KEY GAME INFORMATION
ORLANDO: GUARDS: VICTOR OLADIPO, who will miss the first four weeks of season with a facial fracture suffered in a late October practice, will play off the ball more, allowing him to slash from the wing. It's a more natural role for him . . . With Jameer Nelson jettisoned, ELFRID PAYTON will step in as the starter at the point. He has an enormous transition from the Sun Belt Conference, but the quickness and athleticism are there . . . EVAN FOURNIER never found consistency in Denver, but could be a valuable wing shooter on a team that needs it . . . BEN GORDON was signed with a very 'tradeable' contract in mind. The Magic are hoping he shoots well enough to draw some suitors . . . LUKE RIDNOUR is a veteran insurance policy behind Payton . . . WILLIE GREEN can be an effective second-unit player . . . ROY DEVYN MARBLE seems like a D-Leaguer. FORWARDS: The Magic brought in CHANNING FRYE to provide some floor spacing and a veteran presence, both much-needed . . . TOBIAS HARRIS will likely have to play some more small forward. He has the offensive skill set to do it, but defense will continue to be an issue . . . He can play both forward spots, and AARON GORDON should be one of the league's better defensive forwards right off the bat. But for now, his offense is limited to dunking . . . It's a big year for MAURICE HARKLESS, who has yet to establish himself as a rotation-caliber player. With Harris and Gordon capable of playing the 3, Harkless could lose major minutes . . . ANDREW NICHOLSON has a ways to go after a disappointing second season. He's likely on the outside of this rotation. CENTERS: NIKOLA VUCEVIC is a cornerstone player in Orlando because he's big, and he does everything just well enough. He's not a game-changer on either side of the court . . . KYLE O'QUINN has had some good moments in garbage-time games the past two seasons. It's enough to keep him on the roster.
BOSTON: GUARDS: RAJON RONDO's name is etched on the trading block. Regardless of where he lands, his injured knee should be 100 percent healthy . . . With an improved three-point shot, AVERY BRADLEY has become a complete player. His defense guarantees minutes regardless . . . MARCUS SMART seems to be waiting in the wings for a Rondo trade. In the meantime, he'll back up both guard spots. Just like in college, he'll be brilliant at times, but inconsistent . . . Local product PHIL PRESSEY will stick around as a No. 3 point guard . . . EVAN TURNER was a disaster in Indy. He'll have a tough time making this rotation . . . MARCUS THORNTON was acquired as a trade throw-in. The Celtics don't have big plans for the remorseless gunner. FORWARDS: He's isn't a legitimate No. 1 option, but JEFF GREEN will be the go-to guy again. He hasn't been able to handle the extra defensive attention, becoming increasingly inefficient . . . He has plenty of limitations on both ends of the court, but JARED SULLINGER is a crafty scorer. He'll get close to starter minutes as the Celtics search for offense . . . BRANDON BASS will see time at the 4 and the 5. He's made a pledge to improve offensively, but more likely he'll be a defensive presence and a screen-setter . . . JAMES YOUNG missed most of the summer healing a neck injury. He's going to do some damage running the floor, but he doesn't have the skills for the half-court game in the NBA . . . GERALD WALLACE is playing out the string. CENTERS: KELLY OLYNYK has the most upside in this frontcourt. His rare mobility and skill set for a 7-footer made a difference last year. It's just a question of whether he can hold up defensively down low . . . TYLER ZELLER gives them another solid 7-footer who opposing defenses have to account for. He'll fit well in head coach Brad Stevens' system . . . JOEL ANTHONY isn't going to get off the bench.

*Magic-Celtics Preview* =======================

By NOEY KUPCHAN STATS Writer

Orlando (10-17) at Boston (8-14), 7:30 p.m. EDT

His overall numbers don't stand out but Kelly Olynyk has shown flashes of brilliance for the Boston Celtics, who are hoping to see more consistency out of the second-year center.

Coming off a career-best performance, Olynyk tries to lead the Celtics to a 12th win in 13 matchups against the visiting Orlando Magic on Wednesday night.

Olynyk is averaging 11.2 points to rank fourth on the Celtics (8-14), but he's scored at least 18 in eight games. The former Gonzaga star had averaged 7.5 points over a 10-game stretch before breaking out with 30 off the bench in Monday's 105-87 win at Philadelphia.

"I talked to coach (Brad Stevens) a couple of days ago, and he said, `We need you to be aggressive. You need to stay aggressive. That's when you're at your best,'" Olynyk said. "That's something I'm really focusing on and really been working on dialing in my shot and getting in a groove and it's feeling good."

The 7-foot Olynyk shot 12 of 17, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range, and he's gone 23 of 56 to rank in the top 25 in 3-point percentage (41.1) overall and second at his position in made 3s.

"We need him to make shots. Our team depends on it. He's a skill guy who can stretch the floor and we need him to do that," said Stevens, whose team snapped a three-game skid. "What I want him to do is believe in himself the way we believe in him.

"I think he's really good and think he could be a really good player. You want to (go from) being a player who's very capable of doing it and does it on multiple nights to a player that does it every single night."

Olynyk could create matchup problems against Orlando, which has been limited to an average of 90.1 points in dropping 11 of 12 to the Celtics. The Magic have lost seven straight at Boston.

Orlando (10-17) has lost three of four overall after opening a two-game road swing with Monday's 95-82 loss to Toronto. The Magic took an eight-point lead into the break before scoring 30 points on 37.1 percent shooting in the second half.

"It's tough, but when teams try to be gritty and tough on us and make a run, we have to stop them," veteran guard Ben Gordon said. "We can't come in here at halftime relaxed, being happy and cracking jokes and then lay an egg. We make ourselves look bad.

"I think it's just a mental issue with us and we still have a young team. But if we want make an impact we're going to have to grow up fast and mature through these situations."

The Magic are averaging 92.3 points on the road to rank near the bottom of the league, but Boston is 28th with 105.2 allowed per game at home.

Orlando has played an NBA-high 18 road games, three more than the next-closest teams and twice as many as Boston. The Magic are 7-11 away from home after going 4-37 last season.

Celtics forward Jeff Green is averaging 26.0 points in four home games this month. The Celtics are 5-2 at home when they make at least eight 3s compared to 0-6 when they don't.
