KEY GAME INFORMATION
NASHVILLE: LAST SEASON: 38-32-12, 88 points. Missed the playoffs by finishing 10th in the Western Conference.
COACH: Peter Laviolette, 1st season with Predators, 389-282-25-63 overall.
ADDED: F James Neal, F Olli Jokinen, F Mike Ribeiro, F Derek Roy.
LOST: Coach Barry Trotz, goaltenders coach Mitch Korn, F Patric Hornqvist, F Nick Spaling.
PLAYER TO WATCH: G Pekka Rinne. Even with Ribeiro needing to prove his personal issues have been handled, Rinne is the two-time Vezina Trophy finalist who anchors Nashville's defense. He only played 24 games last season after an infection in his surgically-repaired hip needed more surgery, keeping him on crutches for weeks. Rinne went 3-0-1 in his final four games and was the MVP of the World Championships.
OUTLOOK: The Predators missed the playoffs by three points with Rinne missing much of last season. Laviolette is expected to boost the Predators' offense and take advantage of the experienced forwards added during the offseason, and general manager David Poile has made it clear they must reach the playoffs.
OTTAWA: LAST SEASON: 37-31-14, 88 points, finished 11th in the Eastern Conference and missed the playoffs.
COACH: Paul MacLean, fourth season with Ottawa, 102-79-30.
ADDED: RW Alex Chiasson, C David Legwand.
LOST: RW Alex Hemsky, C Jason Spezza.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Bobby Ryan. The right winger is in the final year of a five-year, $25.5 million deal, and according to general manager Bryan Murray has decided to wait before determining whether to re-sign. Murray noted the sides will talk ''in October or November to get something done.''
OUTLOOK: It was only 2012 and 2013 when many thought Ottawa was a franchise on the ascent after back-to-back playoff appearances. Now the Senators are facing an uncertain future as Ottawa lost centers Daniel Alfredsson and Spezza the last two offseasons. There is a very real possibility the organization may have to deal Ryan and Methot during the season if the players cannot come to terms with the team. It is not a playoff formula.

*Predators-Senators Preview* ============================

By NICOLINO DIBENEDETTO STATS Writer

Nashville (12-4-2) at Ottawa (8-5-4), 7:30 p.m. EDT

The unexpected leaders in the Central Division, the Nashville Predators are rolling following one of their best performances in franchise history.

The Predators look for another impressive offensive display Thursday night, when they visit the sputtering Ottawa Senators looking to win for the sixth time in seven games.

Nashville (12-4-2) missed the playoffs in each of the past two years, and fired Barry Trotz - its only coach in team history. Peter Laviolette, though, has gotten the Predators to quickly regroup as their 26 points are only one behind Pittsburgh and Anaheim for the most in the NHL.

They hadn't scored more than four goals in a game this season until Tuesday, when 15 players registered a point in a 9-2 romp at Toronto.

It was the third time in team history Nashville scored nine times, with the previous effort coming against Calgary on March 18, 2006.

"We were good offensively, everyone was making plays," said left wing Taylor Beck, who had career highs of two goals and three points versus the Maple Leafs. "Those games are fun. You know they're not all gonna be like that, but they're fun to play, certainly for the winning team."

Filip Forsberg, who had two points Tuesday, seems to be having a great time lately. The right wing has eight goals and seven assists in nine games and leads the team with nine goals and 13 assists overall.

He had two third-period assists as Nashville rallied for a 3-2 home win over the Senators (8-5-4) in its season opener Oct. 9.

The Predators, 6-3-1 on the road, have won three of four visits to Ottawa, and Pekka Rinne had 34 saves in the most recent one March 10. However, he was beaten three times in the third period before Seth Jones scored with 1:11 left in overtime of a 4-3 victory.

Rinne only needed 18 stops against the Senators on opening night, and he made 29 saves Tuesday to get his 12th win, which ties Vancouver's Ryan Miller for the league lead.

His 1.92 goals-against average ranks fourth in the NHL, but he owns a 3.92 mark while winning two of three games at Ottawa.

The Senators have dropped four of five (1-2-2) after giving up three third-period tallies in Saturday's 4-2 defeat at Calgary to conclude a 1-1-1 trip through Western Canada.

"We had a chance to steal two points and make it a heck of a road trip, but instead we come back .500," said right wing Bobby Ryan, who scored his fourth goal of the season. "I don't think that will sit very well with anybody."

The power play shouldn't, either.

Ottawa has failed to convert on its last 14 chances on the man advantage over the past four games, including six against the Flames.

"(The power play) has been a positive for us all season but (Saturday) we got away from it," Ryan said. "The things that we see a lot of nights, we didn't get pucks to the net very well, and the pucks we did come up with, we were staying on the wall too long and letting them get back into situations where they could set up."

Four of Clarke MacArthur's team-high eight goals have come on the power play, but his even-strength tally Saturday ended a four-game drought. He has no goals in seven career meetings with Nashville.
