KEY GAME INFORMATION
COLORADO: Even with top weapon Paul Richardson heading to the NFL, sophomore QB Sefo Liufau (7.1 YPA, 12 TD, 8 INT) leads what should be an improving offense. RB Michael Adkins II (535 rush yds, 6 TD) should push for a bigger role after a solid freshman year, giving the Buffs speed to combine with big RB Christian Powell (562 rush yds) behind a developing offensive line. Finding receiver depth beyond WR Nelson Spruce (650 rec yds, 4 TD) will be a challenge though. The defense is still looking for answers after allowing 44.2 PPG in Pac-12 games last year. There is some young talent that could step up. LB Addison Gillam (107 tackles) was the team's leading tackler as a true freshman and has the speed and athleticism to make all-conference. DT Samson Kafovalu (3 sacks) is solid in the middle of the line, and their secondary should improve due to the raw athleticism among their corners.
MASSACHUSETTS: After a 1-11 season that included 6.7 PPG away from home, Mark Whipple hopes to turn the program around. He runs a complex offense, but Marshall transfer QB Blake Frohnapfel (8.6 YPA, 5 TD, 2 INT career) is a quick learner, and has Penn State transfer WR Alex Kenney (197 rec yds career) and WR Marken Michel (229 rec yds in '12) back in the program. RB Jamal Wilson (368 rush yds) is the top back. The decent defense, led by stud LB Stanley Andre (111 tackles), will switch to a 3-4 under new DC Tom Masella.
