Projected lineup: 2B Brian Dozier (.268, 42, 99, 18/20 SBs), RF Max Kepler (.235, 17, 63), CF Byron Buxton (.225, 10 HRs, 38 RBIs, 118 Ks in 298 ABs), 1B Joe Mauer (.261, 11, 49), 3B Miguel Sano (.236, 25, 66, 178 Ks in 437 ABs), DH Kennys Vargas (.230, 10, 20 in 152 ABs), LF Eddie Rosario (.269, 10, 32), C Jason Castro (.210, 11, 32 with Houston), SS Jorge Polanco (.282, 4, 27 in 245 ABs).
Rotation: RH Ervin Santana (7-11, 3.38 ERA, 149 Ks), RH Phil Hughes (1-7, 5.95, 11 HRs, 11 starts), LH Hector Santiago (3-6, 5.58, 13 HRs, 11 starts after trade with Angels), RH Kyle Gibson (6-11, 5.07, 1.561 WHIP), LH Adalberto Mejia (rookie).
Key relievers: RH Brandon Kintzler (0-2, 3.15, 17/20 saves), RH Matt Belisle (0-0, 1.76 in 40 games for Nationals), RH Ryan Pressly (6-7, 3.70, 1 save in 72 games), LH Taylor Rogers (3-1, 3.96, 64 Ks in 57 games), LH Craig Breslow (0-2, 4.50 in 15 games for Marlins). Hot Spot: Starting Rotation. The resuscitation of a team with the worst record in the majors last season must begin with starting pitching that ranked 30th out of 30 in wins (37), ERA (5.39) and strikeouts (655). Hughes, Santiago, Gibson and Berrios will all be counted on to make 2016 the aberration and not the standard. Adding Castro, who has a strong reputation for game calling and pitch framing, probably can't hurt. There's enough depth in the group at least to give the Twins a chance to return to respectability as new baseball chief Derek Falvey continues to try to revamp organizational philosophy and process for the long term. The bullpen appears more vulnerable than the rotation, despite being bolstered by the addition of the veteran Belisle. Three-time All-Star closer Glen Perkins is still working his way back from surgery last year to repair a torn labrum and will likely land on the disabled list to start the season. Kintzler fared well in his place, but doesn't have a track record.
Outlook: The Twins ranked a respectable sixth in the American League in total bases and eighth in OPS despite their abysmal record last year. Buxton's sparkling September, following a second straight frustrating summer, restored his and the club's confidence in the 2012 second overall draft pick. Dozier probably hit his power ceiling in 2016, but if Buxton and Sano can strike out less and get on base more there's the potential in place for a productive offense. Vargas hit his way back into contention for the DH spot with a decent finish to 2016, but the pressure is on him to prove he's worth a spot in the lineup with a strong performance this spring by Park, who struggled badly to adjust to major league pitching in his arrival from South Korea last year.
LA DODGERS: 2016: 91-71, first place, lost to Chicago Cubs in NLCS
Manager: Dave Roberts (second season)
Who's new? IF Logan Forsythe, OF Franklin Gutierrez, OF Brett Eibner, RHP Sergio Romo
Who's gone? OF Josh Reddick, C Carlos Ruiz, RHP Joe Blanton, RHP Jose De Leon, LHP J.P. Howell, RHP Louis Coleman, RHP Jesse Chavez
Projected lineup: 2B Logan Forsythe (.264, 20 HR, 52 RBI with Rays) or Chase Utley (.252, 14, 52), SS Corey Seager (.308, 26 72), 3B Justin Turner (.275, 27, 90), 1B Adrian Gonzalez (.285, 18, 90), RF Yasiel Puig (.263, 11, 45) or Andre Ethier (.208, 1, 2 in 16 games), C Yasmani Grandal (.228, 27, 72), CF Joc Pederson (.246, 25, 68), LF Andrew Toles (.314, 3, 16) or Trayce Thompson (.225, 13, 32)
Rotation: LH Clayton Kershaw (12-4, 1.69 ERA), RH Kenta Maeda (16-11, 3.48), LH Rich Hill (12-5, 2.12 with A's and Dodgers), RH Brandon McCarthy (2-3, 4.95), LH Hyun-Jin Ryu (0-1, 11.57 in one game) or LH Alex Wood (1-4, 3.73)
Key relievers: RH Kenley Jansen (3-2, 1.83, 47/53 SV), RH Pedro Baez (3-2, 3.04), LH Grant Dayton (0-1, 2.05), LH Luis Avilan (3-0, 3.20), RH Josh Fields (1-0, 4.63 with Astros and Dodgers), RH Sergio Romo (1-0, 2.64 with Giants), RH Chris Hatcher (5-4, 5.53)
Hot spots: Outfield and rotation. The Dodgers set a record for Disabled List trips in 2016. Ethier, who missed most of last season with a broken tibia, compared his recent back injury to 'Groundhog Day.' Even without Ethier there isn't room for Puig, Pederson, Toles, Thompson, Scott Van Slyke, Franklin Gutierrez and Brett Eibner. The pitching staff was decimated last year too, but a deep farm system produced a wave of capable reinforcements. If Scott Kazmir, McCarthy or Ryu can't pitch, Julio Urias, Brock Stewart and Ross Stripling can step in.
Outlook: After two straight winters laying low on the free agent market, Andrew Friedman bet big on his 2016 roster. Turner, Jansen, Hill and Utley all re-signed, giving the Dodgers a chance to prove last season's NLCS run wasn't a fluke. A full season of Kershaw and Hill ' to name just two ' would improve the team's chances of claiming a fifth straight division title. If the Dodgers want to take the next step, they'll have to get past the defending champion Chicago Cubs, a potential perennial powerhouse whose roster remains similarly intact.
PREVIEW
Dodgers vie for 13th sweep of season vs. Twins

LOS ANGELES -- Manager Dave Roberts was surprised to hear his Los Angeles Dodgers earned their 70th win of the season on Tuesday night.

He was only thinking about one game, and that was the Wednesday series finale against the Minnesota Twins.

"I've just got such narrow vision," he said. "I think (the 70 wins) is a credit to those guys in the clubhouse, but we've got a lot of work to do."

The Dodgers (70-31) have won four straight after taking the first two games of the series against Minnesota (49-50). Los Angeles will try for its 13th sweep of the season in the finale.

A key player through the first two games of the series was Yasiel Puig, who went 5-for-7 with an RBI and two runs while playing exceptional defense in right field.

"I think if you look back at this season right now, and the production and what he's doing across the board playing defense and the production at the plate, you could argue it's one of his best (seasons)," Roberts said. "He's an exciting player."

Dodgers right-hander Brock Stewart (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his first start of the season after throwing a combined 13 scoreless innings over six relief appearances since June 20. He has struck out 10, walked three and limited opponents to a .122 batting average.

Stewart, who has never faced the Twins in his two-year career, will be seeking his first win since beating the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sept. 16.

He made three starts for Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, allowing three earned runs in 8 1/3 innings. He hasn't thrown more than 34 pitches in any of his four relief appearances this month, so Stewart likely will be on a limited pitch count.

Stewart started five games for Los Angeles last season, posting a 2-2 record and a 5.79 ERA.

For the Twins, right-hander Ervin Santana (11-7, 3.26 ERA) will make his first start at Dodger Stadium in just over 10 years.

He is 5-4 with a 3.24 ERA in nine starts against the Dodgers in his career, but his past five appearances came on his home field.

Santana last faced the Dodgers as a member of the Atlanta Braves on Aug. 13, 2014, earning the victory after tossing six innings in a 3-2 decision. The only current member of the Dodgers who started that game was Puig, and he struck out in all three plate appearances against Santana.

Santana last pitched at Dodger Stadium on June 15, 2007, when he was with the Los Angeles Angels.

Among the regular starters for the Dodgers, no player has more than five at-bats against Santana.

Santana has lost three of his last four starts, with his ERA climbing from 2.80 to 3.26 in that span.

"With as well as he's pitched in a majority of his starts, there have been some games where the numbers get a little crooked," Twins manager Paul Molitor told the Pioneer Press after Santana's most recent start Friday, when the veteran allowed five runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings during a 6-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers.
