KEY GAME INFORMATION
CHI WHITE SOX: The White Sox were enjoying a rather quiet offseason before the big blowup. They were hoping LaRoche would bounce back after struggling in a big way last season ' his first in Chicago. They were banking on more consistency from some of the other players whose arrival a year ago sparked high expectations, such as Melky Cabrera and Dave Robertson. And they were confident that Todd Frazier's arrival would fill a big hole at third base they had been trying to plug for years. The biggest question now is whether they can put the LaRoche saga behind them. If they do and get the production they expect from certain players, the White Sox believe they can get back to winning after three losing seasons.
NY METS: Following their first World Series berth in 15 years, the Mets are a threat to repeat as NL champs. This time, they want to finish the job and take home the crown. Keeping all those young, power arms healthy and fresh will be crucial ' especially after Harvey, deGrom and Syndergaard carried extended workloads through October. Colon, who turns 43 in May, was brought back as a stopgap to soak up innings until another talented young starter, Zack Wheeler (11-11, 3.54 ERA in 2014), returns from Tommy John surgery. The target date is July 1. Bastardo was signed to help set up Familia, the lineup is balanced top to bottom and there is depth at most spots on the diamond. New York's shaky defense, however, was exposed in the World Series and might not be much better. Cabrera injured his knee in spring training but still could be ready for the opener. Walker replaces Murphy, the record-setting postseason star who relocated to rival Washington. Robles is suspended for the first two games of the season for throwing near the head of Phillies catcher Cameron Rupp last September. The underdog Mets were a feel-good story last year as they took down an underachieving Washington team. Now the NL East favorites, they should expect a challenge from the rededicated Nationals.
PREVIEW
White Sox-Mets Preview
By JEFF MEZYDLO STATS Senior Writer

With their lengthy skid in the past, the Chicago White Sox begin June with something positive to build on.

The visiting White Sox look to win their first series in more than three weeks in Wednesday's finale against the New York Mets.

Todd Frazier and Tyler Saladino each hit two-run homers as Chicago (28-25) overcame a 4-0 deficit to snap its seven-game losing streak with Tuesday's 6-4 win. It was the fifth win in 20 games for the White Sox, whose last winning series came against Minnesota from May 6-8.

"Losing, it's tough on everybody," Saladino told MLB's official website. "It weighs on you a little bit. You definitely lose a little bit of sleep. Getting the win, I mean, it's a boost of morale."

Chicago last won a series on the road with a sweep of Toronto from April 25-27.

"Everybody shows up and keeps going through the routine, through the grind, getting ready for the game," Saladino said. "Everybody is in it the same way. Go out and play as hard as we can."

Saladino has made the most of his recent opportunities by going 5 for 9 with two home runs and five RBIs in his last three games. He had one homer in his previous 22 games.

Frazier's only two hits in his last 27 at-bats have left the park.

After losing for the third time in four contests, the Mets turn to Jacob deGrom (3-1, 2.81 ERA) to get back on track.

The right-hander was 0-1 with a 4.63 ERA in four outings prior to his strong effort in a no-decision against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, allowing a run and three hits while striking out seven in seven innings in a 6-5 victory.

"There's still some work (that needs to be done), but this is a step in the right direction," deGrom said. "I didn't give up as many hard-hit balls tonight. Location was a lot better tonight, minus the walks. I'd like to avoid some of those 3-2 counts and keep the pitch count a little lower, but we're going in the right direction."

Though deGrom is making his first appearance against the White Sox, Jimmy Rollins is 1 for 8 against him while Frazier is 0 for 2.

Miguel Gonzalez (0-1, 4.50) makes his sixth start for Chicago after allowing three runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings while not factoring in the decision of a 7-5 loss at Kansas City on Friday.

Though the right-hander has never faced the Mets, Yoenis Cespedes is 6 for 13 against him. James Loney is 5 for 26 when facing Gonzalez.

Acquired from San Diego on Saturday, Loney went 0 for 4 in his 2016 debut Tuesday.

"I've always wanted to be in a winning atmosphere," he said. "I've had that in my career in the past, and it feels great to go to the playoffs, but I've never won a World Series, so I'm looking forward to working toward that."

New teammate Neil Walker has homered in back-to-back games and is batting .407 in his last eight contests.

The Mets (29-22), who lead the NL with 73 home runs, have hit at least one in 11 consecutive games.
