KEY GAME INFORMATION
ORLANDO: GUARDS: VICTOR OLADIPO, who will miss the first four weeks of season with a facial fracture suffered in a late October practice, will play off the ball more, allowing him to slash from the wing. It's a more natural role for him . . . With Jameer Nelson jettisoned, ELFRID PAYTON will step in as the starter at the point. He has an enormous transition from the Sun Belt Conference, but the quickness and athleticism are there . . . EVAN FOURNIER never found consistency in Denver, but could be a valuable wing shooter on a team that needs it . . . BEN GORDON was signed with a very 'tradeable' contract in mind. The Magic are hoping he shoots well enough to draw some suitors . . . LUKE RIDNOUR is a veteran insurance policy behind Payton . . . WILLIE GREEN can be an effective second-unit player . . . ROY DEVYN MARBLE seems like a D-Leaguer. FORWARDS: The Magic brought in CHANNING FRYE to provide some floor spacing and a veteran presence, both much-needed . . . TOBIAS HARRIS will likely have to play some more small forward. He has the offensive skill set to do it, but defense will continue to be an issue . . . He can play both forward spots, and AARON GORDON should be one of the league's better defensive forwards right off the bat. But for now, his offense is limited to dunking . . . It's a big year for MAURICE HARKLESS, who has yet to establish himself as a rotation-caliber player. With Harris and Gordon capable of playing the 3, Harkless could lose major minutes . . . ANDREW NICHOLSON has a ways to go after a disappointing second season. He's likely on the outside of this rotation. CENTERS: NIKOLA VUCEVIC is a cornerstone player in Orlando because he's big, and he does everything just well enough. He's not a game-changer on either side of the court . . . KYLE O'QUINN has had some good moments in garbage-time games the past two seasons. It's enough to keep him on the roster.
INDIANA: GUARDS: Indy couldn't find an upgrade on GEORGE HILL this offseason, and losing Lance Stephenson and Paul George means Hill will have to play a more traditional ball-handling role this year . . . RODNEY STUCKEY's combo-guard skills probably make him the best fit alongside Hill. Whether he's up to the task defensively will decide whether he's a full-time player or a time-share guy . . . C.J. MILES will help fill the need for perimeter shooting, especially with Paul George out . . . They have a solid veteran back-up in C.J. WATSON. He's the closest thing to a pure point guard on this roster, and is a bigger need for the second unit than the starting five. FORWARDS: PAUL GEORGE was poised for an MVP run, but he'll now miss the season after a compound leg fracture during Team USA practice. He's no guarantee to ever return at full strength . . . DAVID WEST's floor-spacing, mid-range game is key in this system . . . He was a dud in his first season with the Pacers, but Indy might have no choice but to plug LUIS SCOLA into their thin frontcourt rotation . . . DAMJAN RUDEZ is a stretch-4 with three-point range. He could push Scola for a rotation spot . . . The Pacers are hoping SOLOMON HILL is ready to be a second-unit glue guy . . . LAVOY ALLEN brings size and opposable thumbs . . . They seemingly have little use for CHRIS COPELAND after signing Rudez. CENTERS: As strange as it seems, ROY HIBBERT might benefit most from the departure of Lance Stephenson. The big man was referring to Stephenson when he talked about selfish play. Of course, Hibbert's atrocious performance late last season is a problem in and of itself . . . IAN MAHINMI has size and six fouls to give.

*Magic-Pacers Preview* ======================

Orlando (6-11) at Indiana (6-9), 8:00 p.m. EDT

The Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic have been forced to battle through injuries throughout this season.

The Pacers may be getting two key players back - something the Magic did in their last game.

David West could make his season debut for Indiana on Friday night while Roy Hibbert could also be back against an Orlando team starting a six-game trip.

It has been more notable who has been in street clothes than who is actually on the court this season for these clubs. Indiana (6-9) has seen its players miss 76 games while Orlando (6-11) has been without its players for 45.

The Pacers are currently without West (sprained right ankle), George Hill (bruised left knee), C.J. Watson (bruised right foot), Hibbert (sprained left ankle) in addition to forward Paul George (fractured right leg). West may debut since he has been practicing while Hibbert has missed the last two games.

Orlando, which is 3-0 on Fridays, starts this trip in much better shape health-wise since Tobias Harris and Kyle O'Quinn returned Wednesday. Harris was back after missing two games with a strained right calf and had 16 points and 10 rebounds in the club's third straight loss, 111-96 to Golden State.

The Magic fell to 2-2 in which they use their preferred starting five of Harris, Channing Frye, Nikola Vucevic, Evan Fournier and Victor Oladipo.

"We need to learn how to play with each other fast and we need to do it consistently night in and night out," Harris said. "With this road trip, I think that's going to help us. We're going to have to, otherwise it could be a bad road trip."

The Magic also welcomed the return of backup center O'Quinn, who had six points and seven rebounds after missing 15 games with an ankle sprain.

The big man could be useful Friday, particularly if West and Hibbert are on the floor for Indiana. The Pacers lead the Eastern Conference in rebound margin at plus-5.3.

"As a team we've gotta protect the paint, it can't be just me, it can't be just Vuc, it can't be Channing," O'Quinn said. "As a team, we've got to protect the paint a little better. I just want to get out there and hopefully add to it."

The Pacers are starting a back-to-back set for the fifth time, going 0-4 in the first game so far. This is a brief stop home before they start a four-game trip Saturday after splitting games at Dallas and San Antonio this week.

Indiana fought gamely and led by as many as six points in the fourth quarter of Wednesday's 106-100 defeat to the Spurs. Rodney Stuckey made his second straight start and scored a team-high 22 points.

"We have been playing well the last couple of games," forward Luis Scola said. "We did enough to win the game tonight, but they hit jumpers in the third and fourth quarters and they got away with the win."

Indiana took three of four from Orlando last season, including both at home.

Former Indiana Hoosiers star Oladipo, a second-year Magic guard, has totaled 18 points on 6-of-22 shooting and 13 assists in his first two games as a pro in Indianapolis.
