KEY GAME INFORMATION
LA LAKERS: LAST SEASON: 37-45, finished 10th in Western Conference.
COACH: Frank Vogel (first season with Lakers; ninth season overall, 304-291).
PROJECTED STARTING FIVE: G Rajon Rondo (9.2 ppg), G Danny Green (10.3 with Toronto), F LeBron James (27.4), F Anthony Davis (25.9 with New Orleans), C JaVale McGee (12.0).
KEY LOSSES: F Brandon Ingram, G Lonzo Ball, G Josh Hart, G Lance Stephenson.
KEY ADDITIONS: Davis, Green, C Dwight Howard, G Avery Bradley, F Jared Dudley, G Quinn Cook.
PLAYERS TO WATCH: The evolving chemistry between James and Davis will be at the forefront, but the Lakers' success in creating an immediate title contender could hinge on the supporting cast. Green must keep the outside shooting proficiency he demonstrated last season for Toronto, while Kyle Kuzma must find a role on a reconfigured roster. The Lakers' biggest early-season subplot of all might be around Howard, whose return to LA after six seasons away could be greeted by boos or cheers.
OUTLOOK: An aspiring super team takes shape around James and Davis, who joined forces to do a whole lot more than end the Lakers' franchise-record playoff drought at six years. LA expects to be a title contender with two of the NBA's best players anchoring a lineup featuring perimeter shooting from Green and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, fast-break proficiency from Alex Caruso and Kuzma, and sturdy defense from Bradley, Rondo and McGee. Vogel's ability to fold this talent into a cohesive unit over the next few months will determine whether the Lakers can do something special in the spring.

Because of this important information, no power rating or computer score edges are posted for this game.

ATLANTA: LAST SEASON: 29-53, missed playoffs.
COACH: Lloyd Pierce (second season).
PROJECTED STARTING FIVE: G Trae Young (19.1 ppg, 8.1 apg), G Kevin Huerter (9.7 ppg), F De'Andre Hunter (No. 5 overall pick), F John Collins (19.5 ppg, 9.8 rpg), C Damian Jones (5.4 ppg).
KEY LOSSES: C Dewayne Dedmon, G Kent Bazemore, F Omari Spellman
KEY ADDITIONS: Hunter, Jones, F Cam Reddish, F Jabari Parker, G Evan Turner, G Allen Crabbe, F Chandler Parsons, C Bruno Fernando.
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Young and Collins are two of the NBA's top young players, while Huerter shows plenty of promise, so the key to this season will be how well they mesh with two more first-round picks, Hunter and No. 10 choice Reddish. Hunter figures to start right away, while Reddish will get plenty of playing time off the bench. Also keep an eye on Parker, the No. 2 overall pick in 2014 by the Milwaukee Bucks. While he has yet to develop into the star everyone expected, Parker is still just 24 years old and has averaged 15.1 points per game over his five-year career. The Hawks, who are focused on player development, hope they can flush out Parker's game. Finally, the Hawks will send out 42-year-old Vince Carter for his record 22nd ' and final ' season in the NBA. Carter showed last season he's still got game, but he won't get as many minutes in his last hurrah as he serves more of a coach-mentor role to all the young players.
OUTLOOK: The Hawks showed promise in Pierce's first season but this franchise is still in the midst of a major rebuilding job. Atlanta might have an outside shot at slipping into the playoffs, but would probably be better off getting another crack at the draft lottery. General manager Travis Schlenk has been acquiring over-priced players that other teams wanted to get off the books. Parsons ($25.1 million), Turner ($18.6 million) and Crabbe ($18.5 million) are in the final year of their contracts, which means 2020 is the year to really start paying attention to the Hawks.
PREVIEW
Lakers bring 13-game road win streak to Atlanta

Even in the seasons when the Los Angeles Lakers were struggling, their fans came out in droves when the team visited Atlanta. Often there were enough gold and purple hats and shirts in the crowd to make it seem like a Lakers' home game.

Another similar scene could be on display Sunday when the Lakers make their only appearance of the season at Atlanta's State Farm Arena. Only this time the displaced Lakers fans have plenty to be happy about.

The Lakers, who added Anthony Davis to the lineup over the offseason, entered Saturday tied with the Milwaukee Bucks for the best record in the NBA. Los Angeles has won its past six games, including a 113-110 win over the Miami Heat on Friday.

Los Angeles has won 13 straight games away from home. The Lakers gave Miami its first home loss of the season and have their longest road winning streak since the 1971-72 team won 16 straight away from home during a record 33-game winning streak.

The Hawks are in the throes of a rebuilding season. Atlanta is tied with the New York Knicks for the worst record in the Eastern Conference. The Hawks lost 110-100 to the Indiana Pacers on Friday in Indianapolis and have dropped three straight.

The two clubs split their two meetings in 2018-19, with each winning on their own home court. Earlier this season, the Lakers defeated the Hawks 122-101 on Nov. 17 in Los Angeles.

LeBron James is having another stellar season for L.A., averaging 25.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 10.8 assists, but Davis leads the team in scoring (27.4 points) and rebounds (9.2), along with 2.6 blocks.

The Lakers may be battling some fatigue. The Atlanta stop is the third one in a five-city trip that concludes with games in Indianapolis and Milwaukee. And Los Angeles had to slug it out against the Heat.

"It was like a heavyweight bout," James said. "Like the old days, the old boxing Foreman and Ali-type atmosphere, type rhythm, type physicality."

Atlanta is led by second-year guard Trae Young, averaging 27.7 points and 8.6 assists. Veteran Jabari Parker averages 16.1 points and has filled the scoring void left by the suspension of forward John Collins, who is eligible to return on Dec. 23. First-round pick De'Andre Hunter (12.8) has provided a surprising offensive lift.

The Hawks have suffered from periods of offensive blackouts. They missed their first 13 3-point shots against the Pacers and trailed by 15 at the half before roaring back to make it a three-point game in the third quarter.

"I was just proud of our guys and the way they competed, got back into the game, the effort they showed on the defensive end," coach Lloyd Pierce said. "We just couldn't get enough stops and we couldn't capitalize on the stops in the fourth quarter. A lot of empty possessions offensively. Tough."

The Lakers have dealt with some injuries this season. Avery Bradley (hairline fracture, right leg), Davis (right shoulder soreness) and Rajon Rondo (left hamstring strain) continue to play. DeMarcus Cousins (right knee rehab) and Kyle Kuzma (left ankle sprain) have been out all season.

The Hawks are as healthy as they've been all year. The only player unavailable is Collins, who has three more games to serve on his suspension for violating the NBA's drug policy.
