~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ PA SPORTSTICKER BASKETBALL PREVIEW (SEATTLE-TULSA) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*Storm-Shock Preview* =====================
By NOEY KUPCHAN STATS Writer
Seattle (9-18) at Tulsa (9-17), 8:00 p.m. EDT
It's not looking good for Seattle and Tulsa, who own the two worst records in the WNBA.
While the Storm haven't won in more than two weeks, the Shock picked up a much-needed victory over the weekend.
Seattle tries to snap a season-worst five-game losing streak when it visits Tulsa on Tuesday night.
The Storm (9-18) have made the playoffs in each of the last 10 seasons to set a WNBA record, but that run is likely to come to an end barring a quick turnaround. Just seven games remain for Seattle, which fell three behind Los Angeles for fourth place in the Western Conference with Saturday's 77-69 home defeat to the Sparks.
"There's a lot of things we can't control. We can't control the people we're trying to get ahead of, unless we play them. But we can control ourselves in regards to how we play and we just have to focus on that," coach Brian Agler told the team's official website. "It's not something we're going to talk a whole lot about. Our players have been around this enough. They look at the standings. They know."
Crystal Langhorne had 21 points and eight rebounds and Camille Little scored 16. Seattle shot 39.1 percent while the Sparks shot 49.2 percent.
"Losing really helped them and hurt us," guard Sue Bird said. "If we want to have a chance we need to take care of our own schedule and hope some teams (above us) lose as well."
The home team has taken both of this season's previous meetings, with Tulsa winning 85-79 on June 15. All-Star guard Skylar Diggins led the way with 26 points while Tanisha Wright scored a season-high 24 for Seattle.
The Shock (9-17) had dropped seven of eight overall before battling back to beat Chicago 79-69 on Sunday. After trailing for most of the game, Tulsa closed the third quarter on an 11-2 run and outscored the Sky 23-13 in the fourth.
The Shock shot just 38.1 percent but held a 26-8 edge in transition.
"We came out sluggish in the first half," guard Odyssey Sims said. "We seem to always start out slow and we have to find a way to come out aggressive and stay that way. Transition points were big for us."
Sims finished with 24 points, Diggins added 18 and Glory Johnson scored 14 of her 15 in the second half. Sims is averaging 25.7 over the last three games - 10.9 better than her season mark.
Little, leading the Storm with 13.4 points per game, has been held to a combined 11 in 66 minutes against Tulsa this year. Seattle is averaging a league-worst 70.6 points, 12.0 fewer than Tulsa.
