| | | CHICAGO: GUARDS: There's no medical reason why DERRICK ROSE can't be 100 percent healthy this year. But, as we saw in abbreviated action last season, his confidence may never come back . . . JIMMY BUTLER will still play major minutes this year, though Chicago's added depth on the wing means he's no longer a candidate to lead the league in playing time . . . KIRK HINRICH will return to a straight back-up role. His defense guarantees him minutes at both guard spots in a reserve role . . . TONY SNELL was inconsistent as a rookie, but has the defensive skill set to play solid minutes . . . AARON BROOKS gives the Bulls a more offense-heavy option to lead the second unit. He has his work cut out for him to claim the role D.J. Augustin held last season. FORWARDS: Despite the rough end to his Lakers career, PAU GASOL still has something left in the tank. He will see fewer minutes in a deep Bulls frontcourt, but he's a great fit on the offensive end . . . It seems like only a matter of time before MIKE DUNLEAVY relinquishes his starting spot. The Bulls now have plenty of shooters on this roster . . . TAJ GIBSON will reprise his sixth-man role. He'll be one of the league's top reserves; talent-wise he's a borderline All-Star . . . Rookie DOUG McDERMOTT will supplant Dunleavy once he grasps head coach Tom Thibodeau's defensive concepts. McDermott is an elite shooter who can get by defensively . . . NIKOLA MIROTIC might have some growing pains, but the Euro star can play the 3 or stretch-4 and has a very good offensive game. CENTERS: JOAKIM NOAH is an elite center, as he's outstanding defensively and has developed into one of the best passing big men in the NBA. The Bulls will do what they can to keep him fresh for the postseason, a luxury they have with Gasol and Mirotic adding depth to the frontcourt rotation. NAZR MOHAMMED is back as a big body with the ability to consistently keep the bench warm. | | GOLDEN STATE: GUARDS: New head coach Steve Kerr doesn't figure to tweak this system much, so expect STEPHEN CURRY to keep doing his thing. He's added elite playmaking skills to his already outstanding deep shooting . . . The Warriors are reluctant to part with KLAY THOMPSON in part because of his three-point shooting, but mostly because of his defensive value alongside Curry . . . SHAUN LIVINGSTON will back up both guard spots. He's also the only proven point guard on the roster besides Curry . . . BRANDON RUSH will look to revive his career in Oakland. He'll have to prove his knees are healthy enough before he earns a rotation spot . . . It's a make or break year already for NEMANJA NEDOVIC, who was severely overmatched as a rookie. FORWARDS: ANDRE IGUODALA is a defensive specialist and no more than a role player on offense. His main job is to take some of the playmaking duties away from Curry . . . Kerr seems resigned to the fact that he's stuck with DAVID LEE. He has some value on offense, but remains one of the league's worst defensive frontcourt players. Expect him to lose some minutes under Kerr . . . HARRISON BARNES will play a bit of power forward in some small lineups, but mostly he'll play a wing spot. Barnes will have to regain his confidence early if he's going to be an impact sixth man . . . Kerr has hinted at a bigger role for DRAYMOND GREEN, who will play some stretch-4 this year . . . MARREESE SPEIGHTS gives them an offense-only big man off the bench. CENTERS: Kerr has hinted at a bigger offensive role for ANDREW BOGUT. But monitoring the Aussie's minutes may be the bigger goal, to ensure he's actually available for the postseason . . . Back-up center FESTUS EZELI should be ready to return from his knee injury, though he was having shin problems during Summer League. |

*Bulls-Warriors Preview* ========================
By ALAN FERGUSON STATS Writer
Chicago (29-17) at Golden State (36-6), 10:30 p.m. EDT
Having missed an opportunity to further their momentum last time out, the Chicago Bulls could find it extremely difficult to get back into the win column in the opener of a six-game road trip.
The Bulls have the daunting challenge of trying to end the Golden State Warriors' 19-game home win streak and become the first Eastern Conference team to defeat them this season Tuesday night.
Chicago (29-17) had won back-to-back games after dropping six of eight, beginning with a 104-81 rout of San Antonio on Thursday. The Bulls couldn't keep that streak going Sunday, when they shot just 35.6 percent in a 96-84 loss to Miami and had 12 of their 87 attempts blocked by the Heat's Hassan Whiteside.
"I don't know if there's a straight explanation for it," forward Pau Gasol said. "We're trying to get ourselves going, get in some kind of rhythm but we haven't been able to do it yet."
Mike Dunleavy's 13-game absence due to an ailing right ankle hasn't helped, and Joakim Noah sat out four consecutive contests with his own ankle problems before playing the last two. Dunleavy and Noah are both questionable for Tuesday.
Chicago could use all the help it can get against the league-leading Warriors (36-6), who are currently on pace for 70 wins. The 1995-96 Bulls (72-10) are the only team to reach that mark.
Golden State has collected the majority of its victories at home, where it's 21-1 and has set a franchise mark with its current win streak. The Warriors are also the first team to open 14-0 against the Eastern Conference in a season since the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers won their first 19.
They've taken five in a row overall, with the latest a 114-111 victory against visiting Boston on Sunday. Klay Thompson followed up his career-best 52-point effort from Friday - when he set NBA records with nine 3-pointers and 37 points in a quarter - with a team-leading 31.
The Warriors nearly squandered a 13-point lead in the final 2:24, but Thompson helped keep the Celtics at bay by scoring his team's final seven points. It was just the fourth game during Golden State's run at home decided by single digits and the first since a 114-109 victory over Oklahoma City on Dec. 18.
"Now we've got some things to address in practice," center Andrew Bogut said. "The end-of-game execution wasn't great. We made some bonehead plays the last three or four minutes and let them back into the game."
Golden State is seeking to become the first team to win 20 consecutive home games in a single season since Denver took 23 in a row Jan. 20-April 17, 2013. Memphis had a 22-game streak that began in February and ended Dec. 5.
Thompson had 24 points in Golden State's only other matchup with the Bulls this season, a 112-102 win in Chicago on Dec. 6, and Draymond Green led the way with a career-high 31.
The Warriors have won four of their last five and 12 of the last 15 at home over Chicago, including a 102-87 victory in the most recent visit Feb. 6.
