Dodgers, Buehler set sights on sweep of Marlins

The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to complete a three-game sweep when they host the Miami Marlins in the series finale between the teams Sunday afternoon.

The Dodgers won the series opener 2-1 and outslugged the Marlins for a 10-6 win Saturday night. Los Angeles is 6-3 since the All-Star break and will try to build upon that success as it eyes another deep run in the playoffs and a shot at its first World Series title since 1988.

Dodgers left-hander Walker Buehler (8-1, 3.44 ERA) is scheduled to make his 19th start of the season. The 24-year-old Vanderbilt product has struck out 120 batters in 110 innings this season and boasts a career record of 17-6 with a 3.16 ERA in 50 games (41 starts).

In two career starts against the Marlins, Buehler is 0-0 with a 3.60 ERA.

Buehler told reporters that part of his recent success has come from a hands-on approach with his catchers and coaching staff.

"Obviously, doing your own stuff and knowing it in your head gets you a little bit more convicted," Buehler said in comments published by the Los Angeles Times. "That's never a bad thing."

Miami will counter with rookie sensation Jordan Yamamoto (4-0, 1.59), a tenacious right-hander who has taken the league by storm in his first six starts. The 23-year-old Hawaii native has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of his outings since his June 12 debut.

In 34 innings this season, Yamamoto has allowed 15 hits and issued 17 walks while striking out 34.

The Milwaukee Brewers selected Yamamoto in the 12th round of the 2014 entry draft and shipped him to Miami more than three years later as part of the Christian Yelich trade. The Marlins also received outfielder Lewis Brinson and prospects Isan Diaz and Monte Harrison in the deal.

Yamamoto never has faced the Dodgers.

"I couldn't get the off-speed over," Yamamoto told reporters after his last start. "Curveball, slider -- the money-makers in the first five outings -- I couldn't really get them over, so from there they were sitting fastball and I gave it to them. They were hitting it."

Yamamoto will have to be careful against the Dodgers, who squandered a 6-0 lead on Saturday but made it look easy as they regrouped for a 10-6 victory. Matt Beaty, Joc Pederson and Justin Turner all homered in the victory for first-place Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Starlin Castro will try to stay hot after homering for the third time this month with the Marlins.

Brian Anderson drove in two runs in Saturday's loss and is looking to take off from Los Angeles with a victory.

"We got into their bullpen and were able to fight back right there," Anderson told reporters. "That's the kind of team we are."

The Marlins also will need to steer clear of Dodgers slugger Cody Bellinger, who is hitting .332 with 34 homers and 77 RBIs in 97 games this season. Bellinger walked three times and scored a pair of runs in Saturday's victory.

The Marlins are 18-28 on the road this season. Los Angeles is 39-12 at home.
