Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann and Carlos Beltran are new to the Bronx; David Robertson is new to the closer's role. And Alex Rodriguez is nowhere to be seen.
Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte have retired, and Robinson Cano has moved to Seattle.
After missing the playoffs for only the second time in 19 years, the New York Yankees will look a whole lot different. And for the first time since 1998, they don't have baseball's highest payroll.
''I think it is probably the biggest transition I've been through,'' manager Joe Girardi says.
For only the second time in team history and the first time since 1947, every position on opening day other than the mound will be manned by a different Yankees player on opening day than in New York's previous opener.
New York's forgettable 2013 season began with an 8-2 loss to Boston, with Kevin Youkilis at first, Cano at second, Eduardo Nunez at shortstop, Jayson Nix at third, Francisco Cervelli behind the plate, Vernon Wells in left, Brett Gardner in center and Ichiro Suzuki in right.
The only holdover for Tuesday's opener at Houston figures to be Gardner, who has shifted to left. The rest of the starting lineup figures to have McCann behind the plate, Mark Teixeira at first, Brian Roberts at second, Jeter at shortstop, Kelly Johnson at third, Ellsbury in center and Beltran in right.
CC Sabathia will be the constant on the mound. He's coming off the poorest of his 13 major league seasons at 14-13 with a 4.78 ERA.
''Nobody wants to go through that again,'' he says. ''It sticks with me a lot. Just being disappointed in not being able to help this team win. I feel like if I could have been a little better we might have made the playoffs. I blamed myself for a long time in the offseason and now I'm over it and ready to go this year.
| | NY METS: NEW YORK (AP) - Five straight losing seasons. That's what the New York Mets have produced since moving into Citi Field.
David Wright, for one, is tired of it.
''We need to start going out there showing results,'' the star third baseman said. ''The last couple years we've kind of been hampered by some contracts and payroll issues. It seems like that's behind us. At the same time, we've got those prospects knocking at the door. I think we're in a better place now than we have been the past few years and quite frankly, I think we have a better team.''
Translation: No more waiting for next year. No more selling the future. No more excuses.
It's time to take a step forward - and that means winning.
General manager Sandy Alderson seems to think so, too. After he signed free agents Curtis Granderson, Bartolo Colon and Chris Young this offseason, a report emerged that Alderson told staffers he thinks the Mets can win 90 games (with a payroll under $90 million).
Even hard-core fans found that overly optimistic, especially with ace Matt Harvey expected to miss the entire season following Tommy John surgery. New York posted its second consecutive 74-88 record last year - and that was with Harvey on the mound most of the way.
But there is reason for hope, particularly in Triple-A. Touted young pitchers Noah Syndergaard and Rafael Montero could soon join a promising rotation that includes Colon, Zack Wheeler, Dillon Gee and Jonathon Niese.
''He's got all the traits of the good ones,'' manager Terry Collins said about Syndergaard. ''He's on track to be special.''
The offense could be better with the addition of Granderson, who got a $60 million, four-year deal after an injury-plagued season for the Yankees across town. His left-handed power bat should provide some much-needed protection for Wright.
The multitalented Young, on a one-year contract following a down season in Oakland, appears highly motivated to regain his All-Star form.
''It's been interesting to watch the whole team,'' Granderson said early in spring training. ''There's power here. Chris Young has been amazing.''
The lineup remains flawed and prone to strikeouts, though the roster has improved. Perhaps not enough to push Washington and Atlanta in the NL East just yet, but the Mets expect to take significant strides this season as they anticipate Harvey's return in 2015.
''When I re-signed here, I knew it wasn't an overnight fix. I think I like that part of the challenge of it,'' Wright said. ''I want to be part of the reason why we get this thing turned around and headed in the right direction and ultimately start winning again. I think we have that ability.''

While Derek Jeter is slated to play his final game against the New York Mets, Chase Whitley will get to pitch in his first in the majors and try to lead the New York Yankees to a season split with their interleague rivals.
The Mets' Jacob deGrom will also make his major league debut Thursday night and try to spoil Jeter's Citi Field finale while helping his club bounce back from its first loss to the Yankees in nearly two years.
Jeter will have another ceremony on his farewell tour before his 93rd game against the Mets. They're probably glad to see him go - he's batted .370 with 15 homers in those matchups, including an MVP performance in winning the 2000 World Series in five games.
That average is his best versus any opponent he's played at least 10 games against, and the 15 home runs are 10 more than against any NL team.
Whitley will try to help the future Hall of Famer exit the Subway Series a winner while filling in for CC Sabathia (right knee), one of three Yankees starters on the disabled list along with Michael Pineda and Ivan Nova.
Whitley is being called up by the Yankees (20-19) after going 3-2 with a 2.39 ERA in six starts and one relief appearance at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, striking out 32 in 26 1-3 innings. The 24-year-old right-hander is 22-16 with a 2.65 ERA in 151 career minor league games.
"I've seen his stuff, and he'll be able to compete," manager Joe Girardi said.
Whitley will have a tough act to follow after fellow rookie Masahiro Tanaka improved to 6-0 with his first shutout Wednesday, a 4-0 victory. Yangervis Solarte and Mark Teixeira homered and Brian Roberts had two triples as the Yankees snapped a season-high, four-game skid.
The win also ended a six-game losing streak to the Mets (19-20), whose previous defeat in the series was June 24, 2012, at Citi Field.
The 26-year-old deGrom will try to help his club rebound from the end to a season high-tying, three-game win streak while filling for an injured Dillon Gee (strained right lat). He was 4-0 with a 2.58 ERA in seven starts at Triple-A Las Vegas.
"I was surprised when they called me," deGrom told the Mets' website. "I didn't know if it would come as a reliever or a starter, which one it would be. I was thinking it would be a little later, but I'm really glad it happened now."
It's the 14th time since the start of the 1939 season that two starting pitchers will make their major league debuts in the same game. The most recent occurrence came Sept. 7, 2010, when Gee pitched opposite Washington's Yunesky Maya.
It's also the second straight night a Mets starter will make his major league debut. Rafael Montero pitched Wednesday.
DeGrom will likely have to contend with a red-hot Solarte, who is batting .484 with three homers and 10 RBIs during a nine-game hit streak. Solarte is 6 for 11 with two homers and six runs scored in the three games against the Mets this season.
Brett Gardner is hitting .355 in his last 16 games to help make up for the absences of Carlos Beltran (elbow) and Ichiro Suzuki (back). Gardner is batting .361 in his last eight games versus the Mets.
The Mets' Daniel Murphy is hitting .373 (19 for 51) with 11 extra-base hits and eight RBIs while hitting safely in 11 of his last 12 games.
David Wright is hitting .375 in his last eight home games against the Yankees and .341 in his last 10 overall matchups.
