| S ALABAMA: The Jaguars are the biggest wild card in the Sun Belt. Half of their offensive personnel, including QB Cody Clements and RB D.J. Vinson as well offensive coordinator Bryant Vincent, comes from UAB's now-defunct program. They brought in enough instant-impact talent to make a serious run at a conference title if everything clicks on offense. The defensive side of the ball is a whole other matter though. If the defense can bend but not break, and if the Jaguars can stay in contention until Thanksgiving, with Georgia Southern and Appalachian State to finish the regular season, they have a chance to steal the Sun Belt title. | | TROY: Neal Brown's return should create plenty of long-term optimism for Troy. If nothing else, his fast-breaking, pass-happy offense should make things interesting in a league that has leaned spread but run-heavy in recent years. Brown might have the right quarterback in sophomore Brandon Silvers, but the offense lacks the kind of catch-and-run weapons his offense needs. Not to mention, the defense is still a work in progress. The Trojans seem poised to make a move towards the top of the league in the coming years, but they're middle-of-the-pack in 2015. |
