KEY GAME INFORMATION
MILWAUKEE: GUARDS: The Bucks hope to fill a gaping hole at point guard with a committee approach. BRANDON KNIGHT, an undersized, athletically-overmatched combo guard, will get first crack at the job . . . Ex-Laker KENDALL MARSHALL, a heady floor general who can't shoot or defend, is an option as well . . . KHRIS MIDDLETON, a spot-up shooter, has a good chance to retain his starting job . . . New head coach Jason Kidd will try to rebuild O.J. MAYO, who could emerge as a serviceable sixth man, but looked wholly disinterested last season . . . The arrival of Marshall likely pushes NATE WOLTERS out of the rotation. He could be ticketed for the D-League at some point this season. FORWARDS: JABARI PARKER becomes the new face of this franchise. He can score as well as facilitate the offense. The only real question is what kind of defensive effort he puts in . . . GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO will be used at both forward spots and both guard spots as well. The Greek Freak is raw, but the Bucks will expand his role . . . After a season in Larry Drew's doghouse, the coaching change should bode well for ERSAN ILYASOVA. He's likely looking at a part-time role . . . JOHN HENSON will play some 4 and 5, though his lack of an offensive game limits his appeal . . . JOHNNY O'BRYANT III might push for a rotation spot once he returns from a knee injury in late November. He's one of the few big men on this team who can score around the basket . . . If DAMIEN INGLIS comes over, he's looking at a D-League stint. CENTERS: Kidd is a LARRY SANDERS believer, so after a season filled with injuries and knucklehead behavior, he'll have every chance to bounce back. When he's in the right place, he's an elite rim protector . . . Larry Drew favorite ZAZA PACHULIA is looking at a traditional back-up role now that Drew is gone.
PORTLAND: GUARDS: DAMIAN LILLARD might be the most complete offensive point guard in the NBA. He's a legitimately great shooter, and quick enough off the dribble to get wherever he wants inside the paint . . . WESLEY MATTHEWS runs, runs and runs off the ball as a spot-up shooter . . . STEVE BLAKE is most likely to absorb Mo Williams' old sixth-man role. He can take some ball-handling duties, but at this point his value is as a spot-up shooter . . . He had his rookie season erased by injuries, and it's a crowded rotation, but C.J. McCOLLUM might be able to shoot his way into significant minutes . . . WILL BARTON is a practice player unless he develops a three-point shot . . . ALLEN CRABBE will likely bounce between Portland and the D-League again. FORWARDS: LaMARCUS ALDRIDGE's combination of length and mid-range shooting makes him virtually unguardable when he's on . . . NICOLAS BATUM often runs the offense with Lillard working off the ball. Batum can shoot, too. There's no real weakness in his game . . . He tore a thumb ligament during Summer League play, but THOMAS ROBINSON is already back on the court. He's a hustle guy off the bench, but has a limited offensive game and can't defend bigger 4's . . . DORELL WRIGHT will likely bounce in and out of the rotation again due to his streaky shooting . . . JOEL FREELAND's skill set is limited, but he can play the 4 and the 5 . . . VICTOR CLAVER will try to work his way back into the rotation as a defensive specialist. CENTERS: ROBIN LOPEZ proved a perfect complement to Aldridge, and should handle the bulk of the minutes at center again . . . CHRIS KAMAN gives Portland s a more offensive-minded option off the bench . . . It will be another developmental season for MEYERS LEONARD

*Bucks-Trail Blazers Preview* =============================

By JORDAN GARRETSON STATS Writer

Milwaukee (13-12) at Portland (19-6), 10:00 p.m. EDT

The Portland Trail Blazers have been one of the NBA's most improved defensive teams, but they figure to be tested without their starting center.

The Milwaukee Bucks could also be challenged with their second-leading scorer injured.

Robin Lopez will not play for Portland as it seeks a fourth straight home win Wednesday night over a Bucks team playing its first game since learning of Jabari Parker's season-ending injury.

The Trail Blazers (19-6) had to rely on their fourth-ranked scoring offense in advancing past the first round of the playoffs last season for the first time in 14 years. They struggled defensively, allowing 102.8 points per game to rank 22nd.

While they're averaging 4.4 fewer points this season at 102.3 per game, their defense is vastly improved, limiting opponents to 95.6 points per game - the fifth-fewest in the NBA.

That defense lost a key piece in Monday's 108-95 home win over San Antonio, however, as Lopez fractured the third and fourth metacarpals in his right hand. The 7-footer is averaging 9.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and a team-best 1.5 blocks.

"It's a little frustrating," Lopez said. "I've been pretty fortunate with injuries in my career."

Lopez hasn't missed a game since being acquired in a trade with New Orleans in July 2013. He tweeted Tuesday "It'll be 6 or 7 weeks til I'm on the floor again."

"He does so many things that people don't notice," said LaMarcus Aldridge, who leads the team with 22.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. "He's a hard worker, the guy that does all the things that nobody else really does in the first unit. So it's going to be tough."

Chris Kaman, who is averaging 10.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks, will likely start in Lopez's place. Portland's interior defense will be in for an almost immediate test as Milwaukee has recorded at least 50 points in the paint three times in its last four games.

Parker tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the second half of the Bucks' 96-94 win in Phoenix on Monday. The injury dulled some of the excitement from Khris Middleton's banked-in 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Parker ranks second among rookies with 12.3 points per game and third with 5.5 rebounds. He had been more efficient recently with a 58.9 field-goal percentage over his last seven games after previously shooting 45.3 percent.

Middleton's buzzer-beater brought Milwaukee (13-12) within two wins of last season's total. The Bucks, who are 2-2 on the road against the West after going 1-14 in 2013-14, outscored the Suns 52-41 in the second half.

"It wasn't pretty but the guys kept fighting and we found a way to win. It was a total team effort," said coach Jason Kidd, whose team overcame 21 turnovers. "... There's a lot to improve on but the biggest thing is we found a way to win on the road against a Western Conference team."

The Bucks, who are on the second leg of their four-game trip, held Phoenix to 40.0 percent shooting after letting teams shoot 54.0 percent during a three-game road skid.

Milwaukee has shot 43.3 percent from 3-point range over its last six games, while Portland is holding opponents to a 29.7 percent from beyond the arc at home.
