| ARKANSAS ST: Between QB Fredi Knighten and RB Michael Gordon, the Red Wolves' backfield is loaded with starpower. ASU is going to score points in bunches. The question is whether or not a weak rushing defense, a rebuilt secondary and a shaky kicking game can do enough to push them over the top. The good news is that they won't have to deal with defending league champion Georgia Southern (for a second straight season), meaning their conference title hopes might ride on road games at Appalachian State and South Alabama. | | NEW MEXICO ST: Entering his third season in Las Cruces, Doug Martin is still smack in the middle of a rebuild. The Aggies are capable of moving the ball on the ground, but Martin is still looking to build up the kind of passing game he wants. That includes a quarterback; junior Tyler Rogers threw more interceptions than anyone in the nation last year. But even if the passing game starts to get going, the Aggies will continue to get gashed by opposing running games, a weakness that will consistently be exploited by the top teams in the Sun Belt. The Aggies are still a year or two away from even thinking about a bowl bid. |
