KEY GAME INFORMATION
DETROIT:

LAST SEASON: 48-28-6, 102 points. Lost to Nashville 4-1 in first round.

COACH: Mike Babcock, 8th season with Red Wings, 352-154-68; 10th overall, 421-216-19 in NHL.

ADDED: RW Damien Brunner, RW Mikael Samuelsson, RW Jordin Tootoo, G Jonas Gustavsson, D Carlo Colaiacovo.

LOST: D Nicklas Lidstrom, D Brad Stuart, LW Jiri Hudler, LW Tomas Holmstrom.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Brunner. The 26-year-old rookie led the Swiss league with 60 points last season. He might get a lot of chances to produce on a line with Henrik Zetterberg, a teammate overseas during the lockout, and Pavel Datsyuk.

OUTLOOK: Without Lidstrom and Stuart on the blue line, extending the franchise's postseason streak to 22 will be quite a challenge. The Red Wings, though, have a shot to be better offensively and in net with a series of subtle moves after failing to make a splash in the summer when free agents Zach Parise and Ryan Suter turned down their offers to play together in Minnesota.

ANAHEIM:

LAST SEASON: 34-36-12, 80 points. Missed playoffs by finishing 11th in the Western Conference.

COACH: Bruce Boudreau, 2nd season with Ducks, 27-23-8; 6th overall, 228-111-48 in NHL.

ADDED: D Bryan Allen, D Sheldon Souray, G Viktor Fasth, LW Daniel Winnik, RW Brad Staubitz.

LOST: D Lubomir Visnovsky, LW Niklas Hagman, D Sheldon Brookbank, G Dan Ellis.

PLAYER TO WATCH: C Ryan Getzlaf. The Ducks' top playmaker heads into his contract year coming off the worst statistical season of his decorated career. The NHL and Olympic champion needs a huge season with Corey Perry, who's also heading for free agency.

OUTLOOK: Anaheim bolstered its defense with Allen and Souray, but largely kept its offense intact despite last season's disappointments. Even with few changes, the Ducks believe their star-studded veteran roster should be in the playoff hunt again

*Red Wings-Ducks Preview* =========================

By MATT BEARDMORE STATS Writer

Detroit (15-11-5) at Anaheim (22-4-4), 8:00 p.m. EDT

The Anaheim Ducks' point streak is over - as is their franchise-best run at home.

They won't have to wait long to get some payback on the team that ended those.

Anaheim will play the Detroit Red Wings at the Honda Center for the second time in three nights on Sunday.

Looking to build on Wednesday's 4-2 victory over league-best Chicago and extend its winning streak in Anaheim in 14, the Pacific Division-leading Ducks lost 5-1 to Detroit on Friday as Justin Abdelkader recorded his first career hat trick.

Abdelkader has netted five goals in the last three games after scoring once in the first 28.

"I didn't play anywhere during the lockout and I had a slow start," said Abdelkader, who also set up Johan Franzen's score for his first four-point game. "It took a little bit for me to get my legs underneath me and get my hands and everything going good."

The Ducks (22-4-4), meanwhile, are hoping they can bounce back right away after suffering their first home loss since Jan. 25 against Vancouver, and their first regulation defeat since Feb. 25 in Los Angeles.

"I don't know why this game would be a letdown (from the Blackhawks victory)," coach Bruce Boudreau said after his team's 9-0-3 run ended. "I mean, we had a whole 24 hours in-between - and you're playing the Detroit Red Wings, for crying out loud. ... We want to remember this one and we don't want it to happen again."

The Ducks, three points behind Chicago, have dropped back-to-back games just once this season, 5-4 shootout losses at Phoenix on March 2 and 4.

It's uncertain if rookie Viktor Fasth will be back in net after getting chased in the second period on Friday when Abdelkader's second goal put Detroit up 3-1. Fasth, who stopped 26 shots in a 5-2 road win over Detroit on Feb. 15, came into the game with a 6-0-0 home record.

"I didn't think Viktor was really sharp, so I said to myself, 'If they score early in the second period, I was going to take him out and shake things up because it would still give us enough time to bounce back,'" Boudreau said.

Jonas Hiller, who turned aside 10 of 12 shots on Friday, could get his first start against the Red Wings (15-11-5) since making 23 saves in a 4-0 home win last March 14. Hiller had lost his previous five starts in this series.

Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard is now 3-0-1 with a 1.24 goals-against average in his last four starts in Anaheim after Friday's 33-save effort. At 7-2-2 with a 1.61 GAA in his last 11 starts, Howard should be in net again as Detroit goes for its fourth win in five games following a three-game skid.

The Red Wings are also trying to extend their road winning streak to four before finishing their trip against Phoenix and San Jose. Detroit last won four in a row away from home from Nov. 19-Dec. 2, 2011.

Ducks forward Teemu Selanne has scored in back-to-back contests following a nine-game drought, but Anaheim would like to see Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf fare better against the Red Wings. Perry has scored one goal in his last 10 games versus Detroit while Getzlaf has gone 13 games in this series without finding the back of the net.
