Because of this important information, no power rating or computer score edges are posted for this game.

BOSTON: GUARDS: RAJON RONDO's name is etched on the trading block. Regardless of where he lands, his injured knee should be 100 percent healthy . . . With an improved three-point shot, AVERY BRADLEY has become a complete player. His defense guarantees minutes regardless . . . MARCUS SMART seems to be waiting in the wings for a Rondo trade. In the meantime, he'll back up both guard spots. Just like in college, he'll be brilliant at times, but inconsistent . . . Local product PHIL PRESSEY will stick around as a No. 3 point guard . . . EVAN TURNER was a disaster in Indy. He'll have a tough time making this rotation . . . MARCUS THORNTON was acquired as a trade throw-in. The Celtics don't have big plans for the remorseless gunner. FORWARDS: He's isn't a legitimate No. 1 option, but JEFF GREEN will be the go-to guy again. He hasn't been able to handle the extra defensive attention, becoming increasingly inefficient . . . He has plenty of limitations on both ends of the court, but JARED SULLINGER is a crafty scorer. He'll get close to starter minutes as the Celtics search for offense . . . BRANDON BASS will see time at the 4 and the 5. He's made a pledge to improve offensively, but more likely he'll be a defensive presence and a screen-setter . . . JAMES YOUNG missed most of the summer healing a neck injury. He's going to do some damage running the floor, but he doesn't have the skills for the half-court game in the NBA . . . GERALD WALLACE is playing out the string. CENTERS: KELLY OLYNYK has the most upside in this frontcourt. His rare mobility and skill set for a 7-footer made a difference last year. It's just a question of whether he can hold up defensively down low . . . TYLER ZELLER gives them another solid 7-footer who opposing defenses have to account for. He'll fit well in head coach Brad Stevens' system . . . JOEL ANTHONY isn't going to get off the bench.

*Cavaliers-Celtics Preview* ===========================

By JOHN KOSIK STATS Editor

Cleveland At Boston, Game Four, 1:00 p.m. EDT

Although the Boston Celtics and their fans may not yet be resigned to the team's fate, it's basically a matter of when as opposed to if for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

With the weight of NBA playoff history pushing down on them, the Celtics will try to avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the Cavaliers on Sunday at TD Garden.

Boston has shown plenty of grit in this first-round series but has only an 0-3 hole to show for it, and no team has ever come back from such a deficit to win a series. Sending it back to Cleveland for Game 5 is all the Celtics can focus on.

"You have a game Sunday, you prepare for the game, play to the best of your ability," coach Brad Stevens said when asked what he would tell his players given their situation.

The Cavaliers put the Celtics on the brink with a 103-95 victory Thursday. LeBron James had 31 points and 11 rebounds in his first playoff game in Boston since finishing with 45 and 15 rebounds for Miami in Game 6 of the 2012 Eastern Conference finals.

Kevin Love added 23 points, including two clutch 3-pointers after Boston pulled within three late in the fourth, and J.R. Smith had his best game of the series with 15. Love shot 8 for 16 with six 3-pointers after going 8 of 22 with three 3s over Games 1 and 2.

"Kevin has been great," coach David Blatt said. "Maybe he didn't score as much in the second game as he did tonight, or in the first game, but he's been engaged at both ends."

The Celtics have forced 42 turnovers in the series and have capitalized when contact is made, hitting 55 of 65 free throws, and in Game 3 were able to contain Kyrie Irving. The All-Star guard didn't make his first field goal until 6:27 remained in the third quarter and finished with 13 points on 3-of-11 shooting.

"This is the playoffs," Blatt told the Cavaliers' official website. "We're playing a fine opponent, they are making it very difficult for us, challenging us, competing with us and we're doing what we have to win, but it's not coming easy and we're working very hard to be successful in this series."

While Boston has made Cleveland work for each win, its poor 3-point shooting in the last two games (11 for 41) and 40 turnovers in the series have been hard to overcome.

"We've got to play better basketball," Stevens said. "I don't mean to sound that general and I'm sorry I do, but we've got to play better basketball ... on both ends."

After leading Boston with 44 points over the first two games, reserve guard Isaiah Thomas was limited to five on 2-of-9 shooting Thursday, but Jae Crowder and Evan Turner each had fine overall performances to pick him up.

Turner finished with 19 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, while Crowder had 16 points, seven boards and four assists. Avery Bradley scored 18 after totaling 15 points on 6-of-19 shooting in the first two games.

With the Celtics' overall team effort affording the Cavaliers little breathing room, James has had to log nearly 42 minutes in every game but has risen to the occasion, shooting 50 percent from the field in the last two with at least 30 points in each. He had just two turnovers Thursday after committing 11 in the first two games.

The four-time MVP has done a bit of everything with totals of 26 rebounds, 18 assists, six steals and five blocks while also playing his typical hard-nosed defense.

"Obviously, No. 23 (James) is one," Stevens said when asked what separates the Celtics and Cavaliers. "They've got other very talented guys ... You've got all these guys that are good players around the super superstars, and they just become better when they're around him. That's what the great ones do, they make everyone rise up."
