KEY GAME INFORMATION
PHOENIX: GUARDS: This is GORAN DRAGIC's team, and he'll continue to thrive in head coach Jeff Hornacek's up-tempo system . . . ERIC BLEDSOE's contract extension took longer than planned, but both sides are happy it's done. Durability is a concern, but he's an explosive scorer who can defend, and a fringe All-Star when he's healthy . . . They do have a logjam in the backcourt with ISAIAH THOMAS coming in. Thomas would likely become a high-energy sixth man, a role he's better suited for than a starter . . . GERALD GREEN will see solid minutes considering he can play both wing spots. The question is whether the vastly improved three-point shooting was for real . . . It's a developmental season for 20-year-old rookie TYLER ENNIS . . . ARCHIE GOODWIN will need to polish both his point-guard skills and his shooting. FORWARDS: MARKIEFF MORRIS was a highly effective stretch-4 with the second unit last season, and he could be in for a full-time role now that Channing Frye is gone . . . Retained as a free agent, P.J. TUCKER will continue to be a glue guy in the starting five . . . MARCUS MORRIS has fallen behind his twin brother in the rotation. He's more of a 'tweener who doesn't quite fit in that stretch-4 role . . . Rookie T.J. WARREN fits Hornacek's system and should have his way with opposing bench players. He's a below-the-rim, mid-range shooter with limited upside, but crafty enough to pile up points against second-unit talent. He'll miss the first two weeks of the season with a fractured thumb . . . ANTHONY TOLLIVER gives the Suns some depth at the 4-spot, and he fits the system with his long-range shooting. CENTERS: MILES PLUMLEE is the best option in an underwhelming rotation in the middle. He's an energy guy who does little else . . . He lost his rookie season, and ALEX LEN is still in the developmental stage. His upside is much higher than Plumlee's, and he might get minutes because of his screening and defensive mobility.
DENVER: GUARDS: TY LAWSON is the facilitator in Denver's up-tempo offense. Durability is a concern, as he missed 15-plus games for the third time in five career seasons during the 2013-14 campaign . . . ARRON AFFLALO is what the Nuggets need. He'll be a No. 3 scorer and, more importantly, gives them a big defensive upgrade . . . Denver can't afford to play RANDY FOYE so many minutes. He's a serviceable reserve, but they won't win games if he's playing 30-plus minutes . . . The Afflalo acquisition blocks him, but GARY HARRIS is tough-nosed on defense and a solid deep threat . . . NATE ROBINSON might unseat Foye for the sixth-man role by midseason, but first he'll have to work his way back from a torn ACL . . . Combo guard ERICK GREEN will pick up garbage-time minutes. FORWARDS: KENNETH FARIED is one of the few bright spots in Denver. He can't generate his own offense, but he's effective filling lanes and picking up garbage points in this system . . . If he's ever 100 percent healthy again, DANILO GALLINARI will be the go-to scorer on this team. But he's a question mark after missing all of last season with a torn ACL . . . WILSON CHANDLER won't be relied on as heavily this season, but he's going to get major minutes as a floor spacer who can play the 2-guard or either forward spot . . . Stretch-4 DARRELL ARTHUR is a solid rotation guy when he's shooting well, but he was laying bricks last season . . . QUINCY MILLER has intriguing athleticism, but remains a raw project . . . Even if he wasn't coming off a torn ACL, J.J. HICKSON would not make this rotation. CENTERS: TIMOFEY MOZGOV may have grabbed the lead in this center-by-committee group with his strong finish to last season . . . A stress fracture cost JaVALE McGEE his chance to secure a full-time role last season. The tantalizing, but consistently disappointing, big man should make the rotation, but has an uphill battle to earn minutes . . . JUSUF NURKIC is a high-upside project as a 7-footer with a legit NBA offensive skill set.

*Suns-Nuggets Preview* ======================

By JUSTIN EINHORN STATS Senior Editor

Phoenix (29-28) at Denver (20-36), 9:00 p.m. EDT

Not surprisingly, the Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets have continued to stumble after shipping out key players at the trade deadline.

Both teams are winless since those deals were made, leaving Phoenix at risk of falling to .500 for the first time in two months and Denver hoping to avoid its longest home losing streak in 17 years as they meet Wednesday night.

The Nuggets (20-36) have dropped 16 of 18 to fall out of the playoff picture, and it seems the Suns (29-28) may be doing the same after losing eight of nine. Both are 0-3 since reshaping their rosters hours before Thursday's deadline.

Denver dealt Arron Afflalo to Portland and reserve JaVale McGee to Philadelphia, getting back five unheralded players with two - Thomas Robinson and Victor Claver - getting waived Sunday. At least Phoenix landed high-scoring Milwaukee guard Brandon Knight after a pair of major trades, sending Goran Dragic to Miami and Isaiah Thomas to Boston.

"Chemistry doesn't happen overnight," Knight said after scoring 20 points in his second game with Phoenix, a 115-110 loss to Boston on Tuesday. "It's not two games, three games, four games, sometimes it takes a while."

The Suns have had a winning record every day since reaching 15-14 on Dec. 21 but would be back at .500 on Wednesday if their losing streak reaches six, which would match a season high. They held a two-game lead for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference on Jan. 30 but have since fallen to 10th.

"As bad as it may seem, we're still not out," said guard Eric Bledsoe, who had 21 points and 10 assists Tuesday. "At the end of the day, we still gotta think positive. We got a Denver team that's struggling just like we are, so we're looking forward to going in and try to get a win."

Phoenix has allowed an average of 116.3 points in the last four games, so it may benefit from facing a Nuggets team which has been dreadful offensively since its roster overhaul with an average of 85.7 points on 34.9 percent shooting.

Due greatly to their poor defense, the Suns have trailed by double digits in the first half in seven of eight games this month.

"It's hard to battle back," coach Jeff Hornacek said. "... We're putting so much pressure on the offense to outscore a team. We've got to figure out a way to stop these guys."

As Phoenix looks to halt a seven-game road losing streak, the Nuggets hope to end their skid in the Pepsi Center at seven - a dubious feat for a team seemingly with a great home-court advantage due to Denver's high altitude. The only longer single-season home losing streak in franchise history was an 11-game slide in 1997-98.

The Nuggets are coming off their most lopsided home loss of the season, 110-82 to Brooklyn on Tuesday.

"Throughout the whole season, almost every game, we cannot be consistent," said forward Danilo Gallinari, who had 22 points. "That has been our problem and it was our problem tonight, too."

It's unclear if Wilson Chandler will play after sitting out with a sore groin. Kenneth Faried returned after bruising his thumb in his first game off the bench since December but remains in a funk, averaging 4.0 points on 28.0 percent shooting in the last four games.

These teams split two meetings in November, with each winning at home.
