KEY GAME INFORMATION
GOLDEN STATE: GUARDS: New head coach Steve Kerr doesn't figure to tweak this system much, so expect STEPHEN CURRY to keep doing his thing. He's added elite playmaking skills to his already outstanding deep shooting . . . The Warriors are reluctant to part with KLAY THOMPSON in part because of his three-point shooting, but mostly because of his defensive value alongside Curry . . . SHAUN LIVINGSTON will back up both guard spots. He's also the only proven point guard on the roster besides Curry . . . BRANDON RUSH will look to revive his career in Oakland. He'll have to prove his knees are healthy enough before he earns a rotation spot . . . It's a make or break year already for NEMANJA NEDOVIC, who was severely overmatched as a rookie. FORWARDS: ANDRE IGUODALA is a defensive specialist and no more than a role player on offense. His main job is to take some of the playmaking duties away from Curry . . . Kerr seems resigned to the fact that he's stuck with DAVID LEE. He has some value on offense, but remains one of the league's worst defensive frontcourt players. Expect him to lose some minutes under Kerr . . . HARRISON BARNES will play a bit of power forward in some small lineups, but mostly he'll play a wing spot. Barnes will have to regain his confidence early if he's going to be an impact sixth man . . . Kerr has hinted at a bigger role for DRAYMOND GREEN, who will play some stretch-4 this year . . . MARREESE SPEIGHTS gives them an offense-only big man off the bench. CENTERS: Kerr has hinted at a bigger offensive role for ANDREW BOGUT. But monitoring the Aussie's minutes may be the bigger goal, to ensure he's actually available for the postseason . . . Back-up center FESTUS EZELI should be ready to return from his knee injury, though he was having shin problems during Summer League.
TORONTO: GUARDS: DeMAR DeROZAN has evolved from raw athlete into dangerous scorer. He gets to the line frequently enough that he's virtually guaranteed a 20-PPG average . . . There's some long-term worry with KYLE LOWRY. His stocky body type leaves little room for error on those contested threes he hits, and there's some question of motivation now that he's been paid. But he was so good last season, that the chances of a fall-off seem low . . . Along with being the primary back-up at point guard, GREIVIS VASQUEZ will play alongside Lowry at times to take ball-handling pressure off of him . . . LOUIS WILLIAMS should be closer to 100 percent in his second season off ACL surgery, though he's looking at a fourth guard role in Toronto. FORWARDS: AMIR JOHNSON will lead the rotation at the 4, providing rim protection, rebounding and hustle baskets . . . He's streaky, but uber dunker TERRENCE ROSS is reinventing himself as a three-point shooter . . . Stretch 4 PATRICK PATTERSON has added a corner three to supplement a below-the-rim game . . . TYLER HANSBROUGH's spastic style is a thing of beauty . . . JAMES JOHNSON returns to Toronto. He's more versatile than his doughy frame would suggest . . . Undersized big CHUCK HAYES will throw his weight around for 15 minutes a night . . . Draft night stunner BRUNO CABOCLO is likely headed for the D-League . . . Ditto DeANDRE DANIELS . . . Not too long ago multiple teams fought over LANDRY FIELDS, but those days are long gone. CENTERS: JONAS VALANCIUNAS still has to add some nuance to his game (such as making physical contact with a defender when he sets a screen) if he's going to get full-time minutes. But the big upside is still there . . . LUCAS NOGUEIRA, a 2013 first-rounder picked up from Atlanta, gives them a rim protector . . . GREG STIEMSMA was added in early September to provide depth at the center position.

*Warriors-Raptors Preview* ==========================

Golden State (44-10) at Toronto (37-20), 7:30 p.m. EDT

Stephen Curry's MVP chances may have been hurt a bit by a poor-shooting effort in a high-profile matchup, but he's always shot well against the Toronto Raptors.

Though his backcourt mate Klay Thompson struggles north of the border, the Raptors know they need to find a way to limit the high-scoring duo - and play better in the fourth quarter - to avoid matching their longest losing streak.

Curry and Thompson combined for 52 points the last time these teams met heading into Friday night's rematch in Toronto.

Golden State (44-11) fell to 1-2 on this six-game trip with Thursday's 110-99 loss at Cleveland. Curry made 5 of 17 shots for 18 points - with only six points after the first quarter - while four-time MVP LeBron James had 42 points and 11 rebounds.

"I hope it's not handed out on this one game," Curry said of the MVP talk. "I hope it's about the body of work. Tonight just wasn't my best game. Shots that I normally make didn't fall tonight."

Curry is averaging 28.6 points on 53.0 percent shooting against Toronto (37-20), his highest marks against any opponent. He had 32 points and 12 assists in a 126-105 home rout of the Raptors on Jan. 2.

Thompson scored 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting in that one, but could have more trouble finding the range Friday. He is averaging 12.0 points in Toronto - his worst in an NBA city - while shooting 36.1 percent.

In contrast, Curry's 28.5 scoring average in Toronto is his best on the road.

"You've got Steph and Klay coming in here, the No. 1 team in the league so the buzz in the arena is going to be around and I think we're just trying to get back to our winning ways," Raptors guard Kyle Lowry said.

Lowry is averaging 14.7 points on 29.8 percent shooting in this slide, which is one game shy of a four-game skid Dec. 30-Jan. 8 for the Raptors' worst.

Toronto has been outscored by 27 and shot 32.3 percent in the fourth quarter of the three defeats, which capped a four-game road swing. Lowry is 2 for 8 for six points in that quarter.

The Raptors' last two opponents have combined to shoot 64.9 percent in the fourth quarters.

"We always could depend on the fourth quarter defensively to get stops, to get on a run and close it out in the fourth quarter," coach Dwane Casey said. "So we've got to look at who's on the floor at that time to put a finger in that dike."

Only one starter - James Johnson - has logged at least nine minutes in the fourth in a game in this losing streak. Four different reserves - Greivis Vasquez, Patrick Patterson, Lou Williams and Terrence Ross - have had a game in which they logged 10.

DeMar DeRozan, who was out injured in the first meeting, is averaging 14.0 points on 34.0 percent shooting in the last three games.

Toronto averages an NBA-high 8.7 pull-up 3-point attempts, but is shooting 26.9 percent from long range in this slide.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr has said he will likely rest center Andrew Bogut and forward Andre Iguodala at some point during this trip. His club is an NBA-best 9-2 in the second half of a back-to-back.
