| | | ANAHEIM: LAST SEASON: 54-20-8, 116 points. Won Pacific Division. Lost to Los Angeles in second round of playoffs.
COACH: Bruce Boudreau, 4th season with Ducks, 111-55-22; 8th overall in NHL.
ADDED: C Ryan Kesler, C Nate Thompson, D Clayton Stoner, LW Dany Heatley.
LOST: G Jonas Hiller, RW Teemu Selanne, C Saku Koivu, C Nick Bonino, C Mathieu Perreault, C Daniel Winnik, D Luca Sbisa, D Stephane Robidas.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Devante Smith-Pelly. After bouncing between the NHL and the minors for three years, the speedy, tough-nosed right wing is poised to build on his breakthrough effort as Anaheim's top goal-scorer in the postseason. He's likely to get a chance to contribute on the deep Ducks' top three lines.
OUTLOOK: Kesler and Thompson make the Ducks tougher down the middle, and this deep, balanced club should be in position to contend for the Stanley Cup again. Anaheim is taking its biggest risk in net, hoping Frederik Andersen and prospect John Gibson are ready for full-time NHL duty. | | ARIZONA: LAST SEASON: 37-30-15, 89 points. Ninth overall in Western Conference.
COACH: Dave Tippett, fifth season with Arizona, 156-96-42; In 10th NHL season as coach, 427-252-107.
ADDED: C Sam Gagner, C Joe Vitale, RW B.J. Crombeen, G Devan Dubnyk.
LOST: RW Radim Vrbata, C Mike Ribeiro, D Derek Morris, LW Paul Bissonnette, G Thomas Greiss.
PLAYER TO WATCH: C Antoine Vermette. As Ribeiro struggled late last season, Vermette surged to the forefront as Arizona's top center. He led the Coyotes with 24 goals last season and is a superb two-way player - a perfect fit for Tippett's defense-first system. A bigger season could be on the horizon as the Coyotes lean on him more.
OUTLOOK: The Coyotes should contend for a playoff spot in the Western Conference. Arizona lost captain Shane Doan for 12 games due to Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and goalie Mike Smith was out the final 10 games with a knee injury. Even with the injuries, the Coyotes finished two points out of the West's final playoff spot. Stay relatively healthy and get back to their defensive ways, they might be in the mix again this season. |

*Ducks-Coyotes Preview* =======================
By TAYLOR BECHTOLD STATS Writer
Anaheim (40-17-7) at Arizona (20-36-7), 9:00 p.m. EDT
Already cruising toward their third straight Pacific Division title, the Anaheim Ducks made several moves ahead of Monday's trade deadline with the Stanley Cup playoffs in mind.
While it's uncertain whether the new additions will be available, Tomas Fleischmann is expected to make his Anaheim debut Tuesday night as the Ducks visit the trade-depleted Arizona Coyotes.
Anaheim (40-17-7) owns a comfortable 12-point advantage over Vancouver in the Pacific and is close behind Nashville for the best record in the Western Conference.
Seeking a lengthier postseason stay after winning just one playoff series over the past two seasons, the Ducks added offensive depth by acquiring Fleischmann from Florida on Saturday and AHL forward Michael Sgarbossa from Colorado on Monday.
Fleischmann, who played under coach Bruce Boudreau in the AHL from 2005-07 and in Washington from 2007-11, had seven goals and 14 assists in 52 games with the Panthers this season.
He'll join an Anaheim team that has totaled 18 goals over a 5-1-0 stretch after scoring 13 while going 1-4-1 over its previous six. Corey Perry had his team-high 27th goal Sunday, while Ryan Getzlaf added his 20th in a 3-1 victory at Dallas.
"We have a little bit more depth now," Getzlaf said Sunday. "The playoffs are experience, and you can't get that unless you're there. We had a lot of young guys who got great experience over the last couple of years. This year, we feel ready."
The Ducks also sought to aid an improving defense that has limited opponents to 13 goals in the last six games after allowing 21 in the prior five. They picked up James Wisniewski from Columbus, Simon Despres from Pittsburgh and Korbinian Holzer from Toronto during Monday's flurry of activity.
Wisniewski, who played 86 regular-season games with Anaheim before being dealt to the New York Islanders in July 2010, has eight goals and 29 points in 56 games this season. Despres has two goals and 15 assists in 59 games while Holzer has recorded six assists in 34 contests.
The Ducks will now try to claim a season-high fifth consecutive road win against a free-falling Arizona team looking to avoid a franchise record-tying 10th straight regulation defeat.
Following Saturday's 4-1 loss at Boston, the Coyotes (20-36-7) have been outscored 36-13 during the franchise's longest skid since a 10-game slide from Feb. 6-25, 1994, while in Winnipeg. They're 0-7-1 at home since a 4-1 victory over the Jets on Jan. 8.
Arizona has been a seller in an attempt to bolster its rebuilding effort. Zbynek Michalek was the last big name to move prior to Monday's deadline, following Devan Dubnyk, Antoine Vermette and Keith Yandle out of the desert.
Perhaps the biggest prize was getting top prospect Anthony Duclair from the New York Rangers for Yandle on Sunday. The 19-year-old left wing was a third-round pick in 2013 and has a goal with six assists in 18 games this season.
"We're resetting this team," general manager Don Maloney said. "We're gaining assets that in three, four, five years will put us in position to win the Stanley Cup."
The Coyotes have given the Ducks a difficult time, winning two of the three meetings this season. They earned their second shootout win in the series, 2-1, in the most recent meeting in Glendale on Dec. 27.
Anaheim goaltender Frederik Andersen appears ready to return after missing 10 games with a neck injury. He's posted a 1.27 goals-against average in the three matchups.
