KEY GAME INFORMATION
HOUSTON: Everything the Rockets do offensively will continue to go through James Harden, who for all intents and purposes is their point guard. And he's a damn good one, arguably the most complete offensive guard in the league . . . Ty Lawson; like Harden, usually operates with the ball in his hands. The pairing can work, but Lawson might be better off anchoring Houston's hyper aggressive second unit . . . Houston could very well use Patrick Beverley in the starting lineup at times to take some of the defensive heat off Harden. The best guess is that he's close to an even split with Lawson at the point . . . Marcus T. Thornton gives them another aggressive, attacking perimeter player on the second unit. Trevor Ariza didn't shoot it well in his first year with Houston, but he does enough little things to make up for it . . . Terrence Jones will once again look to break through as more than a part-time player, but too often he's exposed as a tweener . . . Corey Brewer is perfect in Houston's scrambling, attacking second unit . . . He was having a solid season before back surgery, and Donatas Motiejunas could end up pushing Jones to the bench . . . K.J. McDaniels never got going in Houston due to a wrist injury, but he's a potentially nice 3-and-D guy . . . Clint Capela showed flashes as a rookie and can play the 4 and 5 . . . Rookies Sam Dekker and Montrezl Harrell are most likely ticketed for the D-League. The regular season will again be more of a warmup for Dwight Howard, who has been too fragile to play full-time minutes before the postseason. Look for him to pick up a handful of DNPs late in the year, and he will play fewer than 35 minutes more often than not. That said, he is still one of the league's few truly dominant big men.
GOLDEN STATE: Stephen Curry actually played a career low in minutes last season, as Kerr managed him to last through the playoffs. Obviously, it didn't keep him from running away with MVP honors . . . Klay Thompson has developed into a very good shooter. He has a quick release that, along with Golden State's ball movement, allows him to get shots off with ease . . . Swiss Army knife reserve Shaun Livingston will continue to see time at both guard spots, though he's more game manager than dynamic offensive threat . . . Veteran sixth man Leandro Barbosa returns to the champs as well, and is capable of the occasional outburst . . . Brandon Rush will play out the final year of his deal. It didn't take long for Kerr to realize what Draymond Green could do for this team on both ends of the floor, which is why the Warriors won a title last year. Not that there was any chance David Lee was going to siphon minutes short of a Mark Jackson hostile takeover of the coaching staff, but Lee's departure guarantees big minutes for Green . . . He had some great moments in the playoffs, but Harrison Barnes is more of a No. 4 option. He'll also play less than typical starter's minutes . . . Andre Iguodala will continue to come off the bench; his strengths are ball movement and defense . . . Rookie Kevon Looney is an active offensive rebounder who will play sparingly one he returns from hip surgery sometime after New Year's Day . . . Gerald Wallace's contract is what they had to take on to unload Lee, but they flipped him into Jason Thompson. Thompson is a solid big offensively, but probably won't see much playing time for this team. Andrew Bogut is an effective rim protector, but he'll continue to sit often when the Warriors go small ball . . . Marreese Speights is in and out of the rotation due to his strong offensive game and atrocious defense. He's essentially the new David Lee . . . Festus Ezeli plays a similar role to Bogut as a defensive presence with no offensive role.
PREVIEW
Rockets-Warriors Preview

Another one of the league's top scorers is coming to town to try to help snap the Golden State Warriors' home win streak.

James Harden has enjoyed some big efforts at Oracle Arena, but he and the Houston Rockets don't have fond memories of their last trip there.

The Warriors look to make it 42 straight in the regular season at home Tuesday night in Harden and the Rockets' first visit since last year's Western Conference finals.

Harden is averaging 27.8 points as one of the players Stephen Curry, averaging 29.8, is trying to hold off for his first scoring crown.

The reigning league MVP just faced a former scoring champ in Kevin Durant in Saturday's 116-108 victory over Oklahoma City. Durant scored 40 while Curry had 26 with 10 assists and was clutch with three baskets and two assists in a closing 12-4 run.

''This was very playoff-like for sure,'' Curry said. ''The atmosphere, just the intensity, the adrenaline down the stretch. That's what you expect for sure. It was good to get that feeling and execute."

Curry got the rare feeling of defeat Sunday, but not on the court. The Carolina Panthers fan was in attendance for their 24-10 loss to Denver in the Super Bowl.

Losing isn't something he has experienced in the regular season at home since a 113-111 overtime defeat to Chicago on Jan. 27, 2015. The 41-game streak is the second-longest in league history to the Bulls' 44-game run in 1995-96.

Harden and the Rockets (27-26) return to the Bay Area for the first time since losing 104-90 on May 27 in Game 5 of the West finals, as Curry scored 26 in the clinching game. Harden made 2 of 11 shots for 14 points with 12 turnovers - his highest amount in any game.

He nearly posted a pair of triple-doubles at Golden State (46-4) in the first two games of that series, averaging 33.0 points on 58.5 percent shooting along with 21 total rebounds and 18 assists.

Houston will be challenged to stay above .500 entering the All-Star break as it begins a two-game trip that includes Wednesday's game against Portland. The Rockets lost for the fourth time in six games and shot a season-low 32.5 percent in Saturday's 96-79 defeat to the Trail Blazers.

"On the road we've got two games, Golden State and Portland, the team that just beat us tonight so we've got to come out focused on both ends," said Harden, who scored 33 with 10 turnovers.

The Rockets will likely be without reserve forward Terrence Jones, who has missed the last two games with a concussion after a car accident Wednesday.

Golden State is 2-0 in the season series, winning the last meeting 114-110 on Dec. 31 behind Klay Thompson's 38 points despite playing without an injured Curry.

The Warriors have won nine straight overall despite shooting 26.9 percent on 3-pointers Saturday for their worst mark at home.

Houston averages a league-high 31.3 3-point attempts and Golden State is second with 30.2. Curry averages an NBA-high 10.7, with Harden (7.9) and Thompson (7.6) also among the league leaders.

The difference is that Golden State leads the NBA at 42.7 percent from long range while Houston is at 35.1.
