| | | NASHVILLE: LAST SEASON: 38-32-12, 88 points. Missed the playoffs by finishing 10th in the Western Conference.
COACH: Peter Laviolette, 1st season with Predators, 389-282-25-63 overall.
ADDED: F James Neal, F Olli Jokinen, F Mike Ribeiro, F Derek Roy.
LOST: Coach Barry Trotz, goaltenders coach Mitch Korn, F Patric Hornqvist, F Nick Spaling.
PLAYER TO WATCH: G Pekka Rinne. Even with Ribeiro needing to prove his personal issues have been handled, Rinne is the two-time Vezina Trophy finalist who anchors Nashville's defense. He only played 24 games last season after an infection in his surgically-repaired hip needed more surgery, keeping him on crutches for weeks. Rinne went 3-0-1 in his final four games and was the MVP of the World Championships.
OUTLOOK: The Predators missed the playoffs by three points with Rinne missing much of last season. Laviolette is expected to boost the Predators' offense and take advantage of the experienced forwards added during the offseason, and general manager David Poile has made it clear they must reach the playoffs. | | CHICAGO: LAST SEASON: 46-21-15, 107 points. Finished third in Central Division, lost to Los Angeles Kings in Western Conference final.
COACH: Joel Quenneville, 7th season with the Blackhawks, 268-127-59; 18th in the NHL, 706-410-77-100.
ADDED: C Brad Richards, G Michael Leighton.
LOST: LW Brandon Bollig, D Sheldon Brookbank.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Brandon Saad. The talented winger was terrific in the final part of the playoff series against the Kings, collecting three goals and four assists in the last four games. Playing on a line with Patrick Kane and newcomer Brad Richards, he could do even better than his career highs of 19 goals and 28 assists from last season.
OUTLOOK: It's Stanley Cup or bust for the loaded Blackhawks, who have no glaring weaknesses. They should be among the league's highest-scoring teams again this season, and Norris Trophy winner Duncan Keith leads a solid group of defensemen. The Central could be hockey's toughest division, but the Blackhawks are a legitimate threat for their third NHL title in the last six seasons. |

*Predators-Blackhawks Preview* ==============================
By JACK CASSIDY STATS Writer
Nashville At Chicago, Game Three, 3:00 p.m. EDT
Under normal circumstances, the Chicago Blackhawks would be pleased to escape Nashville with a 1-1 series tie. But taking into account their fluid goalie situation, there is plenty of reason for concern in the Windy City.
The Blackhawks will go with the inexperienced, yet red-hot Scott Darling for Sunday's contest with the Nashville Predators, who will be without captain Shea Weber for at least Games 3 and 4.
Making his postseason debut, Darling was magnificent in relief of Corey Crawford on Wednesday, stopping all 42 shots he faced in a 4-3 double-overtime victory. Still, he was not called upon in Game 2.
That will not be the case in Game 3 after Crawford matched a career high for goals allowed in Friday's 6-2 loss to Nashville, following a Game 1 in which he was pulled after surrendering three in the first period.
Darling, who made his NHL debut Oct. 26, owned a 1.95 goals-against average in 14 appearances this season and 1.20 in six games over the past month. He's allowed only five goals in five home games.
"Scotty's coming off a spectacular outing and I think his play is deserving of getting a start here at home," Quenneville said in a conference call Saturday. "(Crawford's) got two games where's he's been OK and we've got a game where Scott has been outstanding. So, it's one of those situations where both guys are getting consideration for the net."
Darling has only nine career regular-season victories, one of which came against Nashville on Dec. 6 when the 26-year-old rookie stopped 32 shots in a 3-1 win.
Weber, who played a team-high 24:42 in that loss and 38:13 on Wednesday, saw fewer than 14 minutes of action Friday due to a lower-body injury suffered in the second period on a check into the boards by Brandon Saad. The All-Star defenseman did not travel with the Predators to Chicago, and a team spokesman said an update on his status will be made Wednesday, the day after Game 4.
"I think those things happen," coach Peter Laviolette said. "It happens throughout the course of the playoffs. Everybody gets injuries, and you have to deal with them ... Last night, I think it was a real good sign that some guys did elevate their minutes and played in different situations and tried to fill (Weber's) role. We were able to find success doing that."
Mike Fisher, though, will make the trip to Chicago after sitting out Game 2 with a lower-body injury. He's listed as day to day.
Roman Josi, Filip Forsberg, Mike Santorelli and Craig Smith all picked up their first postseason goals during Nashville's offensive outburst Friday, while Colin Wilson scored his third of the series.
"Right now, I think we're playing some good hockey," Laviolette said. "We're going to need it. The opponent is excellent and going into Chicago is a big task for our group."
The Predators fell in overtime and in a shootout in their two games at Chicago this season but have lost there in regulation only once in their last 10 visits.
Nashville's James Neal had five goals in the season series but has been held off the scoresheet in Games 1 and 2.
Forsberg, at 20 years and 247 days of age, became the youngest player in franchise history to net a postseason goal.
Patrick Kane has a goal and two assists in the series after missing the final 21 games of the regular season with a broken collarbone. Captain Jonathan Toews had no points Friday, and the Blackhawks have lost six straight when he fails to get one.
