| |  | MINNESOTA: GUARDS: RICKY RUBIO could be back by late December, but even he's not confident his knee will be 100 percent. His minutes might have to be scaled back . . . LUKE RIDNOUR will handle the offense with Rubio hampered. The vet is a steady hand in coach Rick Adelman's Euro-style offense . . . They're counting on BRANDON ROY to reclaim his old form after a radical knee procedure. He may never be 100 percent, but he should at least give them sixth-man minutes . . . CHASE BUDINGER is a three-point marksman who moves well off the ball, a perfect fit in Adelman's system . . . J.J. BAREA will take some of the point guard burden as well. He's a top sixth man . . . ALEXEY SHVED can help as a combo guard, though he might have trouble breaking into this rotation . . . MALCOLM LEE is a defensive stopper who won't be asked to shoot very often. FORWARDS: Despite being limited athletically, KEVIN LOVE is an elite rebounder and shooter for a big. He'll continue to be the focal point of this offense once he returns from a broken hand in early December . . . ANDREI KIRILENKO returns to the States after a dominating Euroleague stint. He's a big upgrade at the three and should be comfortable in Adelman's system . . . DERRICK WILLIAMS will continue his attempted transition to the three. As last year proved, he's a long, long ways away. He might have to play himself into a rotation spot . . . DANTE CUNNINGHAM is a nice, efficient big to bring off the bench . . . Since they need shooting on the wings, rookie ROBBIE HUMMEL has a chance to crack the rotation. CENTERS: NIKOLA PEKOVIC is a beast, the best offensive rebounder in the NBA. His total rebounding numbers get hurt playing alongside Kevin Love, but Pekovic will continue to bully his way to put-backs . . . GREG STIEMSMA is going to come in and do some pushing and shoving (and occasional shot-blocking) for 12-to-15 MPG. | | ATLANTA: GUARDS: GM Danny Ferry has really talked up JEFF TEAGUE, who will be more of a traditional point guard with Joe Johnson gone . . . DEVIN HARRIS is going to play plenty of minutes, both alongside Teague and off the bench . . . LOU WILLIAMS is a sixth man. He lacks the mentality to run the point and the size to guard opposing twos. His role will be similar to what it was in Philly . . . KYLE KORVER and ANTHONY MORROW are pure shooters who do little else. They can play the three in a pinch, and the hot hand will get the minutes . . . Coach Larry Drew could call on DeSHAWN STEVENSON for the occasional defense-heavy lineup. More likely, he'll rack up the DNP-CDs . . . JOHN JENKINS might be the best shooter in the rookie class, but he'll be buried on the depth chart. FORWARDS: JOSH SMITH rescinded his trade demand, perhaps because he'll now be the focal point of the offense. He was more aggressive on both ends of the floor last year. As long as he resists the urge to float on the perimeter, he should emerge as an All-Star . . . Considering the makeup of this roster, Atlanta will utilize a lot of three-guard lineups. Korver and Morrow can stretch a defense from that third guard/small forward spot, with Stevenson stepping in as an agitator . . . After scoring double-figures six times in April, IVAN JOHNSON was re-signed to once again provide some muscle inside . . . Rookie MIKE SCOTT is polished after five years at Virginia, but doesn't have the athleticism to be an impact player . . . ANTHONY TOLLIVER is a defensive specialist with very little offense to contribute. CENTERS: AL HORFORD will get his wish to play more power forward this season, though he'll remain their primary option at center. He's healthy again and is one of the most consistent bigs in the NBA . . . ZAZA PACHULIA filled in admirably for Horford last year. But it's back to bench duty for the bruising big . . . JOHAN PETRO is French for "12th man." |

Minnesota (17-20) at Atlanta (22-18), 2:00 p.m. EDT
The Atlanta Hawks and Minnesota Timberwolves are having trouble putting enough healthy bodies on the court.
The Timberwolves ended an 11-game slide to the Hawks earlier this season, but it's anybody's guess as to what to expect in Monday's rematch in Atlanta.
There were eight players out for Minnesota (17-20) as it surprisingly snapped a five-game slide with Saturday's 92-79 victory over Houston. The most notable absences are Kevin Love (hand), Nikola Pekovic (bruised right quad) and Alexey Shved (ankle), all of whom average in double figures.
The Timberwolves are also missing coach Rick Adelman, who is tending to his hospitalized wife. Terry Porter is taking his place.
Atlanta (22-18) learned Saturday that third-leading scorer Lou Williams will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. That news came before a 98-93 home loss to San Antonio in which Devin Harris was lost to a sprained left ankle in the third quarter.
"We are down to one point guard," coach Larry Drew said, referring to Jeff Teague. "We're certainly going to have to talk about getting some more bodies in here because we are depleted."
If the Hawks are looking to bring in players, they may want to use whatever formula the Timberwolves did in adding Chris Johnson and Mickael Gelabale, who signed 10-day contracts Saturday morning.
That unheralded duo then combined for Minnesota's first 23 points in the fourth quarter against the Rockets. Johnson, signed from Santa Cruz of the NBA Development League, finished with 15 points and Gelabale, who came over from France, had 11.
"Everything just worked out in our favor," Johnson said.
Minnesota had fallen by an average of 16.0 points in its losing streak before limiting Houston to 32.1 percent shooting - a season low for a Wolves opponent.
"All in all, I just can't say enough about those guys really never quitting, always no matter what type of adversity they faced, they continued to believe in each other and continued to play the right way," Porter said. "I'm just so proud of what they've done."
Atlanta has dropped eight of 10, and more will be expected from Teague now. Rookie John Jenkins will also see more action after he logged 22 minutes versus the Spurs.
"We'll be OK," leading scorer Josh Smith said. "We've just got to stay with it, not really worry about our mistakes, just keep getting better as a team and it'll get better."
Atlanta has won nine straight at home over Minnesota, which ended its lengthy overall skid in the series with a 108-103 home victory Jan. 8.
Pekovic led the Wolves with 25 points and 18 rebounds but he won't play Monday. Neither will Williams, who tied for Atlanta's team lead with 21 points and had eight assists in that contest.
Minnesota, last in the NBA in 3-point shooting at 29.3 percent, turned in its best effort from beyond the arc by making 8 of 15 attempts (53.3 percent) against Atlanta.
