*Diamondbacks-Astros Preview* =============================
By ALAN FERGUSON STATS Writer
Arizona (29-38) at Houston (29-37), 8:10 p.m. EDT
Houston Astros' starters have played a significant role in the club's recent success, but Scott Feldman hasn't provided much help.
The right-hander will seek to end his woes while leading the Astros to their 14th win in 19 games Thursday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks
Houston's rotation has a 2.80 ERA during the 13-5 stretch and has given up one run apiece in the past two games against Arizona. The Astros (30-37) couldn't take advantage of that performance Tuesday, falling 4-1 at Chase Field, but rebounded with a 5-1 victory Wednesday in Houston.
Chris Carter provided a pair of homers in his team's fifth win in seven contests. George Springer went 2 for 3 and drove in a run after missing two games with a sore right knee.
"It's nice to have guys like (rookies Springer and Jon Singleton) where you don't feel like you're the only guy in the lineup where you have to do everything or everyone is looking to you to get a home run or something," said Carter, who is batting .199 but has tied Springer for the team lead with 12 homers.
Feldman (3-4, 4.12 ERA) will try to help Houston finish 3-1 in its four games against Arizona (29-39) but will undoubtedly need a better performance than in his past two outings. He lasted just 1 2-3 innings - matching the shortest start in his career - in an 8-0 loss in Minnesota on Saturday.
After a perfect first inning, Feldman gave up three runs, two walks and one hit in the second. In a 9-4 loss to Baltimore on June 1, he was charged with a career-high nine runs and 11 hits in 5 1-3 innings.
"It's stuff I've been through before. It's one of those frustrating times for me, personally," Feldman told the Astros' website. "The team's been playing great, but obviously I dug us a hole today by going short and burned a couple of guys in the 'pen. Hopefully, I can get through this quick and get it on track for the next one."
In his lone matchup with Arizona last season, Feldman allowed two runs and four hits over 5 1-3 innings while striking out eight. The Diamondbacks, though, spoiled his chance at a victory by rallying for a 7-6 win over Baltimore on Aug. 12.
Feldman is 0-1 with a 4.41 ERA in three career starts against the Diamondbacks but 4-0 with a 2.19 ERA in his last six in interleague play.
In this matchup, he'll be opposed by Wade Miley (3-6, 4.57), who has lost three consecutive decisions. The left-hander gave up two runs over seven innings Saturday against Atlanta but nearly took another defeat until the Diamondbacks rallied for a 4-3 win in 11 innings.
Miley yielded a career-high four homers in a 4-3 loss to Cincinnati on June 1 but gave up none on Saturday.
"He threw the ball very well for us," manager Kirk Gibson said. "He kept coming at them. I thought he kept the ball down a lot better."
Miley is 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in two starts against Houston, both in 2012.
Jose Altuve is 3 for 6 with a double in his career against Miley, and he's hoping to return to the lineup after missing his first game of the season Wednesday because of a sore left oblique.
