KEY GAME INFORMATION
DETROIT: GUARDS: RODNEY STUCKEY was hampered by nagging injuries a year ago. If he's healthy, he's the best offensive weapon they have . . . BRANDON KNIGHT is more of a combo guard running the point. He can shoot, but doesn't bring much else to the table . . . With Ben Gordon gone, WILL BYNUM has a chance to regain a significant role . . . The Pistons' two second-round picks have a chance to carve out big roles. KIM ENGLISH has a skill set similar to Gordon's, capable of heating up and scoring in bunches . . . KHRIS MIDDLETON is more of a spot-up, catch-and-shoot threat only . . . Former No. 6 overall pick JONNY FLYNN agreed to a non-guaranteed contract in October, as he is no guarantee to even make this sorry roster. FORWARDS: TAYSHAUN PRINCE is still hanging on as the Pistons' best all-around player . . . JASON MAXIELL should be able to reclaim his starting spot early. He rebounds and takes up space . . . JONAS JEREBKO showed flashes but looked rusty in his first year back from an Achilles injury . . . 2011 2nd-rounder KYLE SINGLER has a good chance to step into the rotation after a solid year in Spain . . . COREY MAGGETTE was acquired in a Ben Gordon salary dump. He'll see limited minutes . . . AUSTIN DAYE regressed big-time last year. Unless he gets off to a hot start, he'll be on the outside looking in at the rotation . . . TERRENCE WILLIAMS is seeking a new lease on life, but could be too much of a head case to realize he's wasting his talent . . . The Pistons are counting down the days left on CHARLIE VILLANUEVA's contract (two years). CENTERS: GREG MONROE is a solid fit in Frank's system. He's not a great athlete, but he can score and move the ball on offense, as well as rebound . . . ANDRE DRUMMOND could one day be a perfect fit alongside Monroe. But for now, he'll watch and learn as a raw, boom-or-bust prospect . . . VIACHESLAV KRAVTSOV is an athletic big who will bring energy, but little offense in limited minutes.
LA CLIPPERS: GUARDS: CHRIS PAUL was every bit an MVP-caliber player in his first year in L.A. They should monitor his minutes late in the regular season to keep him fresh for the playoffs. . . His Achilles is on schedule to be healed by December, and CHAUNCEY BILLUPS will start once he's healthy. He's likely to lose athleticism, and his leash could be short if he shoots as poorly as he did last year . . . JAMAL CRAWFORD steps in to lead the second unit. We'll see how quickly his inefficient, shoot-first ways grow stale . . . ERIC BLEDSOE was a stud in the playoffs. He can't play extended minutes alongside Paul, but coach Vinny Del Negro knows he has to get Bledsoe on the floor . . . WILLIE GREEN provides capable depth, but he's on the outside looking in at the rotation. FORWARDS: BLAKE GRIFFIN's knee injury likely isn't serious enough to linger into the season. He's starting to develop some post moves to go along with his dunks . . . CARON BUTLER played hurt for most of last year, but still did enough to nail down a starting job for this season . . . LAMAR ODOM moped his way back to L.A. Don't be surprised if he has a strong bounce-back year, especially considering he'll be the Clippers' best defensive big . . . GRANT HILL could see some starts, but more likely the 40-year-old is pegged for limited minutes . . . MATT BARNES will replace Hill once he injures himself again . . . RONNY TURIAF will provide some of the toughness they lost when Reggie Evans left . . . TREY THOMPKINS will continue to languish on the bench, especially after sitting out the preseason with a knee injury. CENTERS: He can block shots and rebound, but at this point DeANDRE JORDAN is just too much of a defensive liability in space to play 30-plus minutes. That's why the Clippers will often pair Lamar Odom with Blake Griffin in the frontcourt . . . RYAN HOLLINS can also defend the basket and has six fouls to give.

*Pistons-Clippers Preview* ==========================

Detroit (23-41) at Los Angeles (44-20), 9:30 p.m. EDT

The Los Angeles Clippers can usually count on a huge edge in bench points behind Jamal Crawford, who helped key a victory over the Detroit Pistons earlier this season.

The host Clippers are hopeful that Crawford will return from a sore ankle Sunday night when they look to defeat the Pistons for the fourth straight time.

Los Angeles (44-20) is averaging 40.8 points off the bench, among the best in the league, but sorely missed Crawford and his average of 17.2 points that leads all NBA reserves in a 107-92 loss at Denver on Thursday. Crawford injured his left ankle in a 117-101 victory over Milwaukee on Wednesday.

The Clippers opted to rest him and managed a 36-35 edge in bench points Thursday, with backup forward Matt Barnes scoring 19.

"We have plenty of capable guys on this team, so when one guy goes down someone else has to step up," Barnes told the Clippers' official website. "We just ran out of gas tonight."

Crawford and Blake Griffin each scored 15 in an 88-76 victory at Detroit (23-41) on Dec. 17. Barnes added 10 as the Clippers finished with a 37-21 cushion in points from reserves.

The Los Angeles bench has more depth now with former Pistons guard Chauncey Billups back in the starting lineup after missing the first matchup. Willie Green had been starting in his place.

This marks the third meeting at point guard between the Pistons' Brandon Knight and Clippers star Chris Paul. Knight averaged 11.0 points and 26.7 percent shooting in the first two, but he's averaged 20.0 points in five games since missing three with a hyperextended knee.

Detroit is beginning a four-game trip against Western Conference opponents. It's lost 30 of 31 on the road versus the West, including 13 straight.

Brian Hill has filled in as the Pistons' coach for the last two games with Lawrence Frank away from the team due a personal matter. It's unclear when Frank will return.

The Pistons have dropped four straight, falling 102-99 at home to Dallas on Friday. Knight scored 21 and Jason Maxiell and Greg Monroe posted double-doubles.

Rookie Khris Middleton was another bright spot with a season-high 14 points.

"None of us are going to give up no matter how the game is going," Middleton said. "They went on a nice little run with 3s, and we answered right back."

The Clippers have allowed 24 3-pointers over their last two games, with Denver shooting 47.8 percent from beyond the arc Thursday. Los Angeles is among the worst teams in the NBA in that department, allowing teams to shoot 37.2 percent.

"Yeah, our 3-point defense has been terrible and part of it tonight, we know how many points they score in transition and in the paint," Paul said.

The Pistons may not be in position to take advantage, shooting 33.0 percent on 3s during their slide.

Griffin matched a career low with two rebounds against the Nuggets. He's averaging 12.5 in four games against Detroit.

The Clippers have won six straight over East foes.
