KEY GAME INFORMATION
TEXAS A&M: There's no chance the Aggies will be able to replace Johnny Manziel's playmaking. Either sophomore QB Kenny Hill (16-for-22, 183 yds, 1 TD) or true freshman QB Kyle Allen will run their offense. But it will likely be RB Trey Williams (407 rush yds, 6 TD) becoming the focal point of the offense, especially with Mike Evans also playing on Sundays now. WR Malcome Kennedy (658 rec yards, 7 TD) returns, though sophomore WR Ricky Seals-Jones (3 rec, 84 yds) has the upside to be the new No. 1. The O-Line is excellent, with LT Cedric Ogbuehi capably filling Jake Matthews' shoes. The Aggies allowed an SEC-worst 222.3 rushing YPG, and they'll likely struggle again after dismissing DT Isaiah Golden and LB Darian Claiborne. In the secondary, A&M is short on talent aside from shutdown CB Deshazor Everett (73 tackles).
MISSISSIPPI ST: Dual-threat QB Dak Prescott (1,940 pass yds, 10 TD, 829 rush yds, 13 TD) has the starting job all to himself this year. If he can avoid injuries, he should emerge as one of the SEC's top playmakers. He showed plenty of chemistry with WR Jameon Lewis (923 rec yds, 5 TD), who went for 220 yards in the Bulldogs' Liberty Bowl win over Rice. RB Josh Robinson (459 rush yds, 5.9 YPC) is poised for a breakout year if a rebuilt offensive line holds up in front of him. LB Benardrick McKinney (70 tackles, 3.5 sacks) anchors a strong run defense. MSU's pass rush is lacking, but has the kind of quality cover corners in CBs Taveze Calhoun (3 INT), Jamerson Love (3 INT) and Will Redmond (23 tackles) to hold opposing passing games in check.

By JEFF BARTL STATS Senior Writer

No. 21 Texas A&M (5-0) at Mississippi State (4-0), 12:00 p.m. EDT

Each shining moment for Kenny Hill helps remove him from the shadow cast by his predecessor at Texas A&M. Johnny Manziel may have won a Heisman Trophy, but he never led the Aggies to a 5-0 start the way Hill has this season.

It should come as little surprise then that the leader of one of the nation's highest-scoring offenses is again receiving plenty of attention as sixth-ranked Texas A&M visits No. 12 Mississippi State in an SEC West showdown Saturday.

Hill wasted little time stealing the hearts of A&M fans who were disappointed when Manziel left for the NFL after last season, throwing for a school-record 511 yards and three touchdowns in a season-opening 52-28 win at then-No. 9 South Carolina on Aug. 28.

After blowout victories over Rice and SMU, the sophomore went for 386 yards and four touchdowns last week, including a 25-yarder to Malcome Kennedy on the first play of overtime that gave A&M a 35-28 win over Arkansas and a 2-0 start in SEC play.

The Aggies, who hadn't opened 5-0 since 2001 and seek their first 6-0 start since 1994, rank second in the nation in scoring at 51.2 points per game and are third in the country in total offense, averaging 594.6 yards.

"We can compete with people in the SEC," Hill said. "I mean, we didn't play our best (last Saturday), but we still competed and came out with a win. ... I think that shows us, more than anything, we can come back from a deficit like that and we can still come out with a win."

Mississippi State (4-0, 1-0), one of six SEC West teams ranked in the AP's top 15, should provide another tough challenge. The Bulldogs are coming off a bye week which gave them extra time to prepare for Hill and the Aggies' attack following a 34-29 victory at then-No. 8 LSU on Sept. 20.

Coach Dan Mullen, whose squad ranks third in the conference in offense at 537.5 yards per game, realizes what Mississippi State is in for this week.

"You know you're going to have to score," he said. "If they hit their average, it means we have to score 52. If you hold them just below the average, we'll have to score 50. Offensively, you know you're going to have to score points against them if you're going to beat them."

Mullen sure would like to take some pressure off his offense by having his defensive unit contain Hill, though.

"He can improvise. He can make things happen," Mullen said. "He extends plays with his feet and extends them in the pocket to create throws down the field. He's a very elusive runner on top of that where if you have everybody in coverage he can keep a play alive, and all of the sudden he's running for a first down and moving the chains for them."

The Bulldogs have their own threat under center in Dak Prescott, who is just as dangerous on the ground as he is through the air. The redshirt junior has tossed 11 touchdowns - tied for fourth in the SEC behind Hill's conference-leading 17 - and also has three straight 100-yard rushing games while adding three scores.

Prescott's 378 rushing yards are the most for an SEC quarterback while ranking fifth in the country among those at the position.

"When you have a dual-threat quarterback playing at a high level like Dak is, that's the real issue," A&M coach Kevin Sumlin said. "If you stop the run game and stop the quarterback run game, you can't cut one loose deep (in the passing game). That's how they've been able to score a lot of points."

Prescott rushed for a career-high 154 yards last season against A&M while throwing a pair of TDs, but the Bulldogs' comeback bid fell short in a 51-41 road loss Nov. 9.

Mississippi State lost one week later to top-ranked Alabama, but it has since won seven straight and is thriving with Prescott leading the way.

"In the last football game, to go into LSU and played the way they played, going up and down the field and scoring points, you could argue they are as hot as anybody," Sumlin said. "They'll be rested up and ready to go."

This is the fourth time in the last five years a team coached by Sumlin has faced Mississippi State. He split two meetings as coach of Houston in 2009 and '10 and won both while leading A&M the last two seasons.
