| | | BAYLOR: The Bears lost plenty from last season's team that won a Big 12 title and a school-record 11 games, but superstar QB Bryce Petty (4,200 pass yds, 32 TD, 3 INT) and electric WR Antwan Goodley (1,339 rec yds, 13 TD) are both back. Top rusher Lache Seastrunk is gone, but RB Shock Linwood (881 rush yds, 6.9 YPC, 8 TD) can fly. The defense is very green, but DEs Shawn Oakman (12.5 TFL) and Jamal Palmer (11 TFL) are a fierce tandem. LB Bryce Hager (71 tackles) is solid, but the rest of the back seven has major question marks. | | IOWA ST: New OC Mark Mangino takes over an offense that scored only 24.8 PPG. But QB Grant Rohach (6.3 YPA, 8 TD, 7 INT) has some weapons in TE E.J. Bibbs (462 rec yds) and WRs Quenton Bundrage (676 rec yds, 9 TD) and USF transfer D'Vario Montgomery. RBs Aaron Wimberly (4.0 YPC) and DeVondrick Nealy (3.9 YPC) are mediocre. ISU's defense is lacking in many areas. LB Jared Brackens (61 tackles) and CB Nigel Tribune (6 PD) shine brightest. |

*Baylor-Iowa St. Preview* =========================
By ALAN FERGUSON STATS Writer
No. 6 Baylor (3-0) at Iowa State (1-2), 8:00 p.m. EDT
Even while short-handed, Baylor's high-powered offense was virtually unstoppable in its prelude to the Big 12 season.
Stiffer competition might keep the seventh-ranked Bears from duplicating their recent performances, but they could get some key players back for their conference opener at Iowa State on Saturday night.
Baylor (3-0) had last week off after outscoring opponents 178-27, and that break gave some members of the team more time to heal.
The Bears could get last year's top pass catcher Antwan Goodley (quadriceps) back along with two others receivers - Corey Coleman (hamstring) and Clay Fuller (collarbone) - and running back Devin Chafin (ankle).
Goodley, who had 71 catches for 1,339 yards and 13 touchdowns last season, played in just the first quarter of the season opener, a 45-0 win over SMU on Aug. 31. Coleman and Fuller haven't played after topping 500 yards apiece in 2013, and Chafin has missed the last two games.
"It's huge because those are my guys," quarterback Bryce Petty said. "I've grown up with Antwan, and he's been my guy since day one. I haven't had all of them back together since camp started. It's a big deal for us."
Petty was back on the field for the latest game, a 63-21 win at Buffalo on Sept. 12, after sitting out the previous week with two cracked bones in his lower back. He threw for 416 yards and matched a career high with four touchdowns.
"My back feels good," Petty said. "Everybody told me this was a three-week injury, so there were a lot of answered prayers."
Backup receivers KD Cannon, Jay Lee and Lynx Hawthorne all topped 100 yards, marking the second time that's happened in school history. Cannon has 471 yards and five touchdowns on 14 catches.
Baylor finished the non-conference slate with an FBS-best 59.3 points and 654.3 yards per game.
"We know the competition is going to be tougher as we go along, so we're not putting a whole lot of stock in numbers. We never have. Our biggest thing is to win by one point, regardless of the score," coach Art Briles said.
Baylor won by 64 points against Iowa State in Waco last Oct. 19, its largest margin of victory in a conference game in program history. Petty had 343 yards and two touchdowns to Goodley in that 71-7 win, and the receiver set career marks with 11 receptions and 182 yards.
It was the worst margin of defeat ever for Iowa State (1-2, 0-1), which brings a young secondary into this game. The Cyclones start three underclassmen - freshman free safety Kamari Cotton-Moya, sophomore strong safety T.J. Mutcherson and sophomore cornerback Nigel Tribune - but they have not allowed a passing touchdown.
"When you're facing elite players like this, as well as an elite team, it should bring out the best in you," coach Paul Rhoads said.
Iowa State ranks fifth in the Big 12 with an average of 196.3 passing yards allowed, but its 27.7 points, 417.3 yards and 221.0 rushing yards conceded per game are all near the bottom. The Cyclones wouldn't appear to have enough on offense to keep up with the Bears as they're producing a conference-worst 303.0 yards and 20.7 points per game.
Iowa State had enough to rally for a 20-17 victory at Iowa last Saturday with Cole Netten converting the winning 42-yard field goal in the final seconds. Sam B. Richardson passed for 255 yards and two touchdowns while leading the Cyclones back from an 11-point halftime deficit.
Baylor has won four of the last six matchups but has lost in four of the past five visits to Ames, the latest a 35-21 defeat Oct. 27, 2012.
