KEY GAME INFORMATION
MIAMI: GUARDS: He's a shell of his former self, but the Heat will have to squeeze more regular-season minutes out of DWYANE WADE. His effectiveness could depend on whether or not he finally develops a three-point shot . . . The point guard situation is getting muddied, but the Heat dug deep to re-sign MARIO CHALMERS. He'll top the PG depth chart again . . . NORRIS COLE is likely too small and too erratic to ever be a starter, but he'll continue to play solid minutes with the second unit . . . The Heat seemed to grab SHABAZZ NAPIER on draft night because he's a LeBron James favorite. Now that James is gone, the rookie could be the odd man out in the point guard rotation. He'll have to overcome subpar measurables. FORWARDS: LUOL DENG is most certainly not LeBron James, and he won't fill anything resembling James' new role. He does give them a strong role player, a defensive stopper and secondary scorer . . . JOSH McROBERTS will facilitate the offense at times and generally serve as a floor-spacing, stretch-4. Miami is built to go small with him and Chris Bosh up front . . . DANNY GRANGER is trying to reinvent himself after an injury-filled couple of seasons. He can play both forward spots and might fit best as a stretch-4 in head coach Erik Spoelstra's system . . . UDONIS HASLEM is essentially a mascot during the regular season . . . JAMES ENNIS could break into the rotation later this season. He was tremendous in Summer League play. CENTERS: CHRIS BOSH is the best player on this team by a significant margin. He'll be the focal point of the offense most nights and should flirt with the 20-10 numbers he used to put up in Toronto . . . CHRIS ANDERSEN will often pair with Bosh in the frontcourt, taking some of the defensive heat off Bosh against bigger lineups.

Because of this important information, no power rating or computer score edges are posted for this game.

CHICAGO: GUARDS: There's no medical reason why DERRICK ROSE can't be 100 percent healthy this year. But, as we saw in abbreviated action last season, his confidence may never come back . . . JIMMY BUTLER will still play major minutes this year, though Chicago's added depth on the wing means he's no longer a candidate to lead the league in playing time . . . KIRK HINRICH will return to a straight back-up role. His defense guarantees him minutes at both guard spots in a reserve role . . . TONY SNELL was inconsistent as a rookie, but has the defensive skill set to play solid minutes . . . AARON BROOKS gives the Bulls a more offense-heavy option to lead the second unit. He has his work cut out for him to claim the role D.J. Augustin held last season. FORWARDS: Despite the rough end to his Lakers career, PAU GASOL still has something left in the tank. He will see fewer minutes in a deep Bulls frontcourt, but he's a great fit on the offensive end . . . It seems like only a matter of time before MIKE DUNLEAVY relinquishes his starting spot. The Bulls now have plenty of shooters on this roster . . . TAJ GIBSON will reprise his sixth-man role. He'll be one of the league's top reserves; talent-wise he's a borderline All-Star . . . Rookie DOUG McDERMOTT will supplant Dunleavy once he grasps head coach Tom Thibodeau's defensive concepts. McDermott is an elite shooter who can get by defensively . . . NIKOLA MIROTIC might have some growing pains, but the Euro star can play the 3 or stretch-4 and has a very good offensive game. CENTERS: JOAKIM NOAH is an elite center, as he's outstanding defensively and has developed into one of the best passing big men in the NBA. The Bulls will do what they can to keep him fresh for the postseason, a luxury they have with Gasol and Mirotic adding depth to the frontcourt rotation. NAZR MOHAMMED is back as a big body with the ability to consistently keep the bench warm.

*Heat-Bulls Preview* ====================

By TAYLOR BECHTOLD STATS Writer

Miami (19-24) at Chicago (29-16), 1:00 p.m. EDT

With a renewed emphasis on defense and rebounding, the Chicago Bulls are looking to continue their recent upswing at home before embarking on a difficult trip.

As they welcome former teammate Luol Deng back to United Center for the first time, the Central Division-leading Bulls seek their third straight win Sunday against a Miami Heat team that is struggling offensively.

Following a stretch of six losses in eight games over 13 days, Chicago coach Tom Thibodeau canceled practice Tuesday in favor of a team meeting to discuss some of the club's issues during its worst slump of the season.

The gathering seemed to have an immediate impact on the Bulls (29-16), who rolled to a 104-81 home win over defending champion San Antonio on Thursday before pulling out a 102-98 victory at Dallas on Friday.

"I feel like we're deep and we play hard," said guard Jimmy Butler, who tied Derrick Rose with a team-high 20 points Friday. "And if we do what we're supposed to do, we can beat anybody."

After allowing an average of 108.8 points on 50.5 percent shooting over their previous five contests, the Bulls tightened things against the Spurs and Mavericks, who combined to shoot 41.1 percent. Chicago also outrebounded those teams 93-69 after owning a minus-7.5 margin over its previous four.

Pau Gasol has totaled 33 boards in the past two games, while Joakim Noah returned from a four-game absence due to a sprained right ankle and had seven rebounds against the Mavs.

Chicago, however, committed a season-high 24 turnovers in Dallas and will try to take better care of the ball against the Heat (19-24) before kicking off a six-game Western trip Tuesday at Golden State.

The Heat's offense has been stagnant of late, averaging 85.5 points over the last six games, and they own a minus-3.2 rebounding margin on the season.

Miami nearly blew a 20-point lead before ending a two-game skid with an 89-87 home win over Indiana on Friday. Deng led the way with 23 points after missing one game due to a nasty illness and Chris Bosh added 19.

"The way this season has went for us, I don't care if we won by 20 or we won by a point or half a point," said Chicago native Dwyane Wade, who had 13 points on 5-of-16 shooting while dealing with a bad headache.

Deng spent his first nine-plus seasons with the Bulls before being traded to Cleveland last season and signing with Miami as a free agent last July. Now the forward is set to play in Chicago for the first time as a visitor.

He had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Wade also scored 17 in a 93-75 home loss to Chicago on Dec. 14. The Heat struggled with Bosh sidelined in that contest, shooting just 35.0 percent and missing 18 of 22 attempts from 3-point range.

Mike Dunleavy led the Bulls with 22 points while hitting 4 of 5 from beyond the arc and Butler added 17 points and seven rebounds. Dunleavy, though, will likely be a game-time decision after missing the past 12 with an ankle injury.

Miami center Hassan Whiteside is also day to day after sitting out the past two games with a sprained ankle.

The Heat have dropped seven of eight regular-season meetings at United Center.
