KEY GAME INFORMATION
ORLANDO: GUARDS: VICTOR OLADIPO, who will miss the first four weeks of season with a facial fracture suffered in a late October practice, will play off the ball more, allowing him to slash from the wing. It's a more natural role for him . . . With Jameer Nelson jettisoned, ELFRID PAYTON will step in as the starter at the point. He has an enormous transition from the Sun Belt Conference, but the quickness and athleticism are there . . . EVAN FOURNIER never found consistency in Denver, but could be a valuable wing shooter on a team that needs it . . . BEN GORDON was signed with a very 'tradeable' contract in mind. The Magic are hoping he shoots well enough to draw some suitors . . . LUKE RIDNOUR is a veteran insurance policy behind Payton . . . WILLIE GREEN can be an effective second-unit player . . . ROY DEVYN MARBLE seems like a D-Leaguer. FORWARDS: The Magic brought in CHANNING FRYE to provide some floor spacing and a veteran presence, both much-needed . . . TOBIAS HARRIS will likely have to play some more small forward. He has the offensive skill set to do it, but defense will continue to be an issue . . . He can play both forward spots, and AARON GORDON should be one of the league's better defensive forwards right off the bat. But for now, his offense is limited to dunking . . . It's a big year for MAURICE HARKLESS, who has yet to establish himself as a rotation-caliber player. With Harris and Gordon capable of playing the 3, Harkless could lose major minutes . . . ANDREW NICHOLSON has a ways to go after a disappointing second season. He's likely on the outside of this rotation. CENTERS: NIKOLA VUCEVIC is a cornerstone player in Orlando because he's big, and he does everything just well enough. He's not a game-changer on either side of the court . . . KYLE O'QUINN has had some good moments in garbage-time games the past two seasons. It's enough to keep him on the roster.
MEMPHIS: GUARDS: So much for head coach David Joerger picking up the tempo. MIKE CONLEY has become a much better half-court player, a requirement on this team . . . COURTNEY LEE will likely be the offensive side of their 2-guard platoon, as he was late last season . . . He lost some minutes late last season, but there's still a part-time role for TONY ALLEN . . . VINCE CARTER will take over Mike Miller's old role, a floor spacer at both wing spots . . . The Grizzlies blocked NICK CALATHES' move back to Europe to keep him around for point guard depth. He is suspended for the first 13 games of the season . . . JORDAN ADAMS comes from UCLA with a strong statistical profile. He might not break into the rotation as a rookie, though . . . BENO UDRIH bought himself another season with strong postseason play. FORWARDS: ZACH RANDOLPH remains the go-to scorer in Memphis. And he's playing for what might be his last big NBA payday . . . TAYSHAUN PRINCE has faded fast, and his expiring contract might be his greatest asset right now . . . QUINCY PONDEXTER returns after missing most of last season with a stress fracture in his foot. He'll have to battle his way back into the rotation after the acquisition of Vince Carter . . . Second-rounder JARNELL STOKES has a football player's build and is quick around the basket, but he could be looking at a season spent mostly in the D-League . . . JON LEUER is still doing Jon Leuer things, shooting well from long range and grabbing occasional rebounds. CENTERS: MARC GASOL will earn a max contract if he keeps playing at this level. Along with very good defense, he's become a valuable facilitator for this team on the offensive end of the court . . . KOSTA KOUFOS is one of the league's better back-up centers. He fits well in the Grizzlies' slow-tempo system.

*Magic-Grizzlies Preview* =========================

By ALAN FERGUSON STATS Writer

Orlando (15-31) at Memphis (31-12), 8:00 p.m. EDT

Jeff Green's second start with Memphis was much better than his first, but he had his best scoring performance for the Grizzlies earlier this month against the Orlando Magic.

Green will try to provide another spark and help the Grizzlies extend their dominance over a Magic team looking to avoid a season high-tying sixth straight loss Monday night.

Green finished with just six points on 2-of-6 shooting while playing over 26 minutes in a 92-86 win against Toronto on Wednesday before scoring a team-high 18 in Sunday's 101-83 victory over Philadelphia.

The Grizzlies (31-12) acquired the high-scoring forward from Boston on Jan. 12 in a three-team deal and are still trying to find the right chemistry with him in the mix.

"You want to try to find something that everybody is comfortable with and where everybody plays to the best of their abilities," guard Mike Conley said. "We're going to experiment and we're going to see what works. ... We'll see as the games go on.

"Hopefully, we will figure it out sooner than later."

Green also led Memphis with 21 points in a 106-96 win at Orlando on Jan. 16 in which he scored 12 in the fourth quarter. Zach Randolph contributed 18 points and 12 rebounds in the Grizzlies' seventh consecutive victory over the Magic (15-32).

Randolph extended his season-best streak of double-doubles to eight with 17 points and 14 rebounds against the 76ers. All of those performances have come since his Jan. 9 return from a knee injury.

He'll now try to help the Grizzlies win their seventh straight home meeting with Orlando and improve to 12-1 against the Magic in Memphis since December 2002. Randolph has posted double-doubles in four of his last five matchups with Orlando.

The Magic, meanwhile, will try to avoid matching their six-game overall skid from Dec. 30-Jan. 10 by winning for just the second time in seven road games.

As they've tried to play a more up-tempo style, the Magic have struggled to slow opponents and have allowed an average of 112.3 points over the last nine games.

Orlando let Indiana pull away with 31 points in the fourth quarter of a 106-99 loss Sunday after scoring 33 in the third to carry a seven-point lead into the final period.

"This is one tonight - hopefully (the team) gets that sense - that you've played well for the majority of the game. You put yourself in position to win ... the focus needs to be there for 48 minutes," coach Jacque Vaughn said.

Nikola Vucevic had 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting and is averaging 29.0 while shooting 61.3 percent in the past three games. He had 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting in the loss to Memphis, while rookie Elfrid Payton had a career-high 22 points.

Payton scored 19 in a 127-99 loss to Oklahoma City on Jan. 18 but has averaged 9.0 points in his last three games.
