KEY GAME INFORMATION
MILWAUKEE: GUARDS: The Bucks hope to fill a gaping hole at point guard with a committee approach. BRANDON KNIGHT, an undersized, athletically-overmatched combo guard, will get first crack at the job . . . Ex-Laker KENDALL MARSHALL, a heady floor general who can't shoot or defend, is an option as well . . . KHRIS MIDDLETON, a spot-up shooter, has a good chance to retain his starting job . . . New head coach Jason Kidd will try to rebuild O.J. MAYO, who could emerge as a serviceable sixth man, but looked wholly disinterested last season . . . The arrival of Marshall likely pushes NATE WOLTERS out of the rotation. He could be ticketed for the D-League at some point this season. FORWARDS: JABARI PARKER becomes the new face of this franchise. He can score as well as facilitate the offense. The only real question is what kind of defensive effort he puts in . . . GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO will be used at both forward spots and both guard spots as well. The Greek Freak is raw, but the Bucks will expand his role . . . After a season in Larry Drew's doghouse, the coaching change should bode well for ERSAN ILYASOVA. He's likely looking at a part-time role . . . JOHN HENSON will play some 4 and 5, though his lack of an offensive game limits his appeal . . . JOHNNY O'BRYANT III might push for a rotation spot once he returns from a knee injury in late November. He's one of the few big men on this team who can score around the basket . . . If DAMIEN INGLIS comes over, he's looking at a D-League stint. CENTERS: Kidd is a LARRY SANDERS believer, so after a season filled with injuries and knucklehead behavior, he'll have every chance to bounce back. When he's in the right place, he's an elite rim protector . . . Larry Drew favorite ZAZA PACHULIA is looking at a traditional back-up role now that Drew is gone.
SAN ANTONIO: GUARDS: TONY PARKER may not be ageless, as he'll sit a handful of games during the regular season. But when the 32-year-old is on the court, he still gets into the lane whenever he wants . . . He can't do anything off the dribble, but DANNY GREEN is one of the league's elite spot-up shooters . . . MANU GINOBILI will need some regular-season maintenance as far as playing time goes, especially coming off a stress fracture in his leg. He's essential for the postseason . . . MARCO BELINELLI will have a significant role off the bench due to his ability to defend, shoot and do some ball-handling . . . It might be a lost regular season for NBA Finals star PATTY MILLS as he works his way back from shoulder surgery. He hopes to make his season debut in mid-January . . . CORY JOSEPH will pick up a few more minutes while Mills is out. FORWARDS: There's plenty of buzz surrounding KAWHI LEONARD after his Finals MVP performance, though it seems unlikely they'll make him the centerpiece of this offense as long as their vets are still going strong . . . Thirty-eight-year-old TIM DUNCAN is still one of the better power forwards in the league. Just like Parker and Ginobili, he'll take the occasional DNP-CD. His rebounding and shot-blocking rates continue to surge. The only real disappointment last season was that his FT shooting slid back towards his sub-70% career mark . . . JEFF AYRES is one of the new anonymous big men at the end of the San Antonio bench. He'll see a handful of starts when Gregg Popovich rests his star players . . . KYLE ANDERSON is too much of a defensive liability to see major minutes as a rookie, but his versatile skill set suggests he could be Boris Diaw's heir apparent . . . MATT BONNER will hoist some threes during the regular season. CENTERS: Popovich rotates his centers depending on the situation. TIAGO SPLITTER, the more traditional 5, will likely take the bulk of the minutes again . . . BORIS DIAW will play when the offense gets stagnant, especially when opponents go small.

*Bucks-Spurs Preview* =====================

By ALAN FERGUSON STATS Writer

Milwaukee (21-21) at San Antonio (28-17), 7:00 p.m. EDT

The start of a lengthy homestand gave the San Antonio Spurs a chance to quickly recover from their most lopsided defeat of the season.

The Spurs will try to keep heading in the right direction while posting their longest win streak over the Milwaukee Bucks in nearly 20 years Sunday night.

San Antonio (28-17) was blown out 104-81 in Chicago on Thursday but beat the Los Angeles Lakers 99-85 the next night in the first of six consecutive home games. Tony Parker scored a team-best 17 points, and Kawhi Leonard provided 15 and 14 rebounds.

"It's easier to focus, to be ready when you were embarrassed," guard Manu Ginobili said. "We played a terrible game (Thursday), so we were willing to be back on the court and sort of redeem ourselves.

"That game, we're not going to get it back but at least the bad feeling starts to fades away. It was a great thing."

The Spurs are 4-1 since Leonard's return from a torn ligament in his right hand. They've also won four in a row at home and nine of 12 overall.

"I feel like the rest of the games in this stretch are important because of our record and how we've been losing some of these games," Leonard said. "We're trying to focus back up and go into the All-Star break in a rhythm."

San Antonio is looking to record its first five-game win streak over Milwaukee (22-21) since a series-best, eight-game run Jan. 24, 1992-Nov. 10, 1995. The Spurs also haven't won five in a row at home against the Bucks since a seven-game streak that ended Dec. 23, 1999.

They swept last season's two matchups by a combined 60 points, including a 110-82 rout in San Antonio on Jan. 19, 2014. The Spurs shot the 54.3 percent in those victories and have topped 50.0 percent in seven of the last nine matchups.

Patty Mills' 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting led seven players in double figures in the home win over Milwaukee, and Tim Duncan's 21 on 9-of-12 shooting paced six players in double digits in a 109-77 road victory Dec. 11, 2013. Duncan has four consecutive double-doubles in the series and 21 in 31 lifetime matchups.

The Bucks avoided a season high-tying third consecutive defeat after beating Detroit 101-86 on Saturday. Their previous two games were decided by a combined five points, but a season-high 33 assists contributed to shooting a season-best 64.7 percent from 3-point range (11 for 17) and made things much easier against the Pistons.

Jerryd Bayless had eight assists, one shy of matching his season high set on Thursday in a loss to Utah, and O.J. Mayo scored a team-best 20 points and went 4 of 5 from beyond the arc.

"You know guys turned down a good shot to get a better shot for a teammate," said coach Jason Kidd, whose team made 41 field goals. "Make or miss, that's what good teams do."

Brandon Knight had 21 points in last season's visit to San Antonio after scoring eight in each of his prior two matchups.

The Bucks had won five consecutive road games - their longest such streak in three seasons - before a 95-87 loss to Chicago on Jan. 10.
